  • Bone marrow derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) are largely studied for their potential clinical use. But it is hard to get enough number of those cells for clinical trials and give serious pain to the patients. Adipose tissue is derived from the embryonic mesenchyme and contains a stroma that is easily isolated with large amount. This cell population (adipose derived stem cells: ADSCs) can be isolated from human lipoaspirates and like MSCs, differentiate toward the osteogenic, adipogenic, myogenic and chondrogenic lineages. To confirm whether adipose tissue contains stem cells, the ADSCs extracted from omental or subcutaneous fat tissue were expanded during third to fifth passages. The phenotype of the ADSCs was identified by the conventional cell surface markers using flow cytometry: positive for CD29 and CD44, but negative for CD34, CD45, CD117 and HLA-DR that similar to those observed on BMSCs. The ADSCs were able to differentiate into the osteoblast or adipocytes with induction media. Finally, ADACs expressed multiple CD marker antigens similar to those observed on BMSCs and differentiated into osteoblast, adipocyte. With this, human adipotissue contains multipotent cells and may represent an alternative stem cell source to bone marrow-derived MSCs.

  • This paper addresses a problem of extraction of parameteric motion estimation and structural motion segmentation for compact image sequence representation and object-based generic video coding. In order to extract meaningful motion structure from image sequences, a direct parameteric motion estimation based on a pre-segmentation is proposed. The pre-segmentation which considers the motion of the moving objects is canied out based on probabilistic clustering with mixture models using optical flow and image intensities. Parametric motion segmentation can be obtained by iterated estimation of motion model parameters and region reassignment according to a criterion using Gauss-Newton iterative optimization algorithm. The efficiency of the proposed methoo is verified with computer simulation using elF real image sequences.

  • Through the numerical analysis of the capillary pressure-based Richards equation with and without the effect of the capillary hysteresis under the boundary condition having an antecedent rainfall. the moving tendency of the wetting front, the redistribution of the moisture content, infiltration rate, cumulative infiltration etc, were computed. The effect of the capillary hysteresis cannot be neglected in analyzing an unsaturated flow, and the more accurate results may be obtained by the consideration of the hysteresis effect. If the effect of the hysteresis cannot be considered, the analysis by the use of the main wetting curve may give more reliable result than that of the main drying curve.

  • In this paper, we investigate the performance improvement by applying flow control to LonWorks-based network systems which support various communication media together with interpretable class of systems. To this end, we introduce a circular queue at each node of industrial network systems usually operated in open loop. Then we utilize the feedback information of the number of data in a queue, the data arriving interval in a queue and channel error to make the overall industrial network system in closed loop. We verify the improved performance of the network systems in view of throughput and fairness measures via the experimental results conducted in several field situation.

  • Oscillating Water Column is one of the most widely used converting systems all over the world. The operating performance is influenced by the efficiencies of the two converting stages in the OWC chamber-turbine integrated system. In order to study the effects of the pressure drop induced by the air turbine, the experiments using the impulse turbine and the orifice device are carried out in the wave simulator test rig. The numerical simulation utilizing the orifice and porous media modules is calculated and validated by the corresponding experimental data. The numerical wave tank based on the two-phase VOF model embedded with the above modules is employed to investigate the wave elevation, pressure variation inside the chamber and the air flow velocity in the duct. The effects of the air turbine on the integrated system and interaction among the wave elevation, pressure and air flow velocities variations are investigated, which demonstrates that the present numerical model are more accurate to be employed.

  • Polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) fuel cell stacks are constructed by stacking several to hundreds of unit cells depending on their power outputs required. Fuel and oxidant are distributed to each cell of a stack through so-called manifolds during its operation. In designing a stack, if the manifold sizes are too small, the fuel and oxidant would be maldistributed among the cells. On the contrary, the volume of the stack would be too large if the manifolds are oversized. In this study, we present a three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model with a geometrically simplified flow-field to optimize the size of the manifolds of a stack. The flow-field of the stack was simplified as a straight channel filled with porous media to reduce the number of computational meshes required for CFD simulations. Using the CFD model, we determined the size of the oxidant manifold of a 30 kW-class PEM fuel cell stack that comprises 99 cells. The stack with the optimal manifold size showed a quite uniform distribution of the cell voltages across the entire cells.

  • The natural convection and combined heat transfer induced by fire in a rectangular enclosure is numerically studied. The model for this numerical analysis is partially opened, it is divided by a vertical baffle projecting from ceiling. The solution procedure Includes the standard k- $\varepsilon$ model for turbulent flow and the discrete ordinates method (DOM ) is used for the calculation of radiative heat transfer equation. In this study, numerical simulation on the combined naturnal convection and radiation is carried out in a partial enclosure filled with absorbed-emitted gray media, but is not considered scattering problem. The velocity vectors, streamlines, and isothermal lines are compared the results of pure convection with those of the combined convection-radiation, the combined heat transfer. Comparing the results of pure convection with those of the combined convection-radiation, the combined heat transfer analysis shows the stronger circulation than those of the pure convection. Three different locations of heat source are considered to observe the effect of heat source location on the heat transfer phenomena. As the results, the circulation and the heat transfer In the left region from heating block are much more influenced than those in the right region. It is also founded that the radiation effect cannot be neglected in analyzing the building in fire.

  • A real-time violence detection algorithm based on a new descriptor using the magnitude and direction changes of movement in images is proposed. The descriptor was developed from the observation that the changes of violent actions are much larger than those of normal movements. Descriptor feature vectors consisting of descriptor values during several frames are obtained and these are inputs to SVM(Support Vector Machine) classifier for discriminating violence actions from and non-violence actions. Comparison experiments between the ViF(Violent Flow) and the proposed algorithm were conducted with three different types of datasets. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the ViF in every case.

  • This study aimed to address whether the varying degree of screen speed in the context of a Virtual reality exergame will interact with users' intrinsic motivation in influencing user perceptions. Results from our experiment (N = 40), showed that screen speed and intrinsic motivation have significantly interacted in influencing players' feeling of flow, attitude, and intention to replay the game (i.e., the 7km/h and 9km/h speeds have induced more favorable user perceptions than the 5km/h speed). Further implications of the findings are discussed.
