Bauhinia rufescens, Ocimum basilicum and Salvadora persica are well known plants used in African traditional medicine, especially in Chadian traditional medicine. They are mostly used in the treatment of infectious diseases, inflammatory diseases, fever, and so on. Studies using various in vitro and in vivo bioassay techniques support the scientific rationale for most of these usages. In this review, ethnobotanical uses, chemistry of natural products, and pharmacological and clinical data for these plants are presented.

Objectives : Through surveying the vegetation of woody plants naturally growing in the Chonnam Area. we expect to make good use of the surveyed data for the conservation and utilization of woody plants in the Chonnam Area. And also we hope that we could make a good opportunity to love and conserve the Chonnam Area through this report. Methods : we inspected native and cultivated medicinal woody plants in the Chonnam Area by report and survey, and researched medicinal part through the herbalogy literature. Results : 1. According to the investigation of medicinal woody plant in the Chonnam area, it bears 189 species, 139 genera and 62 families. 2. Rosaceae and Quercus are the biggest share of medicinal woody plants in the Chonnam area. 3. In aspect of medicinal part, roots of 100 species, leaves of 102 species, fruits of 80 species, and barks of 67 species have been using. The leaves part of the most plants are abundantly used. 4. About 30 species of medicinal woody plants are distributed distinctively in Korea. Conclusions : According to the investigation of medicinal woody plant in the Chonnam area, it bears 189 species, 139 genera and 62 families.
The methanol extract of 12 medicinal plants were evaluated for its antibacterial activity against Gram-positive (5 strains) and Gram-negative bacteria (10 strains) by assay for minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bacterial concentration (MBC). The antibacterial activity was determined by an agar dilution method (according to the guidelines of Clinical and Laboratory Standard Institute). All the compounds (12 extracts) of the 8 medicinal plants (leaf or root) were active against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. Gram-negative showed a more potent action than Gram positive bacteria. The MIC concentrations were various ranged from $0.6\;{\mu}g/ml$ to $5000\;{\mu}g/ml$. The lowest MIC ($0.6\;{\mu}g/ml$) and MBC ($1.22\;{\mu}g/ml$) values were obtained with extract on 4 and 3 of the 15 microorganisms tested, respectively.
In this study, four plants grown naturally in Egypt that are usually consumed by pastoral nomads were screened for their total phenolic contents, antioxidative, and anti-$\alpha$-amylase activities. Dried powder of plant's part was extracted in absolute or 70% ethanol. A polar extract of Panicum turgidum (PTPE) had the highest total polyphenol content {92.5 mg gallic acid equivalents (GAE)/g}, followed by an alkaloid extract of Withania somnifera (WSAlk; 77.5 mg GAE/g), and an ethanol extract of Leptadenia pyrotechnica (LPEE; 59.1 mg GAE/g). By employing different assays such as DPPH radical scavenging, reducing power, $Fe^+$ chelating, $H_2O_2$ scavenging and total antioxidant capacity, it was shown that PTPE, WSEE (ethanol extract of W. somnifera), WSAlk and LPEE had promising antioxidant activity, though, their potency varied according to the different tests. WSAlk had the highest level of $\alpha$-amylase inhibition (40.2%) in vitro, followed by WSEE (30.5%). Therefore, it can be concluded that these plants, especially extracts of PTPE, and WSAlk are beneficial to physiological health, and could be used in food and pharmaceutical industries to prepare dietary supplements, functional foods or food preservatives.
Diversity and community composition of bulb-associated fungi of Fritillaria Cirrhosae Bulbus source plants, which are used in traditional chinese medicine, in the eastern Himalaya-Hengduan Mountains, southwestern China, were estimated based on the internal transcribed spacer rDNA sequence analysis, using host plant species, geographic area, and plant phenology as variables. A total of 1,486 fungal sequences assigned to 251 operational taxonomical units (OTUs) were obtained from the bulbs. Fungal OTUs comprised 96.41% Ascomycotina, 3.52% Basidiomycotina, and 0.07% Zygomycotina. Sordariomycetes, Hypocreales, and Nectriaceae were the most frequent fungal lineages at each taxonomic rank. Fusarium, Ilyonectria, Tetracladium, Leptodontidium, and Tomentella were the top OTU-rich genera. Fusarium sp. 03, Ilyonectria rufa, Fusarium sp. 08, Ilyonectria sp. 03, and Leptodontidium orchidicola 03 represented the most frequent OTUs. Fusarium spp. were the most frequent general taxa. The distribution of fungal community exhibited preferences for host plant species, geographic area, and plant phenology. These findings are the foundation of our research on culturing and active metabolites of bulb-associated fungi of Fritillaria Cirrhosae Bulbus source plants.
Glehnia littoralis Fr. Schmidt et Miquel is an important medicinal plants in East Asian countries. This plant species naturally distributed in Korea, Japan, China, and Taiwan, but it is a rare plants living in the coastal dune in Korea. To investigate the genetic variation, genetic diversity and genetic evolutionary relationships of 14 different geographical G. littoralis, ITS sequence and random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) were analyzed. On the basis of ITS sequences, it was clearly showed that the ITS1 and ITS2 sequences among 14 populations are identical regardless of geographical origin excepting 2 bp in pair-wise comparison of ITS1. Furthermore, RAPD results also showed that 14 different geographical G. littoralis produce various polymorphic patterns without critical relationship among neighboring regions. These combined results suggest that the geographical variation and genetic evolution of G. littoralis is stable and provide important information on genetic diversity, and conservation of this rare plant species in situ and ex situ.
Plants play important roles in human life not only as suppliers of oxygen but also as a fundamental resource to sustain the human race on this earthly plane. Plants also play a major role in our nutrition by converting energy from the sun during photosynthesis. In addition, plants have been used extensively in traditional medicine since time immemorial. Information in the biomedical literature has indicated that many natural herbs have been investigated for their efficacy against lethal irradiation. Pharmacological studies by various groups of investigators have shown that natural herbs possess significant radioprotective activity. In view of the immense medicinal importance of natural product based radioprotective agents, this review aims at compiling all currently available information on radioprotective agents from medicinal plants and herbs, especially the evaluation methods and mechanisms of action. In this review we particularly emphasize on ethnomedicinal uses, botany, phytochemistry, mechanisms of action and toxicology. We also describe modern techniques for evaluating herbal samples as radioprotective agents. The usage of herbal remedies for combating lethal irradiation is a green anti-irradiation approach for the betterment of human beings without high cost, side effects and toxicity.
