Modal testing requires measuring the vibration of many points, for which an accelerometer, a gab sensor and laser vibrometer are generally used. Conventional modal testing requires mounting of these sensors to all measurement points in order to acquire the signals. However, this can be disadvantageous because it requires considerable measurement time and effort when there are many measurement points. In this paper, we propose a method for modal testing using a camera image. A camera can measure the vibration of many points at the same time. However, this task requires that the measurement points be classified frame by frame. While it is possible to classify the measurement points one by one, this also requires much time. Therefore, we try to classify multiple points using pattern recognition. The feasibility of the proposed method is verified by a beam experiment. The experimental results demonstrate that we can obtain good results.

In most shipyards, the measurement of 3-dimensional relative position of pipes should be connected in the block depends on the manual operation. It results a very tedious and inefficient procedure, thus the proper measurement system is needed to improve productivity and accuracy. This paper describes the development results of pipe measurement system including system concepts, measuring procedures, system calibration, and its accuracy and productivity. And also, the possibility and things to be improved for application in shipyard are discussed in this paper.

The objective of this research is to develop an effective inspection planning strategy for sculpture surfaces in OMM(On-Machine Measurement) process. As a first step, effective measuring point locations are determined to obtain optimum results for given sampling numbers. Two measuring point selection methods are suggested in this study based on newly proposed CAD/CAM/CAI integration concept: (1) by the prediction of cutting errors, (2) by considering cutter contact points to avoid the measurement errors caused by cusps. As a next step, the TSP(Traveling Salesman Problem)algorithm is applied to minimize the probe moving distance. Appropriate simulations and experiments are performed to verify the proposed inspection planning strategy in this study, and the results are analyzed.

In this paper, a new nano/micro-mechanical processing test machine was developed. This new test machine, which is based on the principle of the scanning force controlled probe microscope, can realize nano/micro-mechanical machining and in-process profile measurement. Experimental results of nano/micro indentation and scratching show that the controllable cutting depth of the test machine can be controlled by PZT actuator. Profile measurement of the machined surface has also been performed by using the test machine and a conventional AFM(Atomic Force Microscopy). A good agreement of the two measurement results have been achieved.
This paper shows the development process for measuring three-dimensional flow velocity components in a web-browser. The system is developed in an embeddable C/C++ interpreter Ch and Ch-CGI toolkit. The interface for the web-based measurement system consists of a set of web HTML files and Ch files for CGI. All of data in web browser are passed to Ch-CGI script to generate the output of new HTML file. PC-Server and PC-Client can submit measurement parameters and receive the text/graphical results each other. PC-Client can control the test equipment by using a parameters that received from PC-Server. It also can pass the test results between the web-based measurement system. In summary, the designed measurement system is evaluated, the outputs shown well on the web browser.
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Regulatory Guide 1.20 needs to perform a comprehensive vibration assessment program for reactor internals during preoperational and startup testing for nuclear power plants and extended power uprate. Although the measurement program is one of the core programs, it is rarely carried out except for a first-of-a-kind or a unique design. This article describes measurement results of vibration and stress for the comprehensive vibration assessment program for an APR-1400 reactor internals. The measurement was performed at an upper guide structure during the pre-core hot functional test of Shin Kori unit 4 reactor internals because the Shin Kori unit 3 and 4 are the first construction project for the APR-1400, and the upper guide structure assembly was to design change compared with the valid prototype. We confirmed that all measured results are within the test acceptance criteria. It means that the structural integrity of the APR-1400 reactor internals was secured for the flow-induced vibration.

A model system has been established for the evaluation of the uncertainty of the value from measurements of multiple subsamples by isotope dilution mass spectrometry (IDMS). In this report, we apply this model system for the evaluation of measurement uncertainty in determination of folic acid in infant formula. Five subsamples were analyzed by IDMS. The mean of the measurement results of the five subsamples was assigned as the final measurement value. The standard deviation (s) of the results from five subsamples was attributable to repeatability of the measurement. The uncertainty components in the IDMS measurement methods were categorized into two groups. Group I includes uncertainty components which give common systematic effects to all subsamples and do not contribute to the variation among multiple measurements (repeatability). Group II includes uncertainty components that give random effects on the measurement results, and are related with the measurement repeatability. These random effects are attributed to s. Therefore, the uncertainty of the final value was calculated by combining the standard deviation of the mean of multiple measurements, $s/{\surd}n$ (where n = 5), and the measurement uncertainty associated with the uncertainty components that give systematic effects.

Strontium (Sr) commonly exists in rock, groundwater, soil, plants, and animals. The Sr isotope ratio offers important information as a tracer on nature because the Sr isotopic composition is not fractionated by any biological process in these ecosystems. Hence, Sr isotope ratio has been used in several studies on tracing the Sr source for contaminated sites and human migration. In this study, we developed a separation method for Sr content, and then improved Sr isotope analysis using multi-collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (MC-ICP-MS). A powdered rock standard (NIST 2710a) was used to determine the removal of interference elements (Rb and Ca) and the recovery rate of Sr content. The results ranged from 98% to 106%. Additionally, three standard samples (NBS 987, IAPSO and NIST 1486) were analyzed to evaluate the precision and accuracy of the results. The measured $^{87}Sr/^{86}Sr$ ratio for all the samples were consistent with the reported values, within an error. These results indicate that our established Sr separation and Sr isotope measurement methods are reliable and can hence be useful in the fields of environmental and forensic sciences.

The objective of this research is to develop a measurement error compensation method for On-Machine Measurement (OMM) process based on a closed-loop configuration. Geometric errors of vertical machining center are measured using ball-bar system, and probing errors are measured using master ball. The errors are represented using homogeneous trans-formation matrices and the closed-loop configuration method is applied to calculate 3-dimensional errors. To verify the effectiveness of the method proposed in this research, compensated results are compared to the data using CMM process, and the results are analyzed. The results show the proposed method can be applied in OMM process to make the measured data more reliable.

Speckle interferometry with phase-shifting method has been applied to measurement of micro-scale displacement through optical signal processing. Four-step phase-shifting method by PZT is used to measure out-of-plane displacement in spot-welded cantilever and results of optical experiments are comparable to those of FEM. Phase-shifting method using Fourier transform by PZT is applied to measurement of in-plane displacement on rectangular steel plate with a circular hole. The results of optical experiment agree well with theoretical calculation. New phase-shifting method in speckle interferometry has been implemented with a quarter wave plate. In-plane displacement of specimen is measured by the new phase-shifting method. Results of optical experiment show that the quarter wave plate can be used for phase-shifting method that is cheap and easy to use in speckle interferometry.
