  • The design of a communication network has long been a challenging optimization problem. Since the optimal design of a network topology is a well known as a NP-complete problem, many researches have been conducted to obtain near optimal solutions in polynomial time instead of exact optimal solutions. All of these researches suggested diverse heuristic algorithms that can be applied to network design problems. Among these algorithms, a simulated annealing algorithm has been proved to guarantee a good solution for many NP-complete problems. in applying the simulated annealing algorithms to network design problems, generating mechanisms for initial solutions and candidate solutions play an important role in terms of goodness of a solution and efficiency. This study aims at analyzing these mechanisms through experiments, and then suggesting reliable mechanisms.

  • Tendon driven robot mechanisms have many advantages such as allowing miniaturization and light-weight designs and/or enhancing flexibility in the design of structures. When designing or analyzing tendon driven mechanisms, it is important to determine how the tendons should be connected and whether the designed mechanism is easily controllable. Graph representation is useful to view and analyze such tendon driven mechanisms that are complicatedly interconnected between mechanical elements. In this paper, we propose a method of generalized graph representation that provides us with an intuitive analysis tool not only for tendon driven manipulators, but also various other kinds of mechanical systems which are combined with tendons. This method leads us to easily obtain structure matrix - which is the one of the most important steps in analyzing tendon driven mechanisms.

  • The ketogenic diet has been widely used and proved to be effective for intractable epilepsy. Although the mechanisms underlying its antiepileptic effects remain to be proven, there are increasing experimental evidences for its neuroprotective effects along with many researches about expanding use of the diet in other neurologic disorders. The first success was reported in glucose transporter type 1 deficiency syndrome, in which the diet served as an alternative metabolic source. Many neurologic disorders share some of the common pathologic mechanisms such as mitochondrial dysfunction, altered neurotransmitter function and synaptic transmission, or abnormal regulation of reactive oxygen species, and the role of the ketogenic diet has been postulated in these mechanisms. In this article, we introduce an overview about the expanding use and emerging trials of the ketogenic diet in various neurologic disorders excluding intractable epilepsy and provide explanations of the mechanisms in that usage.

  • Waterjet is a very useful technology for rock excavation because of low level noise and vibration during breaking rocks. To accurately predict the volume and shape excavated by the waterjet, it is important to understand waterjet fracture mechanisms. There have been various theoretical assumptions and approaches in the literature. In this study, waterjet mechanisms are classified into three standards: a mechanism scale, theoretical assumption for a target material, and jet phase. In addition, through a waterjet experimental study for weathered and intact granitic rocks, a fracture shape is observed and analyzed on comparison with the previous mechanisms. As a result, best waterjet mechanisms are selected to explain the fracture pattern of the granitic rocks.

  • In oxide matrix-SiC(W) composites, instability and glassy phase formation due to oxidation at the high temperature and the diffusion of Si, respectively, cause brittle fracture and low reliability for ceramic materials. The mode of contribution in each mechanisms induced by matrix-whisker debonding, varies with the morphology of matrix-whisker interfaces. This work has described the dispersion behaviours and stabilization mechanisms in slip systems, and multiple toughening mechanisms by dint of two second phase different from each other when spherical ZrO2 and chemically stable Al2O3(W) is respectively added in Al2O3 matrix. To obtain complexshaped components, slip casted bodies were sintered at 1$600^{\circ}C$, 2hrs up to 98~99% R.D.. Multiple toughening mechanisms in comparison with theories reported until now will be discussed as a result of the phase analysis of ZrO2 by athermal behaviours and microstructural characterizations as well as measured mechanical properties.

  • This paper proposed two mechanisms of fixed method and new arrival method. They are all interactive meachanisms in that a SCP and the SSPs exchange load information for overload control. These mechanisms using simple algorithm based on the standard ACG, apply differenct call gapping time on each SSP under the fairness scheme when they allocates SCP capacity to competing demends. Also in the mechanisms, priority scheme is implemented. Two mechanisms show the almost same results on the call throughput. Fairness about the probability of rejection is maintained same value on all SSPs. On Priority scheme, new arrival method has better achievement than fixed method.

  • In the post-genomic era, the mechanisms controlling activation of genes are thought to be more important. Gene-environment interactions are crucial in both development and treatment of psychiatric disorders as they are complex genetic disorders. Epigenetics is defined as a change of gene expression that occurs without a change of DNA sequence and can be heritable by certain mechanisms. Epigenetic changes play essential roles in control of gene activation. DNA methylation, chromatin remodeling and RNAi act as key mechanisms for epigenetic modifications of genes. Here, we review the basic mechanisms of epigenetics and discuss their potential involvement of human diseases, including psychiatric disorders.

  • A spatial 3 degrees-of-freedom mechanism employing Stewart Platform structure is proposed: the mechanism maintains the 3- RRPS structure of Stewart Platform but has an additional passive PRR serial sub-chain at the center area of the mechanism in order to constrain the output motion of the mechanism within the output motion space of the added PRR serial subchain. The forward and reverse position analyses of the mechanism are performed. Then the mechanism having both the forward and the reverse closed-form solutions is suggested and its closed form solutions are derived. It is confirmed, through the kinematic analysis of those two proposed mechanisms via kinematic isotropic index, that both the proposed mechanisms have fairly good kinematic characteristics compared to the existing spatial 3-DOF mechanisms in literature.

  • This paper presents a new formulation of the kinematics of closed-chain mechanisms and its applications to obtaining the kinematic solutions and analyzing the singularities. Closed-chain mechanisms under consideration may have the redundancy in the number of joints. A closed-chain mechanism can be treated as the parallel connection of two open-chains with respect to a point of interest. The kinematics of a closed-chain mechanism is then obtained by imposing the kinematic constraints of the closed-chain on the kinematics of the two open-chains. First, we formulate the kinematics of a closed-chain mechanism using the kinematic constraint between the controllable active joints and the rest of joints, instead of the kinematic constraint between the two open-chains. The kinematic formulation presented in this paper is valid for closed-chain mechanisms with and without the redundancy. Next, based on the derived kinematics of a closed-chain mechanism, we provide the kinematic solutions which are more physically meaningful and less sensitive to numerical instability, and also suggest an effective way to analyze the singularities. Finally, the computational cost associated with the kinematic formulation is analyzed.

  • As every commentators has noted, bureaucratic corruption, which has complicated causes, is prevalent phenomenon in Korean society. Especially, most people realize that systemic corruption has a strong negative effect on society; however, only few studies reflect on the nature of 'systemic corruption' and it seems that no established theory explains the phenomenon. Thus, this study suggest that we look more carefully into the nature and mechanisms of 'systemic corruption'. Interdisciplinary approach based on the integrated model of structure-behavior to analyse the nature of bureaucratic corruption. The system dynamics method can test the mechanisms of 'systemic corruption'. With this way, the factors generating systemic corruption represent the relationships reinforcing and balancing within system dynamics model. This paper also consider 'isomorphism' and 'dominance' as control mechanisms to systemic corruption. From the CLD(Causal Loop Diagram), three main areas(rent in organization, networking, control mechanisms) are overlapped and it indicates dynamic relationships of systemic corruption in organizations.
