유한요소를 이용한 유연성 간극기구의 동적 해석 (Dynamic Analysis of Flexible Mechanisms with Clearances Using Finite Elements)

  • The method of analyzing flexible mechanisms with clearances was studied considering flexibility of beams in the mechanism using finite elements. Both ends of a beam were modeled as free following Dubowsky's impact pair model. Instead some force constraints were imposed at imposed at the connections between adjoining links. Coulomb model has been developed using dry frictions in place of tangential damping forces in the impact pair model and the contact compliance and damping coefficient approximated in a form of root function were used. As examples, impacts of a rigid ball in a cylinder, impact beam model and four-bar mechanisms made up of three flexible links with clearance connections were simulated numerically. The results from examples showed similar but a little bit smaller magnitude of impact forces compared with published studies.

전달각을 고려한 조향기구의 최적합성 (Optimal Synthesis of Steering Mechanisms Considering Transmission Angles)

  • In this study, the optimal synthesis of planar steering mechanisms for vehicles is studied. The author minimized the steering error between two front wheels subject to the constraints of transmission angles. Nonlinear programming methods such as BFGS method and golden section search method are used for this optimization. As numerical examples, Ackermann's steering mechanism, 6-link and 10-link planar mechanism are adopted to check the usefulness of this method. Consequently, among the three optimized mechanisms, 10-link planar one conducts far more accurate performance subject to tight constraints of transmission angles.

  • The dynamic design and evaluation of mechanisms need to be performed in a collaboration or concurrent system in order to shorten the development period of the product. A web-based system is the most suitable concurrent system to promote effective collaboration. In order to develop such a web-based system, Java Applet, which is not restrained by a computer's H/W and S/W, is widely used. This paper introduces a web-based 3D animation system for visualizing the motions of mechanisms. This web-based 3D animation system uses a JAVA Applet program method, which can be operated in a web-browser, and the Open Inventor for Java, which supports 3D graphics. It does not only allows the user to verify dynamic simulation results and design variables through the web, but it also has the advantage of supporting collaboration among a number of users through simultaneous connections.

Compound CVT with K-H-V Differential Gear and V-belt Drive

  • Continuously variable transmission (CVT) mechanisms combine the functions of a K-H-V type differential gear unit and a V-belt type continuously variable unit (CVU). For the 24 different mechanisms, 12 of them are power circulation modes while the other 12 are power split modes. Some useful theoretical formulas related to speed ratio, power flow and efficiency were derived and analyzed. These mechanisms have many advantages: they decrease CVT size and weight, increase overall efficiency, extend speed ratio range, and generate geared neutral. Compound CVTs were developed by combining the power circulation mode and power split mode, which can offer backward motion, geared neutral, underdrive and overdrive.

  • This paper deals with the aspects of meaning of verbal humor that are responsible for eliciting laughs. It is generally accepted that the perception of incongruity is involved in the experience of humor, but few clear definitions or explanations have been given of the nature of this incongruity. Among the few, Curc (1995, 1997, 1998), for example, tries to analyze verbal humor, specifically the relation between a stimulus and the hearer's interpretation of it, in line with the principle of relevance (Spreber and Wilson 1986, 1995). However, as he admits, his account covers only a limited amount of cases. This paper will delve into the meaning of humor with extensive data and present a set of individual mechanisms involved in humor. It will also propose a new conceptual theory of humor that persuasively accounts for the mechanisms of humor as a whole.

Failure mechanisms in coupled poro-plastic medium

  • The presence of the pore fluid strongly influences the reponse of the soil subjected to external loading and in many cases increases the risk of final failure. In this paper, we propose the use of a discrete beam lattice model with the aim to investigate the coupling effects of the solid and fluid phase on the response and failure mechanisms in the saturated soil. The discrete cohesive link lattice model used in this paper, is based on inelastic Timoshenko beam finite elements with enhanced kinematics in axial and transverse direction. The coupling equations for the soil-pore fluid interaction are derived from Terzaghi's principle of effective stresses, Biot's porous media theory and Darcy's law for fluid flow through porous media. The application of the model in soil mechanics is illustrated through several numerical simulations.

Isoflavones: Chemistry, Analysis, Functions and Effects on Health and Cancer

  • Isoflavones are phytoestrogens and natural plant compounds which are similar to 17-${\beta}$-estradiol in chemical structure. It is known that they can act as estrogen agonists or antagonists, depending on endocrine estrogenic levels, but actions of isoflavones are rather complex due to large number of variables such as chemical structures and mechanisms. Some hypotheses on biological mechanisms have not satisfactorily been confirmed to date and human epidemiological and experimental studies have been relatively limited. Nevertheless, isoflavones and isoflavone rich foods have become a focus onf interest due to positive health benefits on many diseases, especially prevention of hormone-related cancers, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, and adverse postmenopausal symptoms, and improvement of physiological condition such as maintaining cognitive function. This review provides an overview of chemistry, analytical techniques (focused on human biospecimens), functions including biological mechanisms, and effects of isoflavones, on the basis of the available meta-analysis and review articles and some original articles, on health and cancer.

  • For the seismic analysis of typical roadway bridges provisions are given in most codes for analysis models, which describes however only fundamental modelling methods according to the basic theories of structural dynamics. In practice even conventional non-seismic analysis models, separate super- and substructure models, are applied, which are not adequate because of neglecting connection elements. In this study three typical roadway bridges, a Steel box bridge, a PC beam bridge and a PC box bridge are selected and simple models integrating super- and substructure as well as connection elements are given. The simple models are composed with frame elements with lumped masses representing stiffness and mass characteristics of the selected bridges. To check the properness of the simple models, analysis results with the simple models are compared with those obtained with detailed models in view of bridge failure mechanisms. It is proved that the simple models can be used in the preliminary design phase fur the determination of failure mechanisms of typical roadway bridges.

차동기어장치를 적용한 출력축 연결방식 무단변속기의 특성해석에 관한 연구 (Characteristics on the Output Coupled Type CVT Combined Differential Gear Unit)

  • Continuously variable transmission(CVT) mechanisms considered here combine the functions of a 2K-H I type differential gear unit and a V-belt continuously variable unit(CVU). One shaft of the V-belt CVU is connected directly to the differential gear unit and remaining shaft of it is linked to the output shaft. These mechanisms have many advantage which are the decrease of CVT size, the increase of overall efficiency, the extension of speed ratio range, and the generation of geared neutral. In this paper six different mechanisms of output coupled type CVT are proposed. Some useful theoretical formula related to speed ratio, power flow and efficiency are derived and analyzed, and theoretical analysis are proven by various experiments.

비탄성 변형이론을 이용한 $Fe_3$Al 금속간화합물의 소성변형 기구 고찰 (A Study of Plastic Deformation Mechanisms in $Fe_3$Al Intermetallics Alloys by Inelastic Deformation Theory)

  • It is well known that Fe3Al intermetallic compound shows an anomalous peak of the yield strength at about 50$0^{\circ}C$ and then decrease at higher temperatures The dislocation structure was examined by transmission electron microscopy and high temperatures. The dislocation structure was examined by transmission electron microscopy and high temperature mechanical properties were examined by tensile and load relaxation tests. The flow stress curves obtained from load relaxation tests were then analyzed in terms of internal variable deformation theory. it was found that the flow curves consisted of three micro-deformation mechanisms -i. e inelastic deformation mode plastic deformation mode and dislocation creep deformation mode depending on both dislocation structure and deformation temperature. The flow curves could be well described by the constitutive equations of these three micro-deformation mechanisms based on the internal variable deformation theory.
