  • In this paper, we proposed a three-dimensional visualization system for medical images in augmented reality based on deep learning. In the proposed system, the artificial neural network model performed fully automatic segmentation of the region of lung and pulmonary nodule from chest CT images. After applying the three-dimensional volume rendering method to the segmented images, it was visualized in augmented reality devices. As a result of the experiment, when nodules were present in the region of lung, it could be easily distinguished with the naked eye. Also, the location and shape of the lesions were intuitively confirmed. The evaluation was accomplished by comparing automated segmentation results of the test dataset to the manual segmented image. Through the evaluation of the segmentation model, we obtained the region of lung DSC (Dice Similarity Coefficient) of 98.77%, precision of 98.45%, recall of 99.10%. And the region of pulmonary nodule DSC of 91.88%, precision of 93.05%, recall of 90.94%. If this proposed system will be applied in medical fields such as medical practice and medical education, it is expected that it can contribute to custom organ modeling, lesion analysis, and surgical education and training of patients.

  • Classification of different blood cell types is an essential task for human's medical treatment. The white blood cells have different types of cells. Counting total White Blood Cells (WBC) and differential of the WBC types are required by the physicians to diagnose the disease correctly. This paper used transfer learning methods to the pre-trained deep learning models to classify different WBCs. The best pre-trained model was Inception ResNetV2 with Adam optimizer that produced classification accuracy of 98.4% for the dataset comprising four types of WBCs.

  • Different diseases occur in the brain. For instance, hereditary and progressive diseases affect and degenerate the white matter. Although addressing, diagnosing, and treating complex abnormalities in the brain is challenging, different strategies have been presented with significant advances in medical research. With state-of-art developments in artificial intelligence, new techniques are being applied to brain magnetic resonance images. Deep learning has been recently used for the segmentation and classification of brain images. In this study, we classified normal and pathological brain images using pretrained deep models through transfer learning. The EfficientNet-B5 model reached the highest accuracy of 98.39% on real data, 91.96% on augmented data, and 100% on pathological data. To verify the reliability of the model, fivefold cross-validation and a two-tier cross-test were applied. The results suggest that the proposed method performs reasonably on the classification of brain magnetic resonance images.

  • Tumors of the brain are the deadliest, with a life expectancy of only a few years for those with the most advanced forms. Diagnosing a brain tumor is critical to developing a treatment plan to help patients with the disease live longer. A misdiagnosis of brain tumors will lead to incorrect medical treatment, decreasing a patient's chance of survival. Radiologists classify brain tumors via biopsy, which takes a long time. As a result, the doctor will need an automatic classification system to identify brain tumors. Image classification is one application of the deep learning method in computer vision. One of the deep learning's most powerful algorithms is the convolutional neural network (CNN). This paper will introduce a novel deep learning structure and image gradient to classify brain tumors. Meningioma, glioma, and pituitary tumors are the three most popular forms of brain cancer represented in the Figshare dataset, which contains 3,064 T1-weighted brain images from 233 patients. According to the numerical results, our method is more accurate than other approaches.

  • Deep learning enables machines to have perception and can potentially outperform humans in the medical field. It can save a lot of time and reduce human error by detecting certain patterns from medical images without being trained. The main goal of this paper is to build the optimal model for breast mass classification by applying various methods that influence the performance of Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). Google's newly developed software library Tensorflow was used to build CNN and the mammogram dataset used in this study was obtained from 340 breast cancer cases. The best classification performance we achieved was an accuracy of 0.887, sensitivity of 0.903, and specificity of 0.869 for normal tissue versus malignant mass classification with augmented data, more convolutional filters, and ADAM optimizer. A limitation of this method, however, was that it only considered malignant masses which are relatively easier to classify than benign masses. Therefore, further studies are required in order to properly classify any given data for medical uses.

  • In this paper, the pattern of extracting the same expression is proposed by using the Android intelligent device to identify the facial expression. The understanding and expression of expression are very important to human computer interaction, and the technology to identify human expressions is very popular. Instead of searching for the symbols that users often use, you can identify facial expressions with a camera, which is a useful technique that can be used now. This thesis puts forward the technology of the third data is available on the website of the set, use the content to improve the infrastructure of the facial expression recognition accuracy, to improve the synthesis of neural network algorithm, making the facial expression recognition model, the user's facial expressions and similar expressions, reached 66%. It doesn't need to search for symbols. If you use the camera to recognize the expression, it will appear symbols immediately. So, this service is the symbols used when people send messages to others, and it can feel a lot of convenience. In countless symbols, there is no need to find symbols, which is an increasing trend in deep learning. So, we need to use more suitable algorithm for expression recognition, and then improve accuracy.

  • This paper proposed a method of validation data augmentation for improving the grading accuracy of diabetic macular edema (DME) using deep learning. The data augmentation technique is basically applied in order to secure diversity of data by transforming one image to several images through random translation, rotation, scaling and reflection in preparation of input data of the deep neural network (DNN). In this paper, we apply this technique in the validation process of the trained DNN, and improve the grading accuracy by combining the classification results of the augmented images. To verify the effectiveness, 1,200 retinal images of Messidor dataset was divided into training and validation data at the ratio 7:3. By applying random augmentation to 359 validation data, $1.61{\pm}0.55%$ accuracy improvement was achieved in the case of six times augmentation (N=6). This simple method has shown that the accuracy can be improved in the N range from 2 to 6 with the correlation coefficient of 0.5667. Therefore, it is expected to help improve the diagnostic accuracy of DME with the grading information provided by the proposed DNN.

  • In the past decade, deep learning has been applied to various medical image analysis tasks. Skeletal bone age estimation is clinically important as it can help prevent age-related illness and pave the way for new anti-aging therapies. Recent research has applied deep learning techniques to the task of bone age assessment and achieved positive results. In this paper, we propose a bone age prediction method using a deep convolutional neural network. Specifically, we first train a classification model that automatically localizes the most discriminative region of an image and crops it from the original image. The regions of interest are then used as input for a regression model to estimate the age of the patient. The experiments are conducted on a whole-body scintigraphy dataset that was collected by Chonnam National University Hwasun Hospital. The experimental results illustrate the potential of our proposed method, which has a mean absolute error of 3.35 years. Our proposed framework can be used as a robust supporting tool for clinicians to prevent age-related diseases.

  • This study aimed to implement a deep learning model that can perform quantitative quality control through ACTS software used for quantitative evaluation of ACR phantom in CT quality control and evaluate its usefulness. By changing the scanning conditions, images of three modules of the ACR phantom's slice thickness (ST), low contrast resolution (LC), and high contrast resolution (HC) were obtained and classified as ACTS software. The deep learning model used ResNet18, implementing three models in which ST, HC, and LC were learned with epoch 50 and an integrated model in which three modules were learned with Epoch 10, 30, and 50 at once. The performance of each model was evaluated through Accuracy and Loss. When comparing and evaluating the accuracy and loss function values of the deep learning models by ST, LC, and HC modules, the Accuracy and Loss of the HC model were the best with 100% and 0.0081, and in the integrated model according to the Epoch value, Accuracy and Loss with epoch 50 were the best with 96.29% and 0.1856. This paper showed that quantitative quality control is possible through a deep learning model, and it can be used as a basis and evidence for applying deep learning to the CT quality control.
