Studies on the Geology and Geochemistry in the Beonam Mine, Korea (전북 번암광산의 지질과 지화학적 연구)

  • The Beonam deposits which is located in south-western part of Sobaeksan massif are emplaced along $N20{\sim}30^{\circ}E$ trending fissures in Precambrian Sobaeksan gneiss complex. Surrounding granites are inferred to be differentiated and formed from calc-alkaline magma which was generated from remelting or partial melting of the crustral material having igneous composition. The Sr isotope data of ore minerals showing significantly low initial Sr value relative to those of surrounding granite batholiths suggest that the ore-bearing fluid formed the Beonam Au-Ag mine are isotopically distinct from those of the wall rocks, and it indicates that there is no evidence of genetic relationship between ore-bearing fluids and surrounding granites, although further study should be needed. The results of paragenetic studies suggest three stages of hydrothermal mineralization; stage I: base-metal sulfides stage, stage II: late base-metal sulfides, electrum and silver-bearing sulfosalts stage, stage III: minor silverbearing minerals, barren quartz and carbonates stage. The temperature, salinity and pressure of the Beonam deposits estimated from mineral assemblage, chemical composition, fluid inclusion and sulfur isotope geothermometry are as follows; stage I: $200{\sim}315^{\circ}C$, 3.5~6.5 NaCl eq. wt%, 0.28~0.61 Kbar, stage II: $150{\sim}235^{\circ}C$, 4.5~7.4 NaCl eq. wt%, 0.11~0.15 Kbar. The estimated oxygen and sulfur fugacity during first stage mineralization, based on phase relation of associated minerals, range from $10^{35.1}{\sim}10^{-39.7}$ atm. and $10^{-11.0}{\sim}10^{-13.4}$ atm., respectively. All these evidences suggest that the Beonam deposits are polymetallic meso-epithermal ore deposits.

  • Alumina powder have been expanded its application in industry and required to control its morphology such as powder size and aspect ratio of single particle. It can be synthesized by molten - salt method which is possible to obtain various shapes of ceramic particles by controlling the growth direction because each crystal face has different growth rate. In this study, various combinations of salts such as NaCl, $Na_2SO_4$, $Na_3PO_4$ and their mixture were used for control the growth of plate like alumina particle from the initial stage of synthesis because salt having different ionic strength can control the growth direction of ceramic particle under its melting condition around $800{\sim}900^{\circ}C$, and growth behavior of plate-like alumina particle with different reaction conditions such as temperature and concentration on the crystal size and shape was studied.

Various Cathode Design for Cu Emission Line In See-through Hollow Cathode Glow Discharge (st-HCGD) (관통형 속 빈 음극관 글로우 방전에서 다양한 음극관 디자인에 따른 구리방출선 세기 증가에 대한 연구)

  • We have investigated the intensity of Cu 510.6 nm emission line in see-through hollow cathode glow discharge (st-HCGD) for the development of medical Cu vapor laser. In order to acquire the stable plasma in st-HCGD cell at high current, several factors such as current, the length and the inner diameter of cathode tube, the shape of the tube, and the range of the sputtering range were tested. An optimum condition in our st-HCGD cell was obtained at 600 V, 700 mA, 2.3 Torr of Ar gas (100 SCCM), and 40 mm of tube with 4-11-4 mm type cathode design. Also, it was indirectly observed that temperature in the cell could reach more than $1,000{\circ}C$ since Cu cathode was melt at the current more than 700 mA (melting point of Cu, $1084{\circ}C$).

A Study on Flash Over Delay Effects on Applied Plate-Fire Spread Prevention Method at Sandwich Panels Structure (샌드위치패널 건축물 플래시오버 지연을 위한 화재확산방지플레이트 시공방법 연구)

  • Sandwich panels which are having the both sides are bonded with a heat insulating material with an iron plate are used as factories, warehouse structures as advantages of convenience in construction at economic efficiency of material cost. However, in a panel structure constructed by continuous joining of sandwich panels, a joint portion where a panel and a panel are connected is generated. The joint part is a part which is easily vulnerable to fire because flames easily flow into the melting and deformation of the iron plate during fire. The flames flowing into the panel induce diffusion of fire by rapid burning, causing damage of human life and property. In this research, we developed a flame spread prevention plate to prevent spreading of sandwich panel. This is an improvement of the workability by the anti-spreading construction method of the existing previous research, it can be applied independently to the connecting part where the panel and the panel are coupled, designed to prevent inflow and spreading of flame did. The actual fire test of the test method of KS F ISO 13784-1 of the sandwich panel specimen was conducted and the burning behavior corresponding to the presence or absence of application of the flame spread prevention plate was grasped at the panel connection part and its effect was measured. Inserting a fire spreading plate into the test result panel connecting part is measured by delaying the flashover, prevention of collapse of the specimen, and temperature rise of the opening, effectively improving the fire safety of the panel structure It was confirmed as a method that can be secured. It is judged that panel structure will contribute to ensuring fire safety by applying the fire spread prevention construction method of various methods ensuring the workability and economy of panel connection vulnerable to fire.

Crystal growth and transport current properties of cylindrical (YSmNd)-Ba-Cu-O superconductors by zone melt growth method (존멜팅법을 이용한 원통형 (YSmNd)-Ba-Cu-O계 초전도체의 결정성장 및 수송 전류 특성)

  • $(YSmNd)_{1.8}Ba_{2.4}Cu_{3.4}O_{7-x}$ [(YSN)1.8] high $T_c$ superconductor was directionally grown by zone melt growth process, in air atmosphere. In this study, optimum melting temperature and growth rate were $1100^{\circ}C$ and 3.5 mm/hr, respectively. The microstructure of well-textured (YSN)1.8 samples were examined by XRD, optical microscopy, TEM and SQUID magnetometer. The critical current density of these samples were measured by the direct transporting current method. In the observation using an optical microscopy, nonsuperconducting $(YSmNd)_2BaCuO_5$[(YSN)211] inclusions of (YSN)1.8 superconductor uniformly distributed within the superconducting (YSmNd)$Ba_2Cu_3O_x$[(YSN)123] matrix. The directionally melt-textured (YSN)1.8 superconductor showed an onset $T_c{\geq}90\;K$ and sharp superconducting transition. The transport $J_c$ values were 830 A and $3.93{\times}10^4$ (A/$cm^2$) at 77 K self-field, respectively.

Synthesis of Aliphatic Ester-Carbonate Copolymer (지방족 에스터-카보네이트 공중합체의 합성)

  • An ester-carbonate copolymer was synthesized, in which carbonate was inserted into a biodegradable aliphatic polyester, poly(butylene succinate) (PBS), to modify its mechanical properties. The synthesis was carried out by condensation reactions in two steps. In the first step, oligo(butylene succinate) was prepared by the reaction of succinic acid with 1,4-butanediol (BD). In the second step, it was reacted with oligohexamethylenecarbonate diol (OHMCG) to prepare the ester-carbonate copolymer. Titanium(IV) isopropoxide (TIP) was used as a catalyst for the reaction. The structure of the copolymer was confirmed by FT-IR and $^1H$-NMR and the thermal behavior and mechanical properties were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and universal testing machine (UTM), respectively. It was found that optimum amount of the catalyst for the formation of high molecular weight copolymer was 1wt% for succinic acid. When the BD:OHMCG is in the range 149:1~249:1, the copolymer with high viscosity was obtained. As the OHMCG content was increased, melting temperature ($T_m$) of the copolymer was decreased. When BD:OHMCG is 149:1, the copolymer showed a increase in ultimate strain by two times and the slight decrease in modulus compared to those of PBS.

Rapid Detection Method of Avian Influenza Subtype H5N1 using Quick Real-Time PCR (Quick Real-time PCR을 이용한 Avian Influenza Virus Subtype H5N1의 신속검출법)

  • The most rapid Real-time PCR based detection method for Avian influenza A virus (AIV) subtype H5N1 was developed. The target DNA sequence in this study was deduced from H5N1 subtype-specific 387 bp partial gene of hemagglutinin, and was synthesized by using PCR-based gene synthesis on the ground of safety. Real-Time PCR was performed by $GenSpector^{TM}$ using microchip-based, total $1{\mu}l$ of reaction mixture with extremely short time in each steps in PCR. The detection including PCR-amplication and analysis of melting temperature was totally completed within 13 min. The H5N1-specific 189 bp PCR product was correctly amplified until 2.4 molecules of hemagglutinin gene as minimum of templates. This kind of PCR was designated as Quick Real-Time PCR in this study and it could be applied to detect not only AIV H5N1, but also other pathogens using PCR-based detection.

Blend Films of Poly(acrylic acid-co-maleic acid) with Poly(vinyl alcohol) (I) : Thermo-mechanical Properties and Gas Permeability (폴리(비닐 알코올)과 폴리(아크릴산-말레산) 공중합체의 블렌드 필름 (I) : 열적-기계적 성질 및 가스 투과도)

  • Blends of poly (acrylic acid-co-maleic acid)(PAM) with poly (vinyl alcohol)(PVA) were obtained by solution blending. The blends were solvent-on to a film to examine thermo-mechanical properties and gas permeability. The transition temperatures $(T_g\;and\;T_m)$ of the blends remained constant regardless of PAM contents. However, the values of enthalpy changes corresponding to melting transition $({\Delta}H_m)$ and initial degradation temperature $({T_D}^i)$ were decreased with increasing PAM content. The values of ultimate strength and initial modulus gave the maximum value at the 12 wt% PAM then decreased with further increase of PAM content up to 15 wt%. To measure the gas permeability of the PVA/PAM blend films, the PVA blend solutions were coated onto both biaxially oriented propylene (BOPP) and poly (ethylene terephthalate)(PET) films. The oxygen transmission rate $(O_2\;TR)$ permeability values mono- tonically decreased with increasing PAM content. However, moisture vapor transmission rate was not affected by PAM content.

  • [ $0.6Pb(Sc_{1/2}Ta_{1/2})O_3-0.4PbTiO_3$ ] (hereafter PSTT) ceramics were prepared by the molten salt synthesis (MSS) method using KCI as a flux. Formation of perovskite phase was investigated by a differential thermal analysis (DTA) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis in the temperature range from $600^{\circ}C$ to $850^{\circ}C$. A 92% perovskite phase was synthesized at $750^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs using the MSS method, while 82% perovskite phase was synthesized at $850^{\circ}C$ for 4ks using the calcining of mixed oxide (CMO) method. This result could be due to the improvement in reactivity of $Sc_2O_3$ by melting of KCI. The MSS specimen sintered at $1,100^{\circ}C$ for 4hrs showed a dielectric constant of 11,200, a remnant polarization of $13.5{\mu}C/cm^2$ and a coercive field of 10.198 kV/cm, which was discussed in view of the microstructure.

A Study for Automotive Lamp Manufacturing System Control Composing Ultra melting Process (초음파 접합 공정을 합성한 자동차용 램프 생산시스템 제어에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this paper is to study of the vehicle lamp manufacturing system composing ultrasonic waves connection process. Making lamp assembly plant, it was produced in the separate process as the injection molding, ultrasonic waves bonding, annealing in the constant temperature, lamp assembling and packing. But the improvement method producing the lamp was added with one-step process by one automation technique. As a result, welding with ultrasonic waves process, the method decreased the energy consumption and noise during ultrasonic waves welding. Therefore, this method used the mathematics modeling for checking validity, it selected the stability and suitable controller using transfer function of plant and bode chart. In this study, the $180^{\circ}$ revolution control system to turn injection part upside down was $M_{eq}\;lcos{\theta}(t)$ because of gravity influence. It effected to unstable condition a system. For solving this problem, it aimed the linearization and stabilization of system by elimination $M_{eq}\;lcos{\theta}(t)$ as applying Free-forward control technique.
