Ni-20Cr-20Fe-5Nb alloy with or without $Y_2O_3$ was manufactured by mechanical alloying process and consolidated by spark plasma sintering (SPS). The grain size of the alloy with $Y_2O_3$ was smaller than that of alloy without $Y_2O_3$ which results from the effect of $Y_2O_3$ suppressing grain growth. The tensile strength at room temperature was increased by the addition of $Y_2O_3$ but decreased abruptly at temperature above $600^{\circ}C$. It seems to result from the change of deformation mechanism due to fine grain size, that is, grain boundary sliding is predominant at above $600^{\circ}C$ while internal dislocation movement is predominant at below $600^{\circ}C$. After conventional heat treatment process of solution treatment and aging, a small amount of ${\delta}(Ni_3Nb)$ phase was formed in Ni-20Cr-20Fe-5Nb alloy while a large amount of ${\gamma}"(Ni_3Nb)$ was formed in Inconel 718 in the previous report. This is due to exhaustion of Nb content by the formation of NbC during consolidation.
In order to investigate the dehydriding properties of the $Mg_2NiH_x$ formed by hydrogen induced mechanical alloying, we performed isothermal thermogravimetry analysis at 453, 463, 473, 483, 493, 503 and 513K for 1 hours. Dehydrogenation kinetics were dependant strongly on the MA conditions which determine the In other words, kinds of synthesized hydrides phases and the crystal microstructures. The MA condition, 66:1 BCR(balls to chips mass ratio), especially 96h milling time, revealed the hydride phases of nano-/ amorphous state and the dehydriding activation energy of $43.4{\pm}3.6kJ/mole$.
Purpose: The selective laser melting (SLM) process for dentistry, which is one of the additive manufacturing technologies (AM) allows for rapid production of a three-dimensional model with complex shape by directly melting metal powder. This process generates detailed items of a three-dimensional model shape through consolidation of a thin powder layer by utilizing both selective melting and laser beam simultaneously. In regard to SLM process, Fe-base powder, Ti-6AI-4V powder, AI-base powder, etc. have been researched. It is believed that the aforementioned technologies will be widely utilized in manufacturing metal parts using metal powder of raw material. This study chose Ni-Cr-Mo metal powder in order to manufacture metal powder materials that would be used in the selective laser melting for dentistry. Methods: This study manufactured metal powder using mechanical alloying technique (MA) among those metal powder manufacturing techniques. Moreover, this study aimed to utilize the metal powder manufactured after observing the characteristics of powder as preliminary data of Ni-Cr-Mo metal powder. This study could obtain the following conclusions within the experimental limitations. Results: As a result of mechanically alloying Ni-Cr-Mo powder over time, its mean particle size was $66.93{\mu}m$$54.4{\mu}m$ and $45.39{\mu}m$ at 10h, 20h and 30h, respectively. The gtain form of metal powder by mechanical alloying technique was a sponge-like shape of irregular plate; however, the gtain form manufactured by high-pressure water aromization process had the following three types: globular type, chain type and oval type. Conclusion: This study found $37.65{\mu}m$ as the mean particle size of Ni-Cr-Mo metal powder, which was manufactured using water atomization technique under the following conditions: water atomization flux of 300 liter/min, hydraulic pressure of $400kgf/cm^2$ and injection angle of $45^{\circ}$. This study confirmed that the grain form of powder (solid particle form) would vary depending on the manufacturing process.
During the process of synthesis of $TiO_2$ powders using a high-speed planetary milling machine, Fe metallic powders were created which could be dissolved in sulfuric acid solution. With adding $NH_4OH$ solution to the $TiO_2$ powder, it was found that the crystal structure of the synthesized powder did not change and the crystal size decreased slightly. However, when the sulfur powder is mixed with $TiO_2$, the crystal structure of the MA powder was changed from anatase into rutile phase and its size decreased significantly which is in the order of nm in diameter. In case of mechanical alloying with $TiO_2$ powder only, the crystal structure of the powder was transformed into rutile phase and its size was greatly reduced into several nm. Because its size becomes fine, the energy band gap of its rutile phase is larger than that of bulk states (3.0eV).
Ni(Fe)Al powders containing a homogeneous distribution of the in-situ formed AIN and $Al_2O_3$ dispersoids have been produced by mechanical alloying process in a controlled atmosphere using high energy attrition mill. The powders have been successfully consolidated by hot extrusion process. The phase information investigated by TEM and XRD analysis reveals that Fe can be soluble up to 20% to the NiAl phase ($\beta$) at room temperature after MA process. Subsequent thermomechanical treatment under specific condition has been tried to induce secondary recrystallization (SRx) to improve high temperature properties, however, the clear evidence of SRx was not obtained in this material. Mechanical properties in term of strength at room temperature as well as at high temperatures have been improved by the addition pf AIN, and the room temperature ductility has been shown to be improved after heat treatment, presumably due to the precipitation of second phase of $\alpha$ in this material.
The present study was carried out to investigate the effect of MA processing variables on the microstructural properties of composite powders and the coefficient of thermal expansion of pulse electric current sintered AlN-Cu powder compacts. The AlN-Cu powders had a size of less than 15 $\mu\textrm{m}$ with 25 nm size of copper crystallite after MA 32 hours. The finely distributed AlN-Cu powder compacts were completely achieved after PECS. The residual oxygen was considerably removed after hydrogen reduction treatment. The residual carbon was completely removed to 97%. The CTE of AlN-Cu powder compacts showed a good consistency with Kingery-Tuner model when the volume fraction of copper was less than 60%. When it was more than 60%, the CTE had a good agreement with Series model.
P-type thermoelectric material $Si_{0.8}Ge_{0.2}$ was sintered by Hot Press process (HP) and the effect of boron ($0.25{\sim}2$ at%) addition on the thermoelectric properties were reported. To enhance the thermoelectric performances, the $Si_{0.8}Ge_{0.2}$, alloys were fabricated by mechanical alloying (MA) and HP. The carrier of p-type SiGe alloy was controlled by B-doping. The effect of sintering condition and thermoelectric properties were investigated. B-doped SiGe alloys exhibited positive seebeck coefficient. The electrical conductivity and thermal conductivity were increased at the small amount of boron content ($0.25{\sim}0.5$ at%). However, they were decreased over 0.5 at% boron content. As a result, the small addition of boron improved the Z value. The Z value of 0.5 at% B doped $Si_{0.8}Ge_{0.2}$ B alloy was $0.9{\times}10{-4}/K$, the highest value among the prepared alloys.
The oxidation behavior and the thermal stability of nanocrystalline Al-25Ti-8Mn intermetallic compound were investigated. $Al_3Ti$ intermetallic compound, which has a potential for high temperature structural material, was fabricated by mechanical alloying(MA) with $8at.\%$ Mn to enhance the thermal stability and ductility. And Al-25Ti-8Mn intermetallic compound was sintered by spark plasma sintering(SPS) at $700^{\circ}C$. After sintering process, cubic $Ll_2$ structure was maintained without phase transformation and the grain size was about 50nm. To investigate the oxidation behavior of the specimens, thermal gravimetric analysis(TGA) was performed at 700, 800, 900, and $1000^{\circ}C$ for 24 h in $O_2$. As the temperature increased from $700^{\circ}C\;to\;900^{\circ}C$ the weight gain of specimens increased. However at $1000^{\circ}C$, unlike the oxidation behavior of $700^{\circ}C\;to\;900^{\circ}C$, the weight gain of specimen decreased drastically and the transition from linear rate region to parabolic rate region occurred rapidly due to the dense $\alpha-Al_2O_3$.
It is possible that hydrogen could replace coal and petroleum as the predominant energy source in the near future, but several challenges including cost, efficiency, and stability. Mg and Mg alloys are attractive hydrogen storage materials because of their lightweight and high absorption capacity. Their range of applications could be further extended if their hydrogenation properties could be improved. The main emphasis of this study was to investigate their hydrogenation properties for Synthesis of 10wt.% CaF2 in Mg2NiHx systems. The effect of BCR (66:1) and MA time (96 hours) on the hydrogenation properties of the composite was investigated. also, Mg2NiHx-10wt% CaF2 composites prepared by Mechanical Alloying are used in this work to illustrate the effect of catalysts on activation energy and kinetics of Magnesium hydride.
