  • Objectives: Genital herpes is common disease in gynecological field. Although various treatment options such as herbal medicine, acupuncture, moxibustion are used in genital herpes, there is not enough evidence about the treatment options. This study is to prove the efficacy of oriental medicine on genital herpes by investigating papers and suggest direction of future research. Method: We searched for papers which had both genital herpes and oriental medicine from Cochrane, Pubmed, Scopus, CNKI, Oasis, Korean traditional knowledge portal, Journal of Korean Obstetrics & Gynecology up to November 2017. After searching papers, we classified according to the study design and analyzed selected studies. Results: Sixteen papers were finally selected. Four papers are laboratory studies with Hartley guinea pig with recurrent genital herpes. Twelve papers are clinical trials which includes one single group trial, one controlled trial, ten randomized controlled trials. All of the studies have shown that herbal medicine is effective in improving the symptom of genital herpes and decreasing the recurrent rate of genital herpes and also has immunoregulatory effect. Conclusions: This study shows that herbal medicine could be a good treatment option for genital herpes. However, more well-designed clinical studies and laboratory studies will be needed.

  • A workstation for archiving and communication of medical records is developed for clinical use in hospital. In this system, handwritten diagnostic reports, medical recording papers such as ECG and EEG etc., and ultrasound images are stored in optical disks instead of papers. This system improves medical service owing to speedy diagnosis by fast finding the patient's medical chart, and curtails the cost of archiving medical charts economically. If this system can be combined with already developed MPACS, then integrated medical image di- agnosis will be possible.

  • We analyzed the research type and statistical methods in Korean Journal of Oriental Physiology and Pathology for describing the trends of Oriental medicine research. The data for the analysis of trends in Oriental medicine research was taken from a total 808 articles published in Korean Journal of Oriental Physiology and Pathology from 2004 to 2006. We surveyed the number of authors, the institutes involved in each study, and used languages in each study. Also we seperated by epidemiological study design, the studies into categories and statistical methods into 13 categories. Results showed that descriptive statistics was used in 125(14.4%) papers. Also t-test, analysis of variance, multiple comparison, chi-square test, and non-parametric test were used in 338(38.9%), 147(16.9%), 81(9.3%), 27(3.1%), 23(2.6%) papers, respectively. And 62(7.1%) papers of the involved papers didn't use statistical methods. To improve the quality of Oriental medicine related articles, we have to use proper statistical methods with consultation of statistician or other experts before accepting a manuscript are needed.

  • Patient-physician interaction (PPI) is an important area in medical education, but in-depth discussions on the content of the outcome of patient-doctor education are rare. Therefore, in this study, we will systematically analyze the research on PPI education in Korea. In this study, papers searched with keywords related to PPI education from Korea's academic journal service were targeted according to a systematic literature analysis method. The scope of the study was to include papers published in academic journals that are candidates for Korea Citation Index registration, excluding dissertations, research reports, posters, conference presentations, books, and internet materials. The content included papers targeting medical education and medical school students was set as the range. As a result of the analysis, although communication between PPI has many positive effects in the PPI in medical education at medical schools, obstacles do occur, and various ways to overcome them were suggested. Therefore, although medical interview training between patients and doctors in medical schools is necessary, it was analyzed as being based on overseas research or lacking in specific content. The core of PPI education appears to be medical interviews, and it seems necessary to discuss whether empathy or patient-centered medical care are appropriate as the main principles of PPI education in Korea. Therefore, education on the patient-doctor relationship is an important element in medical humanities and medical humanities education, and it is expected that research and education on this will progress more actively.

  • The purpose of this review was to survey the Korean Medicine related papers about women with primary dysmenorrhea in order to develop the clinical protocol of the diagnostic medical device. We searched the literature from 2000 through April 2015 using 5 online databases including Oriental Medicine Advanced Searching Integrated Sysptem (OASIS), Research Information Sharing Service (RISS), DataBase Periodical Information Academic (DBpia) and Korean Medical Database (KMBase). We selected papers to meet the following inclusion criteria: the papers involved dysmenorrhea (excluding secondary dysmenorrhea), published papers (excluding textbook, educational materials, conferences, etc.) and the papers matched search keywords or scope, but excluded papers to meet the following exclusion criteria: the duplicative papers, get out of the keywords and scope and not in english or korean language. Finally we found 17 papers and classified the papers according to the three search purposes which were diagnostic tools for evaluating the menstrual pain, dysmenorrhea' pattern identification and menstrual phase. Out of the 16 studies, 4 studies were focused on the diagnostic tools including Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Measurement of Menstrual Pain (MMP) and etc. Other 5 studies were aimed at menstrual phase, and the other 7 studies were studied for pattern identification. The VAS has been widely used in research and in clinical practice for the detection of the menstrual pain. Treatments for patients with primary dysmenorrhea can be prescribed in consideration of their patterns of sasang constitution or body constitution as following: Qi stagnation-Blood deficiency, cold dampness, Qi deficiency-blood deficiency and liver-kidney deficiency etc. This results of research will be used as a useful material during plan a clinical study of primary dysmenorrhea and acquisition of good clinical data.

  • The medical industry is rapidly evolving into a combination of artificial intelligence (AI) and ICT technology, such as mobile health, wireless medical, telemedicine and precision medical care. Medical artificial intelligence can be diagnosed and treated, and autonomous surgical robots can be operated. For smart medical services, data such as medical information and personal medical information are needed. AI is being developed to integrate with companies such as Google, Facebook, IBM and others in the health care field. Telemedicine services are also becoming available. However, security issues of medical information for smart medical industry are becoming important. It can have a devastating impact on life through hacking of medical devices through vulnerable areas. Research on medical information is proceeding on the necessity of privacy and privacy protection. However, there is a lack of research on the practical measures for protecting medical information and the seriousness of security threats. Therefore, in this study, we want to confirm the research trend by collecting data related to medical information in recent 5 years. In this study, smart medical related papers from 2014 to 2018 were collected using smart medical topics, and the medical information papers were rearranged based on this. Research trend analysis uses topic modeling technique for topic information. The result constructs topic network based on relation of topics and grasps main trend through topic.
