  • The primary purpose of this study is to examine consumers'probing actions to see what information sources consumers search for medical information when there are diverse medical service information channels, and classify consumers by information source. Its secondary purpose is to understand trust of information and attitude toward information by consumer type, value of medical service, satisfaction with medical service, and word-of-mouth intention. This study will concretely identify information utilization patterns of medical consumers, and explain the unique characteristics and behavior of segmented types of medical consumers. The significance of this study lies in the search for ways to establish information channels trusted by consumers for building an efficient medical service market in the future. The results of this study show that consumers were classified by the latent class analysis(LCA) into 5 types: low-level information seekers, word-of-mouth information seekers, mass media information seekers, digital information seekers and diverse information seekers. The reliability of information sources by type of medical consumer was statistically significant, and in the analysis of differences in consumer attitude, there was a statistically significant difference in cognitive responses. The value of medical service was statistically significant in health recovery and medical service word-of-mouth intention.

  • The purpose of this article is (1) to measure the attitudes of health care consumers towards medical service, the physicians' duty to provide information and patient self-determination options, (2) to discover the their related variables. The attitude of health care consumers towards medical service reveals statistically significant corelation with age and education. Among the statistically significant independent variables it is significantly related with age in the multiple regression analysis. The attitude of health care consumers towards the physicians' duty to provide information reveals statistically significant corelation with age, education and the attitude of health care consumers towards medical service. Among these independent variables it is significantly related with the attitude of health care consumers towards medical service in the multiple regression analysis. The attitude of health care consumers towards patients' self-determination options reveals statistically significant corelation with age, the attitude of health care consumers towards medical service and the attitude of health care consumers towards the physicians' duty to provide information. Among these independent variables it is significantly related with the attitude of health care consumers towards the physicians' duty to provide information in the multiple regression analysis.

  • This study takes an effort to suggest solutions for medical service consumers' sovereignty. Specifically, consumer evaluation, information seeking level, and affecting factors on information seeking level were explored in terms of medical service. In present study, medical information included medical institution and doctors, prescription, diseases, medical treatment and medical expense. Medical service consumers' information seeking is identified as consumers' own efforts to acquire medical information through various sources. The analysis results suggested that consumers' information seeking level is even lower, while their evaluation level is somewhat low. Moreover, the result for information seeking level by consumer characteristics implied that people who have high education, high economic status, medical knowledge, and high attitudes for consumer right are active information seekers. Finally, consumer attitudes for right appeared most influential factor on information seeking level, implying direction for medical service consumer education.

Methods: Data were collected with self-administered questionnaire and analyzed using frequency, %, mean, standard deviation, t-test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis. Result: Nursing service gap perceived by consumers was smaller than that of providers. Consumer's overall satisfaction with nursing and medical service was higher than that of nurses. In consumers, nursing service satisfaction alone accounted for 62.9% of the variance in their intent to revisit the hospital, while explained 3% of the variance in providers. • This study attempts to analyze some determinants of consumers' medical service quality and their complaining behavior. The results can be summerized as follows: 1. The determinants of consumers' perceived medical service quality could be categorized as five factors; i.e. nursery, hospital environment, medical doctors, other staffs service fee. Among them nursery sector consists of 32% variance. 2. According to the discriminant analysis, those determinants are of great value to distinguish between satisfied/unsatisfied group. The hit ratio was 85.4% which is relatively high score. 3. The type of complaining behavior could be grouped into no action, private and public complaining behavior. Most of respondents belonged to no action group and a few showed private complaining behavior. Any respondents who were willing to show public complaining behavior could not be found out. 4. These variables which influence complaining behavior were preconception toward hospital, barrier to complaining process and expected complaining behavior. Among them the first one was most influential variable. 5. In order to distinguish between complaining/non complaining behavior group, discriminant analysis was done. The result showed the above three variables had a significantly discriminatory power, the hit ratio reaching above 70%. In summary, we can see that consumers' evaluation on the whole medical service depends on the external factor such as staffs' attitude or hospital facilities due to the lack of their ability to evaluate highly specialized service like doctor's treatment.

To that end, methodologies used include SERVQUAL and a part of HBM model. SERVQUAL is consumer's content dimensions about some service and HBM is a Model of health beliefs. In particular, the purpose is to find out how their perceptions about two dimensions of HBM(perceived benefits, perceived barriers) influence their satisfaction and medical service usage. As a result, it reveals that 4 dimensions of SERVQUAL influence significantly to the perceived benefits in medical service. Our finding might have strategic implications needed for hospitals by consumers of medical services.
