일개 지역사회 노인의 신체적 기능, 수면의 질, 삶의 질에 관한 연구 (A study on the Relationship among Physical Function, Quality of Sleep and Quality of Life for the Elderly in a Community)

  • 본 연구는 일개 지역사회노인을 대상으로 신체적 기능, 수면의 질, 삶의 질 정도를 파악하고 상관관계를 분석하였다. 연구 대상자는 K광역시에 거주하는 65세 이상 노인 253명이었다. 통계분석은 SPSS WIN 14.0 program을 이용하여 descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, Scheffe test를 실시하였다. 본 연구의 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 신체적 기능은 성별, 연령, 주거형태, 월수입에 따라 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 나타났다. 삶의 질은 동거형태, 월수입에 따라 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 나타났다. 노인의 신체기능이 좋을수록 삶의 질이 높아짐을 알 수 있었으며(r=.303, p=.000) 수면의 질 역시 삶의 질에 영향을 준다는 것(r=-.294, p=.002)을 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 결과에 기초하여 지역사회 노인의 삶의 질을 향상시키기 위해서 노인의 신체적 기능 상태와 수면의 특성을 고려한 간호중재 프로그램이 필요하다는 것을 제언하였다.

Loss of hsp70.1 Decreases Functional Motor Recovery after Spinal Cord Injury in Mice

  • Heat shock proteins (HSPs) are specifically induced by various forms of stress. Hsp70.1, a member of the hsp70 family is known to play an important role in cytoprotection from stressful insults. However, the functional role of Hsp70 in motor function after spinal cord injury (SCI) is still unclear. To study the role of hsp70.1 in motor recovery following SCI, we assessed locomotor function in hsp70.1 knockout (KO) mice and their wild-type (WT) mice via the Basso, Beattie and Bresnahan (BBB) locomotor rating scale, before and after spinal hemisection at T13 level. We also examined lesion size in the spinal cord using Luxol fast blue/cresyl violet staining. One day after injury, KO and WT mice showed no significant difference in the motor function due to complete paralysis following spinal hemisection. However, when it compared to WT mice, KO mice had significantly delayed and decreased functional outcomes from 4 days up to 21 days after SCI. KO mice also showed significantly greater lesion size in the spinal cord than WT mice showed at 21 days after spinal hemisection. These results suggest that Hsp70 has a protective effect against traumatic SCI and the manipulation of the hsp70.1 gene may help improve the recovery of motor function, thereby enhancing neuroprotection after SCI.

Studies on the Function of Peroxidasins in Innate Immune System in C. elegans

  • Peroxidasin is a unique member of peroxidase family in that it has extracellular matrix (ECM) motif as well as peroxidase activity. Peroxidasins are involved in consolidation the extracellular matrix during development and in innate immune defense. C. elegans has two functional peroxidasins, PXN-1 and PXN-2, and PXN-2 is known to contribute to innate immune system. However, it is not clear of PXN-1 function in innate immune system. Therefore, this study is focused on the function of PXN-1 and the relationship between PXN-1 and PXN-2 in innate defense system in C. elegans. When pxn-1 was knocked down by RNAi, the worm turned to be more resistant to pathogens, Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa and the enhanced resistance was abolished in pxn-1pxn-2 double knock down. By contrast, pxn-2 knock down showed stronger susceptibility to the pathogens. These results suggest that pxn-2 can contribute the pathogen resistance and pxn-1 can suppress the pathogen resistance. To confirm the idea, overexpression experiments were performed. Overexpression of pxn-1 showed more susceptible to pathogens compared to the control and double overexpression of pxn-1pxn-2 overcame the susceptibility of pxn-1 overexpression to the pathogens. On the other hand, pxn-2 overexpression made the worm more resistant to the pathogens and the resistance was maintained in pxn-1pxn-2 double overexpression. The comparison of the susceptibilities to the bacterial pathogens in above mentioned constructs suggests that PXN-1 suppress the function of PXN-2 in defense against bacterial pathogens in Caenorhabditis elegans.

The Logic of Japan's Free Trade Agreements (FTA) with ASEAN

  • Among political scientists, Japan's free trade agreements (FTA) with member nations of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has been considered to be a political tool that can compete against China for regional leadership in East Asia. However, this paper demonstrates that Japan's so-called FTA diplomacy towards ASEAN nations serves the broad interests of Japanese actors in both the political and economic sectors. Given the attention to Japanese domestic political issues, it is argued that diplomacy primarily facilitates a need for free trade with ASEAN and ASEAN markets for Japanese corporations to compete in the global economy and for the government to nurture Japan's stagnant economy by assisting these corporations. This work also contends that the unclear function of FTA as an economic good is due to the lack of the government capacity to effectively manage FTA diplomacy. This partly results from the conventional view with regard to Sino-Japanese rivalry.

  • This study tries to suggest a program that the function of a campus can be extended to its community and to be decentralized. This sort of program should be applied to the community without any trouble and be an integration type which the campus members can use actively. To make this possible we observe the activity patterns of the campus members and try to understand the motivation of the activity choice. Finally we deduce the campus activity core. Also, based on understanding the community closed to the campus, we find out what campus can contribute as a community member, not an isolated campus. Through this, the study suggests a program that community and campus devise the growth together as a companion and finally be able to extend its main functions to the community.

  • 본 연구는 RC 휨부재에서 동일한 안전율을 갖으면서 경제성을 확보할 수 있는 휨 철근비를 결정하는 방법에 관한 실용적 연구이다. 재료비 및 인건비를 고려하여 공사비 함수를 구성하였고, 최저공사비를 유도하는 경제적 휨 철근비를 결정하는 식을 제안하였다. 제안식을 통해 단철근보의 최적 철근비는 0.65~1.0%를 추천하였다.

Sizing, geometry and topology optimization of trusses using force method and supervised charged system search

  • In this article, the force method and Charged System Search (CSS) algorithm are used for the analysis and optimal design of truss structures. The CSS algorithm is employed as the optimization tool and the force method is utilized for analysis. In this paper in addition to member's cross sections, redundant forces, geometry and topology variables are considered as the optimization variables. Minimum complementary energy principle is used directly to analyze the structure. In the presented method, redundant forces are calculated by the CSS in order to minimize the energy function. Combination of the CSS and force method leads to an efficient algorithm in comparison to some of the optimization algorithms.

Practical (Second) Preimage Attacks on the TCS_SHA-3 Family of Cryptographic Hash Functions

  • TCS_SHA-3 is a family of four cryptographic hash functions that are covered by a United States patent (US 2009/0262925). The digest sizes are 224, 256, 384 and 512 bits. The hash functions use bijective functions in place of the standard compression functions. In this paper we describe first and second preimage attacks on the full hash functions. The second preimage attack requires negligible time and the first preimage attack requires $O(2^{36})$ time. In addition to these attacks, we also present a negligible time second preimage attack on a strengthened variant of the TCS_SHA-3. All the attacks have negligible memory requirements. To the best of our knowledge, there is no prior cryptanalysis of any member of the TCS_SHA-3 family in the literature.

STELLAR CONTENTS AND GLOBULAR CLUSTER CANDIDATES IN THE SCULPTOR GROUP GALAXY NGC 300

  • We present UBVI CCD photometry of the stellar contents and globular cluster(GC) candidates in the spiral galaxy NGC 300 in the Sculptor group. Color-magnitude diagrams for 18 OB associations having more than 30 member stars are presented. The slope of the initial mass function for the bright stars in NGC 300 is estimated to be ${\Gamma}= -2.6{\pm} 0.3$. Assuming the distance to NGC 300 of (m - M)o = 26.53 $\pm$ 0.07, the mean absolute magnitude of three brightest blue stars is obtained to be < $M_v^{BSG}$ (3) > = -8.95 mag. We have performed search for GCs in NGC 300 and have found 17 GC candidates in this galaxy. Some characteristics of these GC candidates are discussed.

  • 본 연구의 목적은 실시간 자료수집 시스템의 일환으로서 어떤 유역에 존재하는 기존의 강우관측지점으로로부터 유역평균강우량을 산정할 때나 이를 강우-유출 모형의 입력치로 사용할 때 필요한 강우관측지점의 수와 위치를 선정하는 방법을 제시하였다. 유역평균강우량 산정방법은 미국 국립기상청이 제안한 가중치방법을 사용하였다. 강우관측지점 수에 따른 국부적인 최적위치선정은 서로 다른 두가지 방법으로 추적되었다. 유량예측을 위한 강우관측지점의 최적위치와 수를 결정하기 위하여 실제 실무에서 적용하고 있는 강우-유출 모형을 사용하였다.
