This study aimed at proving the fact that Men also wear SOKGOT similar to women's pants in early Chosun era unlike the general opinion that the men's pants is SAPOK-BAJI. From what SAPOK-BAJI didn't show up in the contemporary remains and the fact that men also wear GAE-DANG-GO (the pants opened low parts). which is one of SOKGOT types in ancient time of China, the assumption above can be guessed. Since the clothes style in Chosun era centered on PO. and the pants were designed not to show out. it can be considered there are any troubles for men to wear the SOKGOT style pants. But through Japanese invasion of Korea in 1592 and Chinese invasion of Korea in 1636. changes happened. Due to reflection and awaking about wide and burdensome clothes. the change seemed to be happened from wide SOKGOT style to narrow SAPOK style. The SOKGOT style pants seemed to settle down for women's only as men's pants become SAPOK-BAJI.
The study was aimed to develop men's working pants patterns through the computerized 3-D virtual clothing simulation system and to verify the effects of the 3-D simulated outfit by comparing it to the images of the actual outfits. The average body measurements of South Korean men aged between 30 and 39 used for the simulation in order to generate a 3-D virtual model and to realize outfits of men's working pants for the workers in the heavy industry in South Korea. And also the preliminary questionnaire survey results on certain aspects of the working pants such as type, detailed design preference and discomforting parts were taken into consideration. Both the simulated and real images of the developed working pants were compared in terms of the ease amount according to parts of the working pants, the position of seam lines, the appearance of darts and pleats, and the effects of the fabric surface according to expertise panels' subjective 5-point scale evaluation. The results throughout the study were (1) the basic working pants item worn by subject workers were the straight one pleated pants. The most discomforting parts of the working pants were in the order of body rise, thigh, hip, waist, pants hems and knee girth. (2) the drafting factors of pants patterns differed by the men's body features, which was related to the allocation of suppression amounts between waist and hip girths into darts and hip curve amounts on the waist line level of the pants. (3) the similarity of the virtually simulated and real images of men's working pants resulted in an average of 4.5 to the ease of appearance, 4.6 to the seam lines, 4.1 to the fabric surface effects in a 5-point scale, which means that the two were highly alike.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the changes of modern Korean men's pants design from 1962 to 1998 by reviewing fashion magazine advertisements and pictorials. For theoretical study, the characteristics and the importance of apparel advertisements and the changes of modern Korean men's fashion trend were reviewed. For sample selection, first, 932 pictorials of men';s wear designs from Joongang Magazine, Shin Dong-A, Bokjangwolbo, Meot, Men's Life, WWD, and SFAA's photograph album, published from 1962 to 1998 were selected and then excluded some samples that could not clearly identify the pants design. Content analysis method was used to analyze the content of magazines and pictorials. The final samples are classified into pattern, color, length, silhouette, and existence or non-existence of turn-up. Frequency and $x^2$-test were conducted using a SAS statistics package to analyse the data. The results were as follows. ; (1) Solid pattern was the most prevailed throughout the last four decades and followed by stripe, check, the others, abstract, dot and floral. There is no significant difference in the type of men's pants pattern between each decade. (2) It showed a significant difference in colors of men's pants between decades. The colors in men's wear are divided into nine categories and the order of occurrence are as follows; multi-color is the most frequently shown and followed by brown, gray, blue, black, green, pink, yellow, and red. More various colors appeared over the period, however, multi color was the most popular in all decades but in the 60s. (3) Full length of pants style occupied more than 96% throughout all four decades. Due to the popularity of sports wear in men's fashion during the 90s, the shorts style appeared not only in sports wear and casual wear but also in suit style. (4) There is a significant difference in silhouette of men's pants between decades. The silhouette of men's pants were divided into four types and their order of occurrence are as follows; basic, baggy, fitted, and loose silhouette. Basic silhouette was the most prevailed throughout the whole four decades. (5) A significant difference was shown in the existence or non-existence of turn-up of men's pants between decades. Non-existence of turn-up of men's pants was the most prevailed throughout the whole four decades.
This investigates the type of pants preferred by Korean men in their 20s through a subjective wear test. Six types of men's pants were developed as experimental garments. The male subjects were university students between the ages of 20 and 24. Subjective wear sensations of the experimental pants were rated using seven Likert scales. A 7-point Likert-type scale was used for the evaluation, with 7 indicating the best fit. As a result, a basic men's sloper for lower body clothing was developed based on SizeKorea 2004 anthropometric measurements surveyed between 2003 and 2004. A basic pattern (A) was manipulated to tight-fit pants (E) and loose-fit pants (D, L, M, and N) by considering the ease at hip level and the style. Among the six pants, pants D and L (4cm ease at hip level) were found to be superior to others in terms of comfort, fitting, and crotch depth. With regard to ease and comfort of the crotch part, pants E and A (0cm ease at hip level) were found to be the least preferred.
Recently, young men have become more muscular, as they have become increasingly more interested in health and their physical appearances. The trend these days is to wear slim suits to accentuate their figures. Men's pants are the one of the most general clothes which men wears. While pants are an ordinary item of clothing, most muscular men have fitting problems with ready-made pants. In view of this, this study aimed at developing a prototype pants pattern for muscular men. In this study, five muscular men were selected for wearing tests. The regression formulas, in which muscular men's body measurements were adopted, were applied to unsuitable body parts, especially the body parts determined inappropriate based on the results of the existing pants pattern wearing tests. After going through the first and second pants pattern wearing tests, the final pants patterns were developed that were suitable for muscular men. The results of the study were as follows: In order to solve the problem of the insufficient of ease due to the development of the hip muscles, the crotch length was made longer, (0.08${\times}$hip circumference+17.648)+1.5cm and front crotch width and back crotch width were made wider, 1.0cm each than those of the existing pants prototype patterns. The ease of 0.5cm was added to the hip circumference/4+2.5cm because of the development of the hip and thigh muscles.
The purpose of this study was to establish a sizing system according to size and dimension whereby manufactured pants can be classified and develop men’s formal pants pattern based on the analysis of ready-made and educational pants pattern. The first, we surveyed the sizing and the basic pants patterns of the men’s ready-made wear companies, Secondly, through the survey data of the domestic men’ready-mad clothing industry, we proposed a new sizing system. Lastly, after compared three different types of ready-mad pants manufactured according to their patterns and an additional type of pants made after the educational pattern, the new men’s basic pants pattern were developed. The findings were as follows: 1. Survey of the domestic ready-mad garment industry showed that each company classified its own manufactured goods according to its own sizing system: moreover, they each used its own unique patterns which appeared to be resulted from a combination of two factors : the experience of a patterner and foreign know-how technology. 2. New sizing system was developed with 12 steps from size 74-88 to size 96-106 based on the high frequencies of the companies’3. New basic patterns for men’s formal pants were developed: Inseam length = 80cm, crotch line = H/4+4.6cm, pants ham = 23.5cm as basic lines and front waist girth =W/4+9.1cm as drafting line. 4. the superiority of the new basic patterns were been demonstrated by a high approval rate of the subjects who participated in testing.
The purpose of this study was to select patterns for slim fit pants, for the following main research, to develop new pants patterns that are suitable and preferable for men in their 20s. We compared and analyzed the patterns of which are currently in the market. We compared 10 different slim pants pattern drafting and analyzed their differences. Then, we examined their appearances and functionalities thru a male model test fitting 10 different samples of the pants. The conclusions of the research results were as follows. We listed the patterns in the following order based on the numbers of items each pattern has, which are statistically considerable for the evaluation to the optimum satisfactory level among the total of 35 testing categories: J > B=I > F=H > A > C=G > D > E. In the functionality test of the pants, we found that it was too tight around the waist and abdomen area with Pattern D, where-as it was too loose around the waist with Pattern C:,-, yet, both of the patterns indicated that it is a good fit in over-all. Therefore, we chose Pattern E, D, C, and G as the existing pants patterns that could be used for further research and for educational purposes to develop a slim pants pattern for men in their 20s.
The purpose of this study was to explore the consumers' purchasing pattern and dissatisfaction with the quality of the jean pants. A total of 695 men and women completed the questionnaire. The questionnaire for the survey measured consumer's jean pants purchasing pattern and dissatisfaction for quality. The results of this study showed that men bought higher priced jeans. Women in their twenties purchased and worn jeans frequently and men and women in age 20s mainly bought jeans at wholesale stores or department stores; but, majority of subjects in their thirties bought jeans at discount stores. Consumer's dissatisfaction with the quality of jean pants was significantly different among the groups by age, gender or their pursuing buying benefit. The men and women in age 30s were dissatisfied with harshness of the denim fabric. The subjects, who highly concerned on the aesthetic value, were dissatisfied with the inconsistence color of the jean pants after washing. Men and women who valued the functional performance of jean pants, were dissatisfied with low sweat absorbancy of jean pants material. The results of this study showed that the consumer's buying pattern for jean pants were differentiated by their age and gender. These results imply that jean pants manufacturers should develop jean pants to meet the needs of their target market. The jean pants, which were manufactured for discount stores, should be made of fabrics with good sweat absorbancy and soft hand. The fashion jean pants, which were targeted for women seeking aesthetic values, should be improved to maintain color consistency of the fabric.
This study examines the wearing conditions of tight-fit pants of men in their 30's in order to develop patterns for tight-fit pants. Tight-fits are loved by the young generation. This fashion has established a notable trend and demand in the casual clothing market as well as in the men's wear market. The study conducted a survey targeting Korean males in their thirties, and a total of 76 samples were used for the final analysis. The study survey showed that a growing number of men wear tight-fit pants in their daily life and prefer brands that feel more casual when it comes to expressing themselves with fashion. The men indicated a desire to look slim; however, they also wanted their clothes to be wearable and not interrupted them while moving. Sales of men's wear targeting the thirties age group have increased every year; consequently, this will study suggests that any relevant fields should first have a good understanding on men in the thirties and their needs before designing any clothes. Discussions that this study developed will be applied as a basic reference to design patterns for functionally-efficient tight-fit pants. Those pants will correspond to the physical characteristics of the thirties who transition with changes in every body part that would not occur when they are in their twenties while not disrupting.
