A nonlinear optical hyperbranched polyester (PE-Azo/Hyper) was synthesized from 4-[N,N-bis(hydroxyethyl)amino-4'-formyl] azobenzene and cyanoacetic acid by a Knoevenagel polycondensation using 4-(dimethylamino) pyridine as a base. The resulting polymer was soluble in polar aprotic solvents such as N,N-dimethylformamide and 1-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone and could be processed into optical quality films by spin coating. The molecular weight was determined to be $M_w$=61,800 ($M_W/M_n{=1.86}$) by gel permeation chromatography using polystyrene as a standard. No melting point was detected by differential scanning Calorimeter, indicating that this polymer presents an amorphous state. It shows a glass transition temperature of $121^{\circ}C$. The second-order nonlinear optical coefficient $d_{33}$ of the poled polymer determined by the second harmonic generation at 1064 nm was 25.4 pm/V.
The role of the water structure present in hydrogels from nutlets of three species of salvias, S. miltiorrhiza (SM), S. sclarea (SS) and S. viridis (SV), was analyzed by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The sharp endothermic peaks that appeared at $5.9^{\circ}C$ (SM), $2.8^{\circ}C$ DC (SS) and $1.8^{\circ}C$ (SV) in each 1.0% hydrogel of 10.4-15.8% were not affected by addition of 0.1 M urea and alkali-metal salts. The order-disorder portions in the network were slightly affected by the distribution of freezable and non-freezable water in the hydrogel networks. The SV hydrogel was further used to investigate the effects of additives (0.1-8.0 M urea and 0.1-5.0 M NaCl) on its melting behavior. At 0.5-4.0 M urea and 1.0-3.0 M NaCl, two endothermic peaks appeared, corresponding to unbound (high temperature) and bound (low temperature) water in the gel networks, and eventually merged into one endothermic peak at 5.0-8.0 M urea and 4.0-4.5 M NaCl. After this merger, the endothermic peak shifted to 3.7, 4.0 and $5.6^{\circ}C$ at 5.0, 6.0 and 8.0 M urea, respectively. In the case of NaCl, a combination of peaks that occurred at 4.0-4.5 M were accompanied by a shift to lower temperature (-14.4 and $15.3^{\circ}C$) and the endothermic peak finally disappeared at 5.0 M NaCl due to the strong binding of water in the gel networks.
This study investigates the effect of fuel pellet eccentricity on fuel rod thermal performance under the steady state condition. The governing equations in the fuel pellet and the cladding region are set up in 2-dimensional cylindrical coordinate (r, $\theta$) and are solved by finite element method. The angular-dependent heat transfer coefficient in the gap region is used in order to account for the asymmetry of gap width. Material propeties are used as a function of temperature and volumetric heat generation as a function of radial position. The results show the increase of maximum local heat flux at the cladding outer surface and the decrease of maximum and average fuel temperatures due to eccentricity. The former is expected to affect the uncertainties in the minimum DNBR calculation. The latter two are expected to reduce the possibility of fuel melting and the fuel stored energy. Also, the fuel pellet eccentricity introduces asymmetry in fuel pellet temperature and movement of the location of maximum fuel pellet temperature.

The spinel $MgO.Al_20_3$ single crystals were grown by FZ (floating zone) method. Its melting point is about, $2135^{\circ}C$ and is important to the process of the growth from the melt. There have been some reports of the growth by Czochralski and Verneuil method. However, this study is the first trial to the spinel crystal with the application of FZ method. In this study, $MgAl_2O_4$ spinel crystals were grown by using FZ method which uses the ellipsoidal mirror furnace having infrared halogen lamps as a heat source. With dopants of transition metal ions, it was possible to melt the feed rod which does not absorb the infrared rays due to the transparent properties to infrared ray of spinel itself and the red, green and blue colored spinel single crystals could be grown more easily. As a conclusion, the purpose of this study is to find the spinel single crystal growth mechanism with respect to th growth interfaces and molten zone stability and to characterize the state of growth resulting from the concavity to the melt of interfaces.
New banana-shaped achiral compounds, 4-chloro-1,3-phenylene bis [4-4(3-fluoro-9-alkenyloxy) phenyl-iminomethylbenzoate]s and 4-chloro-1,3-phenylene bis [4-4-(3-fluoro-10-alkanyloxy) phenyliminomethyl benzoate]s were synthesized by varying the substituent (X=H, F, or Cl); their electrooptical properties are described. The smectic phases, including a switchable chiral smectic C ($SmC^{\ast}$) phase, were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry, polarizing optical microscopy, and triangular method. The presence of vinyl end group at the terminals of linear side wings in the banana-shaped molecules induced a decrease in melting temperature. The smectic phase having the undecenyloxy group such $as-(CH_2)_9CH=CH_2$ showed ferroelectric switching, and its value of spontaneous polarization on reversal of an applied electric field was 2250 $nC/cm^2$, while the value of spontaneous polarization of the smectic phase having the decanyloxy group such as $-(CH2)_9CH_3$ was 3700 $nC/cm^2$. We could obtain the ferroelectric phase with low isotropic temperature by varying the end group at the terminals of linear side wings in the banana-shaped achiral molecules.

The objective of this study is to optimize the Metal Injection Molding(MIM) process with design of experiments(DOE) and numerical analysis. To derive the optimal process condition, experiment or numerical analysis was performed under various process conditions. To analyze the interaction among influential factors contributing to the temperature at flow front and response surface in MIM, both central point and axial point were added to the full factorial design with 2 levels and 5 factors and then their impacts on response variable in 43 experimental conditions were analyzed and the significance was evaluated. As a result, sprue, runner, and gate were completely filled in about 0.247 seconds after injection, the front part of the green body was filled in about 0.3344 seconds, the green body except gate, etc changed to almost solid state in about 3.29 seconds, the Packinging pressure was completed in about 6.29 seconds, and the green body inside and outside and sprue, etc became solid in 13.2 seconds. The impact of individual or reciprocal action of factors on the temperature at flow front was analyzed through regular probability, test statistics, main effect, and interaction effect. As a result, of a total of 31 combinations of factors, 9 unit factors and reciprocal actions were significant, and the screening was also possible. A proper regression equation was drawn with regression analysis and response surface design on the response variable of temperature at flow front, and the applicability could be verified.
The isothermal characteristics of a rectangular parallelepiped sodium heat pipe were investigated for high-temperature applications. The heat pipes was made of stainless steel of which the dimension was $140\;m\;(L)\;{\times}\;95m\;(W)\;{\times}\;46 m\;(H)$ and the thickness of the container was 5 mm. Both inner surfaces of evaporator and condenser were covered with screen meshes to help spread the liquid state working fluid. To provide additional path for the working fluid, a lattice structure covered with screen mesh wick was inserted in the heat pipe. The bottom surface of the heat pipe was heated by an electric heater and the top surface was cooled by circulating coolant. The concern in this study was to enhance the temperature uniformity at the bottom surface of the heat pipe while an uneven heat source up to 900 W was in contact. The temperature distribution over the bottom surface was monitored at more than twenty six locations. It was found that the operating performance of the sodium heat pipe was critically affected by the inner wall temperature of the condenser region where the working fluid may be changed to a solid phase unless the temperature was higher than its melting point. The maximum temperature difference across the bottom surface was observed to be $114^{\circ}C$ for 850 W thermal load and $100^{\circ}C$ coolant inlet temperature. The effects of fill charge ratio, coolant inlet temperature and operating temperature on thermal performance of heat pipe were analyzed and discussed.

The natural convection from an inclined ice flat plate immersed in cold water near its density maximum is studied numerically. Finite difference analysis has been performed for the heat and momentum transfer with respect to various inclined angles and ambient water temperatures. The results of the analysis are presented for ambient water temperatures, 1.0deg. C. leq. T/sub .inf./.leq. 15.0deg. C and the inclined anales from 0deg to 60deg. They include velocity profiles, temperature profiles, melting velocities, and mean Nusselt numbers for entire flow fields, Generally, in the range of 0deg. C .leq.theta. .leq. 60.deg. C, the results show three distinct flow regimes, In the range of 1.0 deg. C .leq. T/sub .inf./ .leq. 4.6 .deg. C, the greatest mean Nuselt number exists about 3.0deg. C. In the range of 5.7deg. C .leq. T/sub .inf./ .leq. 15.0deg. C, mean Nuselt number increases as ambient water temperature increases. Also, the mean Nuselt number decreases as the inclined angle increases. This theoretical results are compared with previous experimental ones and multiple steady state ones.
The innovatory process, that is the direct separation and recovery of the iron and zinc metals contained in the high temperature exhaust gas generated from the electric arc furnace fer the inn scrap melting and/or the dust treatment, has been proposed. This proposed process consists of the moving coke bed filter that is directly connected to the electric furnace, and the following heavy metal condenser. The exhaust gas passes through the filter and the condenser right after exhausting from the electric furnace. The moving coke bed filter is being controlled at about 1000℃ and collects iron and slag components contained in the high temperature exhaust gas. Heavy metals such as zinc and lead pass through the filter as vapor. Based on the thermodynamic considerations, the iron oxide and the zinc oxide are reduced in the filter. The solution loss reaction rate is comparatively low at about 1000℃ in the coke bed filter by the analysis using the mathematical simulation model. The heavy metal condenser is installed in the position after the coke bed filter, and rapidly cools the gas from about 1000℃ to 450℃ by a full of the cooling medium like the solid ceramic ball in addition to the cooling from the wall. The zinc and lead vapor condense and separate f개m the gas in a liquid state. The investigation of the characteristics of the exhaust gas of the commercial electric arc furnace, the fundamental experiments of the laboratory scale and the bench scale ensured the formation of this proposed process. A small-scale pilot plant examination is carrying out at present to confirm the formation of the process. It is certain that the dust generation of the electric arc furnace is extremely decreased, and it can save the energy consumption of usual dust treatment processes by the realization of this process.

Objective : Erysipelas is an acute inflammation caused by pyogenic bacteria. This mainly involves the upper part of dermis. It begins as erythematous patches with tenderness, followed by fever, headache, chills and fatigue etc. It may results in edema, obstruction of lymphatics and sepsis. So this experiment is carried out for test whether the Bojeasodok-um subtracted Scrophulariae Radix, Lasiosphaera seu Calvatia, Isatidis Radix added indigo Naturalis, Lithospermi Radix have an anti-inflammatory effect and have suppression effect on immunocyte in the state of inflammation which induced by Erysipelas. Method : Experimental animals made use of 4-5 week-age(weight 20-25g) ICR(male) mouse. In the breeding farm, the lighting time was controlled from 7:00 am till 7:00 pm, the temperature was controlled So we concluded that BS is prospected as an anti-inflammatory agent to cure inflammation induced bywithin 18-23$23^{\circ}C$ and water and food were not limited. The freezing lyophilization powder which were extracted from Bojesodok-Um divided low dose group(200mg/kg-BSL) and high dose group(500mg/kg-BSH) and after melting in water, it was orally administered to the mouse. Compared with inflammation induced group which were induced by triggering-inflammation reagent Carageenan and Zymosan and normal contrast group, we measured the edema decrement effect, macrophage and spleen cell activation. Result : 1. BS has suppress inflammatory reaction induced by Carageenan. 2. BS has suppress increasing activation of abdominal cavity macrophage in the Carageenan and Zymosan induced inflammation. 3. BS has suppress increasing activation of spleen cell in the Carageenan and Zymosan induced inflammation. Based on the above result, BS was improved its suppression effect to the inflammatory reaction through the suppression of spleen cell and macrophage activation. So we concluded that BS is prospected as an anti-inflammatory agent to cure inflammation induced by Erysipelas.
