Design of a MEMS sensor array for dam subsidence monitoring based on dual-sensor cooperative measurements

  • With the rapid development of the Chinese water project, the safety monitoring of dams is urgently needed. Many drawbacks exist in dams, such as high monitoring costs, a limited equipment service life, long-term monitoring difficulties. MEMS sensors have the advantages of low cost, high precision, easy installation, and simplicity, so they have broad application prospects in engineering measurements. This paper designs intelligent monitoring based on the collaborative measurement of dual MEMS sensors. The system first determines the endpoint coordinates of the sensor array by the coordinate transformation relationship in the monitoring system and then obtains the dam settlement according to the endpoint coordinates. Next, this paper proposes a dual-MEMS sensor collaborative measurement algorithm that builds a mathematical model of the dual-sensor measurement. The monitoring system realizes mutual compensation between sensor measurement data by calculating the motion constraint matrix between the two sensors. Compared with the single-sensor measurement, the dual-sensor measurement algorithm is more accurate and can improve the reliability of long-term monitoring data. Finally, the experimental results show that the dam subsidence monitoring system proposed in this paper fully meets the engineering monitoring accuracy needs, and the dual-sensor collaborative measurement system is more stable than the single-sensor monitoring system.

  • Since the magnetic bearing system has unstability inherently it is necessary to measure the displacement for stable operation. Normally the displacement measurement is implemented by using sensors. The sensor for the displacement measurement is selected by precision, installation space, effect of magnetic field and response speed. And the cost of displacement measurement sensor also is considered. At the cost the hall effect sensor has a large advantage comparing with the others. Therefore this study concern about the basis experimental test for the displacement measurement of the magnetic bearing system that uses the hall effect sensor coupled with a tiny permanent magnet. The experimental results confirm the validity and practicability for this displacement measurement sensor.

기상측정용 3축 구조의 초소형 와전류 센서 개발 및 평가 (Ultra Miniature Eddy Current Sensor with 3 Axes for On-Machine-Measurement)

  • The OMM(On-Machine-Measurement) system has many advantages compare to conventional measurement in the way the time and cost. But, the sensor suitable to OMM system is restrictive use. Touch trigger probe sensor has long time for measurement and non-contact sensor has directional demerit. Because the long mechanical parts such as gear and lead screw for pump, injector and machine tools has big and heavy, unclamp and transferring for measurement in machining process is very difficult. This paper presents a development of ultra miniature eddy current displacement sensor with 3 axes for On-Machine-Measurement system. The accuracy of the sensor is experimentally proved in the grinding machine. In experimental results, the accuracy has under ${\pm}5\;{\mu}m$.

  • In this paper, we have developed a system for monitoring and processing the real time sensor data in remote site through Internet. For realizing this system, measurement equipment and protocol are used to transmit the measurement data to remote server and to process measurement data. In server part, the received data from remote site sensor is converted to text or graphic charts for user. The measurement device in sensor part receives the sensor data form sensor and store the received data to its internal memory for transmitting data to server part through Internet. Also the measurement device can receive data form server. The temperature sensor is corrected to the measurement device located in laboratory and the measurement device measures temperature of laboratory which can be confirmed by user through Internet. We have developed a server program working on the Linux to store measurement data from measurement device to server memory. The program is use for SNMP(Simple Network Management Protocol) to exchange data with measurement device. Also the program changes the measurement data into text and graphic charts for user display. The program is use apache PHP program for user display and inquiry. The real time temperature measurement system can be applly for many parts of industry and living.

Measurement Allocation by Shapley Value in Wireless Sensor Networks

  • In this paper, we consider measurement allocation problem in a spatially correlated sensor field. Our goal is to determine the probability of each sensor's being measured based on its contribution to the estimation reliability; it is desirable that a sensor improving the estimation reliability is measured more frequently. We consider a spatial correlation model of a sensor field reflecting transmission power limit, noise in measurement and transmission channel, and channel attenuation. Then the estimation reliability is defined distortion error between event source and its estimation at sink. Motivated by the correlation nature, we model the measurement allocation problem into a cooperative game, and then quantify each sensor's contribution using Shapley value. Against the intractability in the computation of exact Shapley value, we deploy a randomized method that enables to compute the approximate Shapley value within a reasonable time. Besides, we envisage a measurement scheduling achieving the balance between network lifetime and estimation reliability.

  • This paper presents an optical surface roughness sensor developed for intermediate- process measurement on the machine. The light scattering method is adopted for the sensor, which is designed conpact and flexible enough to apply to 'on the machine' measurement of surface roughness. The developed sensor has special features such that it makes use, as the measurement parameter, of the ratio between fluxes of the incident light, and the specularly and partly diffusely reflected light, and that it can adjust the incident light angle. The experimental investigation reveals not only the sensor has good performance as a surface roughness sensor but the sensor is very robust so as to be useful in in-process measurement.

  • This study was conducted to develop a grain moisture content measurement sensor for automatic control of rough rice drying by natural air. For the above objective, the electrod type sensor was designed and tested. The sensor was able to produce electrical resistance which changes with moisture content of grain. An A/D converter and a micro-computer wed for processing measurement data of sensor. The developed sensor satisfied most design requirements and the results of statistical analysis show that there it no difference between the measurement method of sensor developed and of the dry-oven. Using the developed sensor and measurement system, we are able to measure moisture content of rough rice automatically in drying by natural air.

  • In this paper, we proposed a non-contact respiration measurement system with ultrasonic proximity sensor. Ultrasonic proximity sensor approach of respiration measurement which respiration signatures and rates can be derived in real-time for long-term monitoring is presented. 240 kHz ultrasonic sensor has been applied for the proposed measurement system. The time of flight of sound wave between the transmitted signal and received signal have been used for a respiration measurement from abdominal area. Respiration rates measured with the ultrasonic proximity sensor were compared with those measured with standard techniques on 5 human subjects. Accurate measurement of respiration rate is shown from the 50 cm measurement distance. The data from the method comparison study is used to confirm the performance of the proposed measurement system. The current version of respiratory rate detection system using ultrasonic can successfully measure respiration rate. The proposed measurement method could be used for monitoring unconscious persons from a relatively close range, avoiding the need to apply electrodes or other sensors in the correct position and to wire the subject to the monitor. Monitoring respiration using ultrasonic sensor offers a promising possibility of non-contact measurement of respiration rates. Especially, this technology offers a potentially inexpensive implementation that could extend applications to consumer home-healthcare and mobile-healthcare products. Further advances in the sensor design, system design and signal processing can increase the range of the measurement and quality of the rate-finding for broadening the potential application areas of this technology.

  • In this paper, we proposed a wearable respiration measurement system with textile capacitive pressure sensor. Belt typed textile capacitive pressure sensor approach of respiration measurement, from which respiration signatures and rates can be derived in real-time for long-term monitoring, are presented. Belt typed textile capacitive pressure sensor has been developed for this measurement system. the distance change of two plates by the pressure of motion has been used for the respiration measurement in chest area. Respiration rates measured with the textile capacitive pressure sensor was compared with standard techniques on 8 human subjects. Accurate measurement of respiration rate with developed sensor system is shown. The data from the method comparison study is used to confirm theoretical estimates of change in capacitance by the distance change. The current version of respiratory rate detection system using textile capacitive pressure sensor can successfully measure respiration rate. It showed upper limit agreement of $3.7997{\times}10^{-7}$ RPM, and lower limit of agreement of $-3.8428{\times}10^{-7}$ RPM in Bland-Altman plot. From all subject, high correlation were shown(p<0.0001). The proposed measurement method could be used to monitor unconscious persons, avoiding the need to apply electrodes to the directly skin or other sensors in the correct position and to wire the subject to the monitor. Monitoring respiration using textile capacitive pressure sensor offers a promising possibility of convenient measurement of respiration rates.
