  • A steady-state margin comparison study was performed between analog and digital protection systems. The systems compared are the thermal overpower and overtemperature delta T system of Westinghouse, and Core Protection Calculator System of Combustion Engineering, Inc. No dynamic offset was considered to eliminate the margin differences by different safety analysis methodologies. The result shows that the digital protection system has about 30% more rated power margin than the analog system in protecting against the fuel rod centerline melting. The digital protection system is shown to have almost same margin with the analog protection system in preventing the DNB at EOC (End of Cycle) even if the digital protection system has about 10% more margin at BOC(Beginning of Cycle).

  • In this study, 3D visualization of the packing behavior of the charge material in a foundry was attempted. It was simulated based on the practical conditions of the charge material and the melting furnace. It was confirmed whether the 3D visual simulation realistically implements the packing behavior of the manufacturing site. The realistic packing state by the 3D visual simulation was compared with the ideal packing state. It was analyzed in which case the difference between the two packing states occurred. The advantages of applying the 3D visual simulation to the manufacturing process were investigated, and various application plans in the casting industry were proposed.

  • This study is to analyze the contents related to 'state of water', 'state change of water', and 'conditions of state change' in K-12 science textbooks. For this, we analyzed textbooks based on the 5th kindergarten curriculum, the 6th elementary school science curriculum and the 6th middle school science curriculum. Findings show that some of the contents are designed well by topical sequencing or by spiral sequencing. But others have some problems based on topical sequencing and spiral sequencing. Generally, the contents are represented in the order of Perception of phenomena with senses level, Macroscopic understanding level, Understanding of scientific term level, Microscopic understanding level by grade. But the state change contents related to solidification and melting, and conditions of state change contents related to heat, temperature, wind, and humidity are not represented in the level of Microscopic understanding. The contents of state change and conditions related to heat and wind are not represented in the level of scientific term also.

  • First ex-vessel core catcher has been applied to the practical design of NPPs with VVER-1000 reactors built in China (Tyanvan) and India (Kudankulam) for severe accident management (SAM) and mitigation of SA consequences. The paper presents the concept and basic design of this crucible-type core catcher as well as an evaluation of its efficiency. The important role of oxidic sacrificial material is discussed. Insight into the behaviour of the molten pool, which forms in the catcher after core relocation from the reactor vessel, is provided. It is shown that heat loads on the water-cooled vessel walls are kept within acceptable limits and that the necessary margins for departure from nucleate boiling (DNB) and of vessel failure caused by thermo-mechanical stress are satisfactorily provided for.

  • Rene80 superalloy was liquid phase diffusion bonded by using boron(B) as an insert material, where B has high diffusivity and higher melting point as an insert material. Bonding procedure and bonding mechanism of Rene80/B/Rene80 joint were investigated. As results, liquid metal was produced by solid state reaction between base metal and insert material on bonding zone. The liquid metal was produced preferentially at the grain boundary. Except for production of liquid metal, other bonding procedure was nearly same as TLP(Transient Liquid Phase) bonding. Bonding time, however, was reduced compared to prior result of TLP bonding. By bonding S.4ks at l453K, Ren80/B/Rene80 joint was isothermally solidified and homogenized where thickness of insert material was 7.5.mu.m.

  • This paper presents the new detection method for the end of life on fluorescent lamps. At the end of lamp life, the lamp voltage and current asymmetrically increase and decrease more than normal state. If the ballast system does not have the protection function especially for T4 and T5 lamps, we may see the melting socket which is connected to the end of the lamp. To protect from this kind of abnormal status is the most important thing in the ballast system that has very old lamps.

  • We carried out the experiments for fabricating $Bi_{2}Sr_{2}Ca_{2}Cu_{3}O_{x}$(Bi2223) superconductor thick films on Cu tapes. Cu-free (Bi,Pb)-Sr-Ca-0 powder mixtures were screen- printed on Cu tapes and heat-treated at 840-$860^{\circ}C$ for several minutes in air. Surface microstructures and phases of films were analyzed by XRD and optical microscope. The electric properties of superconducting films were examined by the four probe method. At heat-treatment temperature, the printing layers were in a partially molten state by liquid reaction between CuO in the oxidized copper tape and the precursors which were printed on Cu tapes. During the heat-treatment procedure, it is thought that Bi2223 superconducting particles nucleate at interfaces between Bi2212 phase and liquid.

  • In solution and melting state, SiOD prepolymer was prepared by cured excess DDM with epoxy-terminated siloxane oligomers to control phase separation when DGEBA was blended with PDMS. DGEBA/SiOD prepolymer was also cured at $150^{\circ}C$ for 3hrs. Mechanical and thermal properties of the cured prepolymer specimen were investigated. DGEBA/SiOD60 specimen blended SiOD prepolymer had the best flexural strength, modulus and impact strength. To show crack-formation procedure to morphology, DGEBA/DDM neat specimen was flowed homogeneously in direction of crack energy, whereas DGEBA/SiOD$(30{\sim}60)$ specimen showed heterogeneously dispersed particles and scattered domain of crack energy, but DGEBA/SiOT specimen showed homogeneous phase.

  • PCM has the ability to change their state, these materials absorb energy during the heating process as a body contact and release energy during a reverse cooling process as phase change take place. Using the thermal energy storage of PCM which has a melting point 15 to $35^{circ}C$ is one of the most effective ideas for utilization in textile finish. In this study, microencapsulated PCM(MCPCM) were synthesized by sol-gel method using the octadecane(or nonadecane) as PCM and the silica as microcapsule materials. To develop smart temperature adaptable textile, coating process was applied to textile substrate using a composition included MCPCM.
