Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine factors influencing the mental health of high school students in relation to sociodemographic variables, family function, self-esteem, social support, and self-identity. Methods: The survey was carried out on a convenience sample of 332 high school students. Data analysis procedure included stepwise regression using mental health as the dependent variable, and sociodemographics, family function, self-esteem, social support, and self-identity, as independent variables. Results: Stepwise multiple regression revealed that the factors such as self-esteem(${\beta}=0.422$, p<0.001), self-identity(${\beta}=0.166$, p<0.001), and sex(${\beta}=-0.165$, p<0.001) turned out to be significant affecting factors. Twenty seven percent of varience in mental health was explained by these factors(22% of varience by self-esteem). Conclusion: Self-esteem was turned out to be the most important effective factor of mental health in high school students. These results suggest that it is important for high school students to promote their self-esteem to keep their good mental health.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the factors influencing mental health among late elementary age children. Methods: The research design was a secondary data analysis. Data were collected from 746 students in grades 5 or 6, and analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients and stepwise multiple regression with the SPSS/PC 18.0 program. Results: The average score of mental health was $3.42{\pm}0.55$. There were significant differences in mental health according to health status, economic status, scholastic performance, relationships with friends, relationships with the teachers, atmosphere of the home, number of siblings and the source of trouble. Stepwise multiple regression analysis showed influencing factors of stress, negative reaction under stress, self-esteem, teacher support, and friend support support and explained 41.4% of total variance in late elementary age children's mental health. Conclusion: These results may contribute to a better understanding of mental health in late elementary age children. The results of the present study indicate a need to develop nursing interventions to prevent and manage elementary school-age children's negative reaction under stress.

Results: The mean scores of SNS addiction and mental health were $1.34{\pm}0.30$and $2.25{\pm}0.39$. The SNS addiction of the nursing college students was significantly different according to the time of SNS and the reason of internet use. The mental health of the nursing college students significantly differed according to the method of SNS. The SNS addiction and mental health showed the significant negative relationship. The factors influencing mental health were SNS addiction score and method of SNS use. Conclusion: Therefore, it is necessary to offer controlling method of SNS use time a day for nursing college students through regular curriculum.
Purpose: This study investigated the factors influencing mental health among university students based on ecological perspectives. Method: The subjects for this study were 416 students in two colleges in K province. The instruments used for measurement were: Symptom Checklist (Derogatis, 1977), Ego Resilience Scale (Block & Block, 1980), Perceived Stress Inventory (Cohen, Kamarck, & Mermelstein, 1983), and Social Support Scale (Park, 2002). The data was analyzed using the IBM SPSS program. Result: Ego resilience and perceived stress as intrapersonal factors and friends' support as interpersonal factor were the significant predictors of mental health. It was showed that these factors explained 47% of mental health. Conclusion: This study suggests that the factors influencing mental health are both intrapersonal and interpersonal factors. Thus, the findings of this study provide the basic data to develop a program for mental health of university students based on ecological perspectives.
Purpose: This study was to examine the effect of postpartum exercise on mental health. Mental health comprises a 9 symptom dimension of Somatization, Obsessive-Compulsive, Interpersonal Sensitivity, Depression, Anxiety, Hostility, Phobic anxiety, Paranoid Ideation, and Psychoticism. Method: A non-equivalent pre-test, post-test control group study was conducted. Fifty-two puerperal women who were admitted to a postpartum ward of a mother-baby clinic in Pusan were recruited; 26 women were assigned to the experimental group and 26 women to the control group. Postpartum exercise was applied to the experimental group from postpartum day 3 for a period of 8 weeks while no exercise program was applied to the control group. Mental health with SCL-90-R was measured before and after exercise. Data was analyzed using mean, $x^2$-test, t-test, and ANOVA by SPSS 10.0. Result: The mental health status in the exercise group did not show a statistically significant decrease when compared to that of the control group. Conclusion: There is no effect of postpartum exercise on women's mental health during the first 8 weeks of the postpartum period. Further studies are needed for randomized clinical trials with a larger sample size.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the Influences of Alcoholic Use Disorder, Family cohesion and Self-esteem on Mental health among University Students. Methods: Data were collected through questionnaires from 468 students and were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe's test, Pearson's correlation coefficients and Stepwise multiple regression analysis with SPSS/WIN 19.0 program. Results: As defined by alcoholic use disorder, the proportion of dependent group was 3.6%, disorder group was 16.9%, and genral group was 79.5%. The levels of alcoholic use disorder depended on gender and residence type. The levels of mental health depended on gender, family income and academic achievement. The mental health was significantly correlated with family cohesion and self-esteem. The influential factors affecting mental health were self-esteem, academic achievement, gender, which explained about 44.8% of the variance. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that nursing intervention are needed to improve mental health and alcohol use disorder and that such variables should be carefully considered in intervention for university students.
Objectives: This study used secondary data from the 2021 Community Health Survey to identify the impact of dysphagia on mental health-related characteristics among older adults, selecting 73,970 individuals aged 65 years and older. Methods: Frequency analysis, χ2-test, and multiple logistic regression were conducted to identify risk factors affecting mental health-related characteristics among older adults. Results: Dysphagia was most common among individuals with the following demographic characteristics: female, aged 85 years and older, three-generation household and household income in the 1st quintile. Chewing discomfort according to mental health-related characteristics was higher in older adults with cognitive impairment and depression. Sex, age, education level, household income, and chewing discomfort were significant for cognitive impairment, whereas sex, age, household type, education level, household income, and chewing discomfort were significant for depression. Conclusions: The above results confirmed that chewing discomfort contributes to mental health issues such as cognitive impairment and depression. It is therefore necessary to recognize chewing discomfort as an important health problem affecting the mental health of older adults, and to develop a multifaceted dental hygiene approach to target community-dwelling older adults who suffer from chewing discomfort.
This study was conducted to testing the criterion - related validity of a mental health assessment tool which developed based on a korean culture. Criteria scale for this tool were MMPI and CMI(M - R). The study subject were 100 male and female aged 20 or more with quota sampling. The data was collected from August 16. to August 26. 1989. The data obtained from 85 subjects were analysed using S.P.S.S.(Stastistical Package for the Social Science). As a result, there are no significant correlation between Mental Health Assessment Tool and MMPI and CMI except Mf(Masculinity-Feminity) Subscale of MMPI. This result means the MMPI and CMI was not related to tool which developed based on medical model from etic perspectives, although the tool which had been developed in America Modified to Korean situation. So I dare to say that only the absence of mental illness does not means mental health and the diagnosis of mental illness is not the only criteria of a mental health.
