  • Tunneling barrier engineered charge trap flash (TBE-CTF) memory capacitor were fabricated using the tunneling barrier engineering technique. Variable oxide thickness (VARIOT) barrier and CRESTED barrier consisting of thin $SiO_2$ and $Si_3N_4$ dielectrics layers were used as engineered tunneling barrier. The charge trapping characteristic with different metal gates are also investigated. A larger memory window was achieved from the TBE-CTF memory with high workfunction metal gate.

  • In this paper we have designed and implemented a method of using extended memory and hard disk space as a data buffer for application programs to allow handling of large data files in DOS environment. We use a part of the conventional DOS memory as a buffer cache which allows the application program to use extended memory and hard disks transparently. Using buffer cache also allows some speed improvement for the application program. We have also implemented a number of functions to allow easier handling of pointer operations used by application programs.

  • A Plasma Display Panel with Double Pulse Memory was fabricated and its luminance and luminous efficacy were investigated. Application of non-discharge pulses to an auxiliary anode increased luminance by 43% and luminous efficacy by 33%. Compared to PDP with PPM(Planar Pulse Memory) driving technique, PDP with DPM obtained higher luminous efficacy and consumed lower power with the same delay time.

  • We study parallel processing techniques for the R programming language of high performance computing technology. In this study, we used massively parallel computing system which has 25,408 cpu cores. We conducted a performance evaluation of a distributed memory system using MPI and of a the shared memory system using OpenMP. Our findings are summarized as follows. First, For some particular algorithms, parallel processing is about 150 times faster than serial processing in R. Second, the distributed memory system gets faster as the number of nodes increases while shared memory system is limited in the improvement of performance, due to the limit of the number of cpus in a single system.

  • Murraya koenigii leaves commonly known as 'curry patta' are routinely added to Indian gravy and vegetarian dishes by south Indian as a favourate condiment. The present study was undertaken to investigate the effects of Murraya koenigii leaves (MKL) on memory in rats. Elevated plus-maze and Hebb-Williams maze served as the exteroceptive behavioral models for testing memory. Diazepam-, scopolamine- and ageing-induced amnesia served as the interoceptive behavioral models. MKL fed orally to various groups of young and aged rats with diet containing 2, 4 and 8% w/w of MKL for 30 days consecutively were investigated. The MKL diets produced a significant dose-dependent improvement in memory scores of young and aged rats and significantly reduced the amnesia induced by scopolamine (0.4 mg/kg, i.p.) and diazepam (1 mg/kg, i.p.). Therefore, it would be worthwhile to specifically investigate the therapeutic potential of MKL in the management of dementia patients.

  • Administration of Scopolamine can be considered a psychopharmacological model of Alzheimer's disease (AD). We made an animal model of Alzheimer's disease (AD) by administering Scopolamine to Blab/c mice. In this study, we investigated the effects of Resplex Alpha on memory impairment and cognitive function in mice in a mouse animal model of Scopolamine-induced memory impairment. Through Y-mazed and passive avoidance behavioral assays, we observed that Resplex Alpha recovered Scopolamine-induced short-term memory and cognitive functions. The results of our study imply that Resplex Alpha may be beneficial in the prevention of Alzheimer's disease (AD).

상 변화 메모리 재료 내의 Ga 주입에 미치는 GaGe 스퍼터링 전력의 영향 (Effect of GaGe Sputtering Power on Ga Doping in Phase Change Memory Materials)

  • The phase change memory material is an active element in phase change memory and exhibits reversible phase transition behavior by thermal energy input. The doping of the phase change memory material with Ga leads to the increase of its crystallization temperature and the improvement of its amorphous stability. In this study, we investigated the effect of GaGe sputtering power on the formation of the phase change memory material including Ga. The deposition rate linearly increased to a maximum of 127 nm and the surface roughness remained uniform as the GaGe sputtering power increased in the range from 0 to 75 W. The Ga concentration in the thin film material abruptly increased at the critical sputtering power of 60 W. This influence of GaGe sputtering power was confirmed to result from a combined sputtering-evaporation process of Ga occurring due to the low melting point of Ga ($29.77^{\circ}C$).

  • The memory characteristics of charge trap memory capacitor with high-k materials were investigated. I-V characteristics of the fabricated device with band gap engineered tunneling gate stacks consisted of $SiO_2$, $ZrO_2$, $Al_2O_3$ dielectrics were evaluated and compared with the one consisted of $SiO_2$ tunneling dielectric. The memory capacitor including engineered tunneling dielectrics of ($Al_2O_3/ZrO_2/SiO_2$) shows the fastest PIE speed and long data retention time.

Improvement of Memory by Dieckol and Phlorofucofuroeckol in Ethanol-Treated Mice: Possible Involvement of the Inhibition of Acetylcholinesterase

  • Phlorotannins, the polyphonic compounds found in brown Eisenia and Ecklonia algae, have several pharmacologically beneficial effects such as anti-inflammation. In addition, our recent data show that these compounds may improve the cognitive functions of aged humans suggesting the potential ability to enhance memory in several neurodegenerative disorders. To examine the experimental hypothesis that two effective components of Ecklonia cava, dieckol and phlorofucofuroeckol (PFF), have memory-enhancing abilities, both were administered orally to mice before a passive avoidance test. The repeated administration of either dieckol or PFF dose-dependently reduced the inhibition of latency by the administration of ethanol. To investigate the mode of memory-enhancing actions, the levels of major central neurotransmitters in three different regions (striatum, hippocampus, and frontal cortex) of the mouse brain were measured. The levels of some of the neurotransmitters were significantly changed by ethanol. Both dieckol and PFF altered the levels of some neurotransmitters modified by the ethanol treatment. It is noteworthy that both dieckol and PFF increased the level of acetylcho-line, and they exerted anticholinesterase activities. Overall, the memory-enhancing abilities of dieckol and PFF may result from, at least in part, the increment of the brain level of acetylcho-line by inhibiting acetylcholinesterase.

메모리 반도체 회로 손상의 예방을 위한 패키지 구조 개선에 관한 연구 (Appropriate Package Structure to Improve Reliability of IC Pattern in Memory Devices)

  • The work focuses on the development of a Cu lead-frame with a single-sided adhesive tape for cost reduction and reliability improvement of LOC (lead on chip) package products, which are widely used for the plastic-encapsulation of memory chips. Most of memory chips are assembled by the LOC packaging process where the top surface of the chip is directly attached to the area of the lead-frame with a double-sided adhesive tape. However, since the lower adhesive layer of the double-sided adhesive tape reveals the disparity in the coefficient of thermal expansion from the silicon chip by more than 20 times, it often causes thermal displacement-induced damage of the IC pattern on the active chip surface during the reliability test. So, in order to solve these problems, in the resent work, the double-sided adhesive tape is replaced by a single-sided adhesive tape. The single-sided adhesive tape does net include the lower adhesive layer but instead, uses adhesive materials, which are filled in clear holes of the base film, just for the attachment of the lead-frame to the top surface of the memory chip. Since thermal expansion of the adhesive materials can be accommodated by the base film, memory product packaged using the lead-flame with the single-sided adhesive tape is shown to have much improved reliability. Author allied this invention to the Korea Patent Office for a patent (4-2000-00097-9).
