  • 1. Purpose We inquire into difference of blood flow velocity according Sasang Constitution. 2. Method We selected observation group that they are 251 patients among of the patients who are had a medical early examination of stroke. We classified observation group by Sasang Constitution and compared each of measured blood flow velocity by TCD. 3. Result 1) We found out that Taeumin is highest in fat rate, height and blood pressure. 2) Blood flow mean velocity of MCA is not found out significant difference by Sasang Constitution. But, Taeumin is found out highest in left and right. 3) Taeumin is found out that blood flow velocity of Siphon sinus ICA is highest.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the oral health condition and dental treatment need of low socioeconomic elderly people. A total of 116 elderly people who visited Boramae Hospital were evaluated with oral examination and panoramic radiogaph. The results showed that the most expecting treatment of low income aged people was removable partial denture. It was very clear in the age group of 70-84. In the age group under 70, most of the patients wanted prosthodontic tratement using fixed partial denture or crown. As the result of this study, elderly people with low socioeconomic status under age 85 needed removable partial denture or fixed prosthesis than complete denture. It is necessary to develop a more expanding and customized Senile prosthetic restoration program.

  • The medicine is used for diagnosis, treatment or prevention of disease and consequently has an important influence upon human life and health. Its effectiveness and safety must be guaranteed. In order to achieve the facility that meets GMP, KFDA has provided standards for quality assurance of the manufacture, examination and tests of medical supplies. The result of this study were as follows : the GMP facilities are divided into work, lab/test and storage spaces, and the systematic corridor. The clean rooms are mainly installed in work and lab/test spaces, and maintain class 10,000 in average. The individual space for the procedures that requires class 100 is not provided as a separate division. Instead, they are performed in the clean bench of the laboratory.

  • Keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS) is a relatively common eye disease in the dog, Reduction or arrest of aqueous tear production by lacrimal glands results in quantitative alteration of the precorneal tear film (PTF) and KCS may result. A dog with a presumptive diagnosis of KCS referred was used for the study of KCS. Cytological and histopathologic examination is performed, and the various types of medical and surgical treatment are studied, including the operation of parotid duct transposition (PDT). This report described unilateral KCS in a dog of unknown etiology who responded to PDT.

  • Urine analysis is one of the most important medical examination in the hospital. Not only the data for the ingredients of urine through chemical analysis, but also the data related to fluid dynamics, e.g., peak flow rate, average flow rate, may provide some useful information about patient's state of health. Therefore, we develop the portable system to measure and analyse fluid volume/flow rate in this study. This system can store and print the measured data during the pre-specified time interval, and provide some meaningful data related with fluid dynamics. We explain the method and the technical stuff to implement the system, and show the result.

  • Objectives : In this case report, we will present a patient with dementia with Lewy bodies improved by application of oriental medical treatments. Methods : A 82 year-old female patient has been suffered by dementia with Lewy bodies for 7~8 years. We treated the patient with Herbal medication and acupuncture. The effects of treatment were measured by MMSE-K (Mini-Mental State Examination-K). Results : As a result of oriental treatments, the quality of sleep was improved, also the level of cognition was improved. Conclusions : These results suggest that oriental treatments have an effect on Dementia with Lewy bodies.

  • In this study, head injury by impact force was evaluated by numerical analysis with 3-dimensional finite element (FE) model. Brain deformation by frontal head impact was analyzed to evaluate traumatic brain injury (TBI). The variations of head acceleration and intra-cranial pressure (ICP) during the impact were analyzed. Relative displacement between the skull and the brain due to head impact was investigated from this simulation. In addition, pathological severity was evaluated according to head injury criterion (HIC) from simulation with FE model. The analytic result of brain damage was accorded with that of the cadaver test performed by Nahum et al.(1977) and many medical reports. The main emphasis of this study is that our FE model was valid to simulate the traumatic brain injury by head impact and the variation of the HIC value was evaluated according to various impact conditions using the FE model.

  • This paper summarized the results of previous and recent studies on cumulative trauma disorders (CTD) and provides a prevention strategy for CTD and showed the results from a quite extensive survey with tables and figures. This is a follow-up study of Kwon (1993) 〔2〕. From the previous studies, Kwon (1993) showed that many people are exposed on CTD, but they did not only know the clear reasons why they got CTD, but also how to prevent or change their workstation〔2〕. Lee (1996) showed the result from both field survey and medical examination. He found that most frequent symptoms are CTS (nerve disorders) and tendon disorders 〔6〕. From these previous results, it is obvious that CTD patients will increase in Korean industries if we did not pay attention to this CTD problem. Therefore a proper education of Ergonomics, CTD prevention for workers and moderate changes in workplace are necessary. From 1998 and 1999 follow-up studies, there are still many people(23%) did not hear about CTD, CTS, or MSD. Only 42% of respondents is exercising during or after work for short-time. Therefore, there are many rooms for prevention strategy of CTD and education for preventing CTD.

  • Data mining is known useful in medical area when no availability of evidence favoring a particular treatment option is found. Huge volume of structured/unstructured data is collected by the healthcare field in order to find unknown information or knowledge for effective diagnosis and clinical decision making. The data of 5,179 records considered for analysis has been collected from Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey(KHANES) during 2-years. Data splitting, referred as the training and test sets, was applied to predict to fit the model. We analyzed to predict chronic kidney disease (CKD) using data mining method such as naive Bayes, logistic regression, CART and artificial neural network(ANN). This result present to select significant features and data mining techniques for the lifestyle factors related CKD.

  • A officinal mushroom, Phellinus linteus (PL) has been known to exhibit potent biological activities including antioxidative and anticancer effect. PL is consumed as a type of powder or extract for the purpose of health promotion and disease treatment. Recently superfine PL products was commercialized according to the development of pulverizing technology such as nanomill, so the evaluation of food safety is suggested. This study was conducted to evaluate the food safety of superfine PL (SPL) through hematological, biochemical and histological examination in mice as compared with fine PL (FPL). In the particle size distribution in volume after nanomill processing, the mean diameter of SPL and FPL particles was 11.78 ${\mu}m$ and 216.1 ${\mu}m$, and d (0.5), the particle diameter measured at 50% of distribution was 5.5 ${\mu}m$ and 147.9 ${\mu}m$, respectively. As the result of body weight, food intake and the weight of organs, SPL group didn't show any statistical difference compared with FPL group and normal group (N). Hematological and biochemical values were also involved in the normal range, although ALT (N vs. FPL, P<0.001) and BUN (N vs. FPL, P<0.01; N vs. SPL, P<0.01) showed significance compared with N group but there are no significance between FPL and SPL group. In the result of histological examination with liver, kidney, spleen, and small and large intestine, abnormal findings such as inflammatory reaction and histological changes were not observed. Our results suggest that the oral intake of SPL diet is not harmful to the animal in the hematological, biochemical and histological aspects although particle size was reduced to the level of superfine. However, further study will be necessary to confirm the histological safety in relation to the gastrointestinal contact of superfine particles in the case of large amount and long-term intake.
