  • In this paper, we propose a pill identification model using engraved text feature and image feature such as shape and color, and compare it with an identification model that does not use engraved text feature to verify the possibility of improving identification performance by improving recognition rate of the engraved text. The data consisted of 100 classes and used 10 images per class. The engraved text feature was acquired through Keras OCR based on deep learning and 1D CNN, and the image feature was acquired through 2D CNN. According to the identification results, the accuracy of the text recognition model was 90%. The accuracy of the comparative model and the proposed model was 91.9% and 97.6%. The accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score of the proposed model were better than those of the comparative model in terms of statistical significance. As a result, we confirmed that the expansion of the range of feature improved the performance of the identification model.

  • While we study the book "Somun(素問)", we have to take Wangbing(王冰) Note as reference, which has to be understood by later generation on reading the book Sin-gyojeong(新校正) of Imeok(林億) from Song dynasty. At the final period of Edo in Japan, the famous Han medical expert, Yamada(山田) Gyoukou(業廣) sought a complete new way to compile a book named "Somunchajujipso(素問次注集疏)", a notes and commentaries work combined the original text of "Somun(素問)", Wangbing(王冰) Note and Sin-gyojeong(新校正) by taking the reference of generations medical books and notes both China and Japan. There have been many books to give notes on "Somun(素問)" in many generations, but less of them giving notes to the original text, but to Wangbing Note a little bit at most. In "Somunchajujipso", textual research and notes are given as a special example to the forward, original text and explanation part of "Somun", Song dynasty edition. Especially the detail explanation to the forward part of Imeok(林億), no one has done better than Gyoukou(業廣) until now. It sufficiently shows Gyoukou's(業廣) enriched knowledge accumulated by years hard research in Confucian classics, history and medical books, which enable it a worthy reference statement. The issued of the book "Somunchajujipso(素問次注集疏)" expands a new area for the research of "Somun" and present new research improvement of "Somun" in Japan.

  • Objectives :The Shishimilu is a clinical treatise, published in 1687 by Qing period doctor, Chensiduo. The purpose of this study is to report the newly discovered Korean translation to the academic world and discuss its significance. Methods : The newly discovered Korean translated version was examined in detail focusing on bibliography and content items. In addition, the time of introduction of the Shishimilu to Joseon was studied philologically. Results : 1. The time of completion was during the period of the Korean Empire. 2. The original text was faithfully translated. 3. The book was rearranged from the original document to make it easier to apply in clinical practice. 4. Experiences of Joseon medicine were reflected, mainly prescriptions. 5. According to documentary evidence, the Shishimilu was first introduced to Korea only in the late 19th century, and was widely distributed during the Japanese colonial period. Conclusions : he Korean translated version of the Shishimilu was the earliest among known Korean translations of Chinese medical texts, and while faithfully translating the original text, the compilation was rearranged to make it easier to apply clinically. In addition, the experience of Joseon medicine was reflected mostly in prescriptions. It could be determined that if contents of the Shishimilu appear in Korean literature whose writing period is unknown, it can be historically verified to have been written after the late 19th century.

  • Objectives : The publication of a specialized medical text on a specific disease at a specific time means that the disease which had broken out previously has become a problem throughout society. In this paper, changes in perception of the pediatric infectious diseases Douchuang(痘瘡, smallpox) and Mazhen(麻疹) were examined in the medical texts, the Donguibogam, Jejungsinpyeon, Yaksandang Sinjip Uibang Geumnangjibo, and the Uijongboik. Methods : Entries on Mazhen are brief within the Donguibogam which was published before its pandemic, while in the Jejungsinpyeon, which was published after Joseon had experienced the pandemic, understanding of the disease is rather insufficient. In the text Yaksandang Sinjip Uibang Geumnangjibo, which was published in the early 19th century, there is an abundance of personal accounts on the treatment of Douchuang and Mazhen. In the Uijongboik, various treatment methods of Douchuang and Mazhen could be found. Results & Conclusions : These findings could be interpreted as reflecting a development in medical knowledge of Hongzhen(紅疹) after years of experience dealing with the disease, which had been insufficient in the past as could be found in private medical texts written after the great Hongyi(紅疫, measles) pandemic had already passed. In that time Hongzhen(紅疹) had become one of the most important pediatric diseases, and peoples' perspectives had also changed accordingly.

  • Objectives : We would like to study what is the most appropriate "feature" to effectively perform authorship attribution of the text of Traditional East Asian Medicine Methods : The authorship attribution performance of the Support Vector Machine (SVM) was compared by cross validation, depending on whether the function words or content words, single word or collocations, and IDF weights were applied or not, using 'Variorum of the Nanjing' as an experimental Corpus. Results : When using the combination of 'function words/uni-bigram/TF', the performance was best with accuracy of 0.732, and the combination of 'content words/unigram/TFIDF' showed the lowest accuracy of 0.351. Conclusions : This shows the following facts from the authorship attribution of the text of East Asian traditional medicine. First, function words play an important role in comparison to content words. Second, collocations was relatively important in content words, but single words have more important meanings in function words. Third, unlike general text analysis, IDF weighting resulted in worse performance.

  • A number of therapeutic drugs have been developed from functional chemicals found in plants. Knowledge of plants used for medicinal purposes has historically been transmitted by word of mouth or through literature. The aim of the present study is to provide a systemic platform for the development of lead compounds against breast cancer based on a traditional medical text. To verify our systematic approach, integrating processes consisted of text mining of traditional medical texts, 3-D virtual docking screening, and in vitro and in vivo experimental validations were demonstrated. Our text analysis system identified rutin as a specific phytochemical traditionally used for cancer treatment. 3-D virtual screening predicted that rutin could block EGFR signaling. Thus, we validated significant anti-cancer effects of rutin against breast cancer cells through blockade of EGFR signaling pathway in vitro. We also demonstrated in vivo anti-cancer effects of rutin using the breast cancer recurrence in vivo models. In summary, our innovative approach might be proper for discovering new phytochemical lead compounds designing for blockade of malignant neoplasm including breast cancer.

  • Objectives : The objective of this paper is to review the healing processes employed in the traditional age and discover the unique features found in the Korean Medicine through categorizing and analyzing the distribution of patients, and the aspects and results of treatments as recorded in Gyeongbosinpyeon, a historical text thought to have been authored by a regional doctor active in Joseon during the mid- to late-19th century. Methods : A table is created to view all of the total of 141 medical records introduced in the Gyeongbosinpyeon, and 7 categories were created to each contain 2 to 3 medical records that have special images. The paper provides their translation texts along with the original texts, and analyzed their medical and social significances by comparing each medical record. Results : The clinical competence displayed by the doctor who had worked in Joseon during the 19th century was surprisingly high, and it seems its values are worthy of dissemination when compared with Yeogsimanpil that has been introduced to the world. There is a great significance in how the principle of holistic treatments, the fundamental aspect of Joseon's medical study, was adhered. Additionally, the parts that show the historical text's author's medical activities and their unique characteristics are also worthy of attention. Conclusions : Korean medicine possesses a remarkable text called Donguibogam, but clinical behaviors' successes are not guaranteed solely with textual knowledge. It can be witnessed that such texts of authority and such medical records that have recorded actual activities complement each other in order to improve the quality of Joseon's study of medicine.

  • For the purpose of profound comprehension of the Current education of Oriental medical classics in Korea, I investigated the results of direct survey of the Current education of Oriental medical classics from each professor, and came to following conclusions. 1. The education of Oriental medical classics mainly lasts for 2 years. Students have average 6.59 hours of lecture every week. The rate of full service professor reaches 74.4%. But the department of Oriental medical classics in every college takes charge of many subjects which are related to Oriental medical classics, so the appointment of large number of full service professor is essential for the improvement of educational environment of Oriental medical classics. 2. After the publishing of the common textbook of Oriental medical classics, it gradually became the main textbook. But it is necessary that we should complement the textbook and it is also necessary that we should develop another textbook for Nangyeong(難經). 3. Most professors emphasize on the cultivation of the ability which enables Oriental medical thought through precise comprehension of original text. By the way, for the purpose of motivation of studying Oriental medical classics, it is necessary to develop a lecture which is related to clinical medicine. From the same context it is also necessary to read clinical original text such as Dongui-bogam(東醫寶鑑) and Uihakimmun(醫學入門) in class.

  • For the past several decades, East Asian medicine has been examined in order to uncover its effectiveness in areas where biomedicine is found wanting. Although scientific approaches have been increasingly used to verify the utility of treatment techniques, countless traditional medical techniques found in ancient texts remain to be tested. Currently, about 20,000 or so ancient medical texts are recognized within the East Asian medical tradition. Although some famous texts have been translated and studied, many still exist only as original manuscripts. We are interested in the medical techniques that are listed in those manuscripts. Even before we can ascertain whether such ancient forms of medical treatment can be applied today it is important to understand the full picture of what kind of treatment technology exists. This study aims to develop a database program that automatically converts the original textual description of an East Asian medical technique into a more standardized version. First, our team analyzed the ways that medical skills were described and then designed a database algorithm that recognized the meaningful keywords of the descriptive text for a medical treatment and put it in the right cell in a structured table.
