  • LPG is used in the home would have to depend on the provider, because there is no method for measuring the capacitance. In addition, by measuring the gas capacities can not be known because of the LPG gas replacement time and requires an alarm for replacement. In this study, and that the gas capacities to the trusted user and the supplier, in order to know when it is time to change to LPG gas by applying a Hall effect sensor developed a gas capacities measurement the valve system.

  • To improve flow in-cylinder flow in a 2-valve gasoline engine, various geometries of combustion chambers are modified. Air flow rate, swirl and tumble flow are measured and analyzed by swirl impulse meter and LDV in a steady state flow measuring rig. The results of LDV experiment are compared with the data of swirl impulse meter.

  • Electro-rheological(ER) fluid and valve are fabricated and evaluated experimentally in its durability to utilize the hydraulic control systems for long term operation. The two-ports ER valve used in the experiment consist of twelve parallel multi-layer electrodes and provide a restriction to the passage of ER fluid because of the viscous pressure drop and a component induced by the electric field. The durability test of ER valve are performed by measuring the surface roughness of electrodes with variation of an electric field strength and test time(1000 or 1800min.). Also, the shear stress and shear rate are measured to evaluate the durability of ER fluid as function of time. After durability test, ER shear stress increases approximately proportional to the shear rate with applied electric field intensity, In the ER valve, the center line average height roughness(Ra) of copper electrode increases about 1.56 times and ten-point median height roughness(Rz) increases about 2.2 times after the durability test. An understanding of these durability is essential to predicting the service life of ER fluid and valves.

  • In this work, a 6 degree of freedom lumped mass model is constructed for an OHC-type cam valve train analysis, and the model is verified experimentally. Using the verified model, an optimum cam profile is designed to minimize the maximum contact force between cam and follower under the constraints such as cam lift and cam event angle. The designed cam was carefully machined and tested experimentally. As operating the designed cam shaft on the test rig, the valve motion was precisely measured with laser displacement meter and the contact force was indirectly monitored by measuring strain at a certain point of the finger follower. Judging from the model simulation and experiment results, the maximum contact force can be reduced as much as more than 16.7 percent under maintaining the original valve flow area by adopting the optimum cam profile.

  • The air fuel ratios of current gasoline engines are almost controlled by several air flow meters. When CVVT (Continuous Variable Valve Timing) is applied to a gasoline engine for higher engine performance, the MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor is difficult to follow the instantaneous air fuel ratio due to the valve timing effect. Therefore, a HFM (Hot Film Flow Meter) is widely used for measuring intake air flow in this case. However, the HFMs are incapable of indicating to reverse flow, the oscillation of intake air flow has an negative effect on the precision of the HFM. Consequently, the various duct configurations in front of the air flow sensor affect the precision of HFM sensitivity. This paper mainly focused on the analysis of the reverse flow, flow fluctuation in throttle upstream and the geometry of intake system which influence the HFM measurement.

  • Recently, a new method of evaluating left atrial size called vertebral left atrial size (VLAS) was introduced in dogs. Total 155 dogs were examined at the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Chungnam National University. In this study, myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD) stage and VLAS showed a significant correlation in those dogs. Also, the relationship between C-reactive protein (CRP) and VLAS has yet to be examined. We found a strong positive correlation between VLAS and CRP-a significant increase in CRP was observed with increasing VLAS values. Thus, it would be beneficial to measure VLAS besides employing the current radiological and echocardiographic methods when evaluating heart size. Measuring VLAS could be an additional diagnostic tool for diagnosing MMVD in dogs.

  • A PFA lined ball valve, which is machined with fluorinated resin PFA to its inner part for improving corrosion resistance, non-stickness, heat-resistance, has been widely used in semiconductor/LCD manufacturing processes with the high purity chemicals as working fluid. Due to the safety concerns, the experiments for measuring the flow coefficient of a PFA lined ball valve should be conducted with water at room temperature according to IEC standards. However, it is required to know the real flow coefficient with the real working fluid, because the flow coefficient is critical to correctly design valves in piping system. In this study, we calculated the flow coefficient of a PFA lined ball valve 40A with hydrochloric acid ($40^{\circ}C$ 36% HCl) as the working fluid using a commercial CFD package, ANSYS CFX v15. The computational results had a good agreement with the measured data and showed a little difference between water and hydrochloric acid as the working fluid of a PFA lined ball valve.

  • The conventional technique to measure the hysteresis and the null of servo valves is defined in ISO 10770-1 and based on load flow signal of the servo valve. A new technique based on the transmission line pressures is suggested in this study. The new measuring method was verified through a series of experiments. No hysteresis was observed between the spool displacement and the transmission line pressures, load pressure or each chamber pressure. Some hysteresis was observed between valve input and pressures, which was found to be the same as those of load flow and spool displacement for the valve input. By using the chamber pressures, the hysteresis and the null are easier to measure than the load pressure or differential pressure between those two chamber pressures because the chamber pressures showed sharp edges.

  • In this paper, the structure-fluid coupled analysis is carried out in order to examine the cause of the vibration induced by fluid in the pressure-reducing valves for water. It is confirmed that there is the noise at the area of low frequency of 250Hz by measuring noise at pressure reducing valve. The flow analysis is performed by the commercial software ANSYS/CFX. The flow velocity of about 40 m/s is formed by nozzle effect, and so negative pressure is happened in the pressure reducing valve. The structure analysis is carried out with the load condition of pressure distribution by flow formed in valve. The rubber material at disk is deformed to the extent of closing up flow passage. It is confirmed that the disc deformation which is occurred repeatedly is due to noise and vibration at the pressure reducing valve.
