  • This study aimed to investigate the roles of three health-oriented personal factors-health technology innovativeness (HTI), health consciousness (HC), and health information orientation (HIO)-in determining Koreans' perceptions about telemedicine. Based on an extended version of the technology acceptance model (TAM), two perceptual components-perceived usefulness (PU) and perceived ease of use (PEOU)-of telemedicine were considered for this investigation. Data from 699 usable surveys were analyzed using path analysis. The results from the path analysis indicated that while HTI and HC had no or limited effects on the PU and PEOU of telemedicine, the effects of HIO on those two perceptual components of telemedicine were statistically significant. Moreover, the results from the path analysis showed that there were significant regional differences in the effects of HTI and HC on the PU and PEOU of telemedicine. In general, these effects were greater among the metropolitan residents than they were among the rural residents.

  • We are inundated with visual media; countless such media, ranging from Hollywood blockbusters, American drama, Korean films with enormous budgets to independent films, appeal to our sensibility and engage our empathy and insight. The making of mega-hits that attract millions and a drama of viewer ratings of over forty percent lies in how persuasive the sensibility of the narratives are to an audience from a different milieu and personality. It leads to a question: how can empathy of such a varied group of people be won towards the perspective of directors and authors who come from different nationality and ethnicity to themselves? In exploring the issue, I aim to adopt a psychoanalytical view of human psychology, into consciousness and unconsciousness. Freudian psychoanalysis and Jungian analytic psychology in depth psychology underpin my analysis of visual media. It further enables my examination of unconsciousness applied to spatial design, which is elementary in visual media. In sum, this research aims to improve understanding of spatial design in films, a product of creative human consciousness, by interpreting this as an outcome of the unconscious. This is to apply the concept of collective unconscious in Jung's analytical psychology.

  • This paper aims at studying how to express and be used the characteristics of New age consciousness in the popular culture. New age consciousness is used interchangeably with new age movement. The philosophy of new age is based on humanism, which the infinite potential power of human can change the human himself and the earth forward to be shown the new age of peace, hope and love in an instant. This consciousness is based on the Western secret art and Eastern consciousness against the Christianity and has begun to develop in the alternative religion influenced by Postmodernism and Counterculture movement on 1970's which is against the corruption of American society on 1960's. However, new age consciousness has tried to change to a social movement for the culture, the peace, the happiness of mankind and the healing society rather than a religion idea because of the limitation of the theory itself. Nevertheless, the new age culture contains the characteristics of the religion, and the characteristics has been easily borrowed to the mess media and infiltrated to us. In a broad sense, the religion includes both own religion beliefs and behavior and the social movements and tendencies about the established religion which pursues the holy and the highest value. The religion is valued as a complex culture phenomenon, which the religion presents the right direction and the meaning of life as well as contributes to the maintenance of social order and the social unification. For this reason, the religion and the culture have a deep relationship between mess media and needs to be captured and listen to religious longing lurking deep within the human consciousness in order to give the audience impressed and fun. In the study, the characteristics of New age such as reincarnation, illusion, meditation, monism and pantheism is analyzed for what affects students studying mess media and the popular culture. And then the study is analyzed the characteristics of new age consciousness in the animation through 'Avatar'. This study shed new light on the influence of religion which is ideological identity of popular culture, and I expect to be a little help to have the insight to examine the mess media with a various angles.

  • This study is analyzing the effects of energy conservation consciousness on Korean energy saving behavior through the mediating effects of energy-related broadcasting media, such as TV. The study is carried out through the survey with structured questionnaire for each factors, using a mediating analysis based on PROCESS Macro proposed by Hayes (2013). The results of the study have been found that people with higher energy conservation consciousness displayed energy saving behavior more frequently and more actively for energy saving behavior as they were more exposed to energy-related broadcasting media. By energy-related broadcasting media the effect of energy public service ad and campaign was the largest at 15.3%, followed by energy news at 12.1%. But energy documentary has no effect on energy saving behavior. Based on the results of this analysis, it is necessary to establish a broadcasting policy that enhances the frequency of energy-related broadcasting media and energy documentary that can induce energy saving behavior. It is also necessary to make efforts to increase the reliability of analysis through empirical data such as electricity bills and fuel cost which show the actual saving level by energy saving behavior.

  • This paper reports on an ongoing study that utilizes the literacy autobiographies of 10 Asian and 10 Western graduate students from TESOL Masters programs in Korea and America as data for a cross cultural study on the discursive process of identity formation and the development of critical consciousness (Freire, 2000). While the data suggests similarities and differences between cultures in terms of the effects of education, social relationships, media, and religion, no definitive claims may be made due to the small size of the research corpus. However, analysis of the data revealed that only four of the narratives could be judged as engaging in critical introspection of individual subjects systems of knowledge, values, and beliefs, as opposed to the other narratives that were primarily descriptive of individual personal experiences. As such, this study found that while the willingness and ability to engage in the critical practices which lead to the development of a critical consciousness are similar across cultures, they may be mediated by the literacy practices inscribed in education, media, and other social practices.
