This paper proposes real-time video transmission system by the car-mounted cameras based on MOST Network. Existing vehicles transmit videos by connecting the car-mounted cameras in the form of analog. However, the increase in the number of car-mounted cameras leads to development of the network to connect the cameras. In this paper, DSP is applied to process MPEG 2 encoding/decoding for real-time video transmission in a short period of time. MediaLB is employed to transfer data stream between DSP and MOST network controller. During this procedure, DSP cannot transport data stream directly from MediaLB. Therefore, FPGA is used to deliver data stream transmitting MediaLB to DSP. MediaLB is designed to streamline hardware/software application development for MOST Network and to support all MOST Network data transportation methods. As seen in this paper, the test results verify that real-time video transmission using proposed system operates in a normal matter.
Feasibility of microbial culture media using by-product of salt fermented kanary was investigated. Gram negative strain, Escherichia coli, and Gram positive strain, Bacillus subtilis, and bioluminescent Photobacterium Phosphoreum were incubated with kanary by-Product media (KB media). Compared with LB media, KB media had enough carbon source, but lacked nitrogen source and growth factor. When 0.5% of peptone as a nitrogen source and 0.3% of yeast extract as nitrogen and growth factor source were fortified in KB media, the cell population rate was similar to LB media. Also, when 0.5% of yeast extract was fortified to KB media, it showed the same result as in LB media. The price of KB media with fortification of 0.5% peptone and 0.3% yeast extract, and 0.5% of yeast extract is only 46 and 19% of that of LB media, respectively. These results showed that kanary by-Product could be a good and cheaper bacterial culture media if small amount of nitrogen source and growth factor were added.
LB20304 is a novel fluoroquinolone that exhibits a potent broad spectrum antibacterial activity against both gram-positve and gram-negative bacteria. The MICs (Minimal Inhibitory Concentration) of LB20304 were determined against both gram-positve and gram-negative bacteria under various conditions including several media, pHs, and inoculum concentrations. The in vitro activity of LB20304 was not significantly affected by the changes in testing conditions such as components of media and inoculum concentrations, but it was slightly reduced by acid condition. The MICs and MBCs (Minimal Bactericidal Concentration) of LB20304 against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were hardly affected by the presence of 50 % human serum, mouse serum, guinea pig serum or horse serum, and the MBCs were equal to or at most four-times higher than the MiCs. The activities of LB20304 were decreased by the presence of high concentraion of $Mg^{++}$ or human urine (pH, 5.5) in the test media. The frequencies of mutants resistant to LB20304 were similar to or lower than those found in ciprofloxacin and sparfloxacin.

LB10522 is a new parenteral broad spectrum cephalosporin with a catechol moiety at C-7 position of beta-lactam ring. This compound can utilize tonB-dependent iron transp ort system in addition to porin proteins to enter bacterial periplasmic space and access to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) which are the lethal targets of ${\beta}$-lactam antibiotics. The chelating activity of LB10522 to metal iron was measured by spectrophotometrically scanning the absorbance from 200 to 900nm. When $FeCl_3$ was added, optical density was increased between 450 and 800nm. LB10522 was more active against gram-negative strains in iron-depleted media than in iron-replete media. This is due to the increased expression of iron transport channels in iron-depleted condition. LB10522 showed a similar activity against E. coli DC2 (permeability mutant) and E. coli DCO (wild type strain) in both iron-depleted and iron-replete media, indicating a minimal permeaility barrier for LB10522 uptake. LB10522 had high affinities to PBP 3 and PBP 1A, 1B of E. coli. By blocking these proteins, LB10522 caused inhibition of cell division and the eventual death of cells. This result was correlated well with the morphological changes in E. coli exposed to LB10522. Although the in vitro MIC of LB10522 against P. aeruginosa 1912E mutant (tonB) was 8-times higher than that of the P. aeruginosa 1912E parent strain, LB10522 showed a similar in vivo protection efficacy against both strains in the mouse systemic infection model. This result suggested that tonB mutant, which requires a high level of iron for normal growth, might have a difficulty in surviving in their host with an iron-limited environment.

This study was conducted to develop an edible culture media with various types of cereals and soybeans for the pre-cultivation of lactic acid bacteria (LAB). To manufacture the edible culture media, LAB enrichment media were prepared using cereals such as brown rice (including germinated brown rice, glutinous brown rice, and germinated glutinous brown rice), yellow soybeans (including yellow soybeans, hulled yellow soybeans, germinated yellow soybeans, hulled and germinated yellow soybeans), and black soybeans (black soybeans, hulled black soybeans, germinated black soybeans, hulled and germinated black soybeans). Seven species of LAB were used in the experiment: Lactobacillus (Lb.) farciminis, Lb. homohiochii, Lb. pentosus, Lb. plantarum, Leuconostoc (Leu.) paramesenteroides, Leu. citreum, and Leu. lactis. For edible culture media from cereals, the average viable cell count of the seven starter cultures was 7.6~8.0 log CFU/mL, while that of the MRS culture medium, a synthetic medium, was 9.2 log CFU/mL; thus proliferation was lower by about 1~2 log CFU/mL in starter cultures from cereals compared to the synthetic medium. In the case of the edible culture media from soybeans, most bacteria showed higher proliferation in the hulled and germinated soybean media. In particular, Lb. plantarum showed the highest cell count at 10.08 log CFU/mL. In the case of edible culture media from black soybeans, the proliferation rate was higher in the hulled and germinated black soybean medium. Lb. homohiochii showed the highest proliferation in the hulled and germinated black soybean medium at 9.90 log CFU/mL. All results show that edible culture media using cereals and soybeans are generally good for LAB. Especially, hulled and germinated black soybeans are optimal for the pre-cultivation of LAB medium.
Vibrio, Photobacterium, Alteromonas and Xenorhabdus species are capable of emitting light, called bioluminescence. They exist in marine, freshwater and terrestrial environments. Bacterial bioluminescent reaction is that reduced riboflavin phosphates and a long-chain aldehyde are oxidized in the presence of molecular oxygen and enzyme luciferase. This experiment aims to develop the proper culture media and to optimize the storage condition for the recovery of bioluminescent activity in Photobacterium phosphoreum. The Luria broth (LB) medium was modified for cultivation of Photobacterium phophoreum, called as modified LB(mLB) medium. The mLB medium is LB fortified with 3% glycerol and 1.5% NaCl. In mLB medium. bacterial growth and bioluminescent activity are 25% higher than those in a Nutrient broth medium. When the cell stocks were stored at $-20^{\circ}C$, $-70^{\circ}C$ and LN2 for 3 months, cell growth and bioluminescent activity of culture after stored at $-20^{\circ}C$ were better than those of other treatments. The highest bioluminescent activity obtained at the late exponential phase in all treatments. When the cell stock was freeze-dried with 5% adonitol as a cryoprotectant, the recovery of cell was better than those of control and freeze-dried cell stock without addition of cryoprotectant.
This study reported the novel use of fallen leaf extract as a microbial culture media for the first time. Extract from hardwood fallen leaves (HLE) was prepared under high temperature and pressure conditions and then supplemented with specific nutrients. The growth of four industrially significant prokaryotes on the HLE-based media was measured and compared with that on enriched media (Luria-Bertani, LB). Notably, supplementing HLE with only 0.5 g of yeast extract and 1 g tryptone per liter showed a similar growth rate of Pseudomonas chlororaphis compared to standard LB media. Overall, the HLE media developed in this study offers a sustainable and cost-effective approach to microbial media production, capitalizing on the valorization of forest waste.

Anti-microbial effects of the medium extracts from three different lactic acid bacteria (LB1, Lactobacillus acidophilus; LB2, Lactobacillus casei; LB3, Lactobacillus sicerae) were investigated. Three different extracts of lactic acid bacteria media (ELAM) did not show significant changes in pork loin quality after 3 and 14 days of cold storage such as general contents, colors, pH, and TBARS. To determine anti-bacterial activity of three ELAM, three pathogenic bacteria (Bacillus cereus, Bacillus subtilis, and Staphylococcus aureus) were obtained and incubated with ELAM-absorbed paper discs. ELAM of LB2 and LB3 showed significantly larger bacterial growth inhibitory zones compared with that of LB1 (P<0.05). When the pathogenic bacteria inoculated in pork loin with three ELAM, total microbial contents of pork loin treated with ELAM of LB3 after 14 days of cold storage showed significantly lower microbial contents compared to those of control, LB1 and LB2 (P<0.05). In conclusion, ELAM of LB3 derived from L. sicerae had the most effective pathogenic bacteria inhibitory activity on agar and pork loin. This is the first result to report the antibacterial effect of L. sicerae. If the safety and toxicity characteristics of L. sicerae are further investigated, this new lactic acid bacterium would have potential as an effective and nature-friendly food preserving agent.
Tobacco (Nicotiana tahacum L. cv. Wisconsin 38) leaf discs were cocultivated with Agrohacterium carrying a leghemoglobin (Lb) cDNA from Canavalia lineata. Seven plants were regenerated from the transformed leaf discs on MS media supplemented with 0.5 mg/L BAP, 0.1 mg/L ${\alpha}-NAA$, 200 mg/L kanamycin and 500 mg/L carbenicillin. Southern hybridization and PCR of genomic DNA from transgenic plants showed that the Lb cDNA was stably integrated into the genome of the tobacco. Total RNA from the transgenic tobacco showed northern hybridization signal at 1,000 nt and PCR of the first strand cDNA synthesized from the total RNA amplified 0.5 kb Lb cDNA. Furthermore, western hybridization using a polyclonal antibody against soybean Lb showed a 15.8 kD LB-like band on SDS-PAGE of proteins from the transformed tobacco. These results demonstrated that the Lb cDNA of C. lineata was not only incorporated into the genome of tobacco, but also transcribed into mRNA and translated into Lb protein in the transformed tabacco.
Bacillus sp. 79-23 spores were irradiated with $^{60}Co$ gamma-rays at doses ranging from 0.5 to 5 kGy. Following gamma-irradiation, seven mutant strains were isolated by scoring the halo sizes formed around the colonies grown on LB agar plates containing 4% carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) and trypan blue. The mutant strains showed a 1.5 to 2-fold increase in carboxymethylcellulase (CMCase) activity over the parent strain. Wheat bran acted as an effective inducer for CMCase production in the parent and mutant strains. Mutant strains 68 and 70 were identified as exhibiting higher CMCase activities than those of other mutants in LB media both with and without 3% wheat bran. In addition, these strains seem to produce substantially lower amounts of capsular materials, whereas the parent strain produced large amounts of them in both liquid and solid LB media. In flask cultures, the CMCase production by mutants 68 and 70 reached maximum levels of 17.5 unit/ml and 15.7 unit/ml, respectively, in an LB medium containing 3% wheat bran.
