  • Trapezoidal corrugated plates are often treated as orthotropic plates to simplify the modelling of the corrugation. However, this simplification is not valid at high frequencies in which the localized vibration within the parts of corrugation takes place. In this study, the vibrational and acoustical characteristics of corrugated plates are investigated up to high frequencies by means of the wavenumber domain numerical approach. Based on the findings from this numerical analysis, an approximate method to predict vibro-acoustic characteristics of corrugated plates is proposed. This approximate model consists of four equivalent plates which can represent global and local behaviours of corrugated plates. The radiation efficiency of corrugated plates is predicted from the approximate model and validated through the comparison with those of the numerical method.

  • In this paper, we propose a new method for improving compression efficiency of immersive video using reinforcement learning. Immersive video means a video that a user can directly experience, such as 3DOF+ videos and Point Cloud videos. It has a vast amount of information due to their characteristics. Therefore, lots of compression methods for immersive video are being studied, and generally, a method, which projects an 3D image into 2D image, is used. However, in this process, a region where information does not exist is created, and it can decrease the compression efficiency. To solve this problem, we propose the reinforcement learning-based filling method with considering the characteristics of images. Experimental results show that the performance is better than the conventional padding method.

  • Purpose - This study introduces a methodology for finding the optimal tracking error of active stock funds. Tracking error is commonly used in risk budgeting techniques as a concept of cost for alpha creation. Design/methodology/approach - This study uses a post-optimal smart beta portfolio that maximizes alpha under the given tracking error constraint. Findings - As a result of the analysis, the smart beta strategy that maximized alpha under the constraint of 0.15% daily tracking error shows the highest IR. This means the maximum theoretically achievable efficiency. In this regard, a fixed-effect panel regression analysis is conducted to evaluate the active efficiency of domestic stock funds. In addition to control variables based on previous studies, the effect of tracking error on alpha is analyzed. The alpha used in this model is calculated using the smart beta portfolio according to the size of the constraint of the tracking error as a benchmark. Contrary to theoretical estimates, in Korea, the alpha performance is maximized under a daily tracking error of 0.1%. This indicates that the active efficiency of domestic equity funds is lower than the theoretical maximum. Research implications or Originality - Based on this study, it is expected that it can be used for active risk management of pension funds and performance evaluation of active strategies.

  • The optical properties of the materials composing organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) are considered when designing the optical structure of OLEDs. Optical design is related to the optical properties, such as the efficiency, emission spectra, and color coordinates of OLED devices because of the microcavity effect in top-emitting OLEDs. In this study, the properties of top-emitting blue OLEDs were optimized by adjusting the thicknesses of the thin metal layer and capping layer (CPL). Deep blue emission was achieved in an OLED structure with a second cavity length, even when the transmittance of the thin metal layer was high. The thin metal film thickness ranges applicable to OLEDs with a second microcavity structure are wide. Instead, the thickness of the thin metal layer determines the optimized thickness of the CPL for high efficiency. A thinner metal layer means that higher efficiency can be obtained in OLED devices with a second microcavity structure. In addition, OLEDs with a thinner metal layer showed less color change as a function of the viewing angle.

  • This study was carried out to find the optimal condition to treat refractory organic matter which can’t treat clearly with biological treatment and to find the optimal division dosage and division dose timing in the modification of Fenton oxidation which is used resolve the problem that hydrogen peroxide is too expensive. The results are following; 1. The highest TOC removal efficiency was 41% and color removal efficiency was 64% when the dilution magnitude of leachate is fold. This suggests that dilution is efficiency when high concentration of leachate is treated. 2. The removal efficiency of TOC and color increased up to the molar ratio between ferrate and hydrogen peroxide was 1:1. However above that ratio, removal efficiency hardly increased. The highest removal efficiency of TOC and color were 38% and 71% when the mole ratio of ferrate to hydrogen peroxide was 1.5:1. 3. When the mole ratio between ferrate and hydrogen peroxide was fixed, the removal efficiency of TOC and color increased as the dosage of hydrogen peroxide increased. 4. pH of samples were adjusted at pH 3, 5, 7, 9, 11. After oxidation reaction, pH of samples were dropped to 2.59, 2.54, 5.34, 6.36 and 9.68. The highest color removal efficiency was 75.7% when initial pH was at pH 7. 5. The removal of TOC and color was ended within 10. min. and the removal efficiency increased logarithmically within 10min. However after 10 min., the removal efficiency of hardly increased. 6. The color removal efficiency was higher with modification of fentone oxidation than that with fentone oxidation by 5%. Optimal division dosage ratio was 1:1 and optimal dose timing ratio was 2:1. However the TOC removal efficiency was not higher with modification of Fenton oxidation than that with Fenton oxidation.7. The CO $D_{Mn}$ /BO $D_{5}$ Ratio decreased with the time went by. It meant bioresolution increased as time went by. However, after 15 min., the CO $D_{Mn}$ /BO $D_{5}$ Ratio did not decrease any more. 8. In the case of $H_2O$$_2$ Divisiom Dose experiment, the increase of bioresolution was highest at the $H_2O$$_2$ Division dosage Ratio of 3:7.3:7.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the efficiency of resident companies in port hinterland logistics that are currently operating. The subjects of the efficiency analysis include 13 logistics hinterland resident companies in Incheon Port and Busan Port. Investment amounts, area, and number of employees were selected as input variables, and volume and sales amounts were selected as output variables. As for the efficiency analysis methods, traditional CCR and BCC models were applied. To overcome the limits of these models, a super-efficiency model and a Super-SBM model were also applied. According to the super-efficiency model analysis, the mean was 0.777 and the standard deviation was 0.54, indicating an approximate 33% difference of efficiency among the companies. According to the Super-SBM model analysis, the mean was 0.649 and the standard deviation was 0.489. When considering residuals in the super-efficiency model, the average efficiency score among the companies decreased by approximately 13%. This means that the efficiency score decrease of DMU, where non-radial residuals exist at about 18% on average. Examining the inefficiency of the inputs, the inefficiency of the number of employees turned out to be largest at -45%, compared to 'area' at -33% and 'investment amount' at -33%.

  • The objective of this study was to select world top 20 major container terminals that belong to Korea and China as comparison units to analyze their efficiency and productivity trend. Super Efficiency Data Envelopment Analysis(SE-DEA) and Malmquist Productivity Index(MPI) models were applied to this study. Compared with previous studies, we narrowed down the scope of the comparison units to terminals and conducted more detailed analysis to present more meaningful implications to the actual operation. The different result from existing studies, SE-DEA analysis implied that the major terminals of Busan New Port showed similar efficiency and productivity with China's terminals. In MPI analysis, the average index of Korean and China's terminals is 1.051 and 1.049. The analysis indicates that the productivity was improved 5.1% and 4.9% annually. From 2012 to 2015, the average terminal TCI index of South Korea and China were 1.032 and 1.0318-the main factor which influences MPI. This means improving productivity mainly rely on investment in new equipment and technology upgrades rather than improve operational efficiency over the past few years. Future management decisions should consider more aggressive marketing to increase the volume and improve operational efficiency to enhance productivity. Further research should apply the overall efficiency of the methodology considering the financial diversification, terminal capacity, service levels, and other factors.

  • Due to climate change, coastal areas are being flooded with torrential rain, typhoons, and tsunamis. In addition, non-point source pollutants (NPSs) that accumulated on the ground, streets, and buildings during the dry season are washed off by rain and stormwater runoff, which adds to the damage associated with environmental pollution, e.g., pollution that makes its way into the ocean. Recently, low impact development (LID) has been considered as a means of controlling water circulation and NPSs. In the coastal area, permeable blocks have been constructed mainly to reduce the flood damage caused by waves. Some important design factors that must be considered to ensure long-term performance are the permeability coefficient, clogging, and the efficiency of the removal of total suspended solids (TSS), but currently there are no standardized design criteria or testing techniques that are used worldwide. Herein, we analyzed the permeability coefficient and the TSS removal efficiency tendency according to the permeability area ratio with an easily-detachable, permeable block filled with calcinated yellow soils as the filter media. Our lab-scale tests indicated that, when the permeability area ratio was 25%, the reduction of the permeability coefficient after clogged was 11%, which was a significant decrease compared to other cases. Permeability persistence increased when the permeability area ratio increased from 50% to 75%. The TSS removal efficiency decreased as the permeability area ratio increased. Our pilot-scale test indicated that the TSS removal efficiency was more than 80% higher in all cases. We also found that the permeability persistence was excellent as the permeability area ratio increased, and, in actual construction, it is effective to set 5.3% of the total area as permeable area in terms of permeability and economic feasibility.

  • In the low level radioactivity measurement, such as environmental radioactivity, there were used commonly cylindrical and Marinelli type beakers by means of measurement container. If there are differences in the matrix density or sample height between standard source and sample, it must be determined full energy peak efficiency considering self absorption effect. In this paper, we compared measured efficiency with calculated full energy peak efficiencies in the HPGe detector using the Monte Carlo method. For cylindrical container, we calculated the variation of the efficiency with sample height. Also, we calculated the variation of the detection efficiency with apparent density in the cylindrical and Marinelli container. It was seen that it need to be corrected for self absorption in the energy range of below 1000keV. Also, in order to verify the validity of calculation, we compared the calculated value with reference value using NIST SRM 4353 reference soil.

  • Currently an increase in domestic sewage and industrial wastewater causes serious water pollution in Korea. To solve water pollution problems, conventional activated sludge (CAS) system is generally used in wastewater treatment plant but this process is so ineffective in nitrogen and phosphorus. Even if CAS system is the major process, it must be improved instantly so as to remove nitrogen and phosphorus. Otherwise, the serious water pollution problems can't be resolved with CAS system. Therefore this study focused on the comparison of the treatment characteristics between ASA system and CAS system. And also the mass balance of each process of ASA system. The results from operating advanced step aeration (ASA) system indicated that the removal efficiency of BOD, COD, and SS was 89.9%, 74.5%, and 89.0% respectively. In comparison, the removal efficiency of BOD, COD, and SS for CAS system was 89.5%, 71.8%, and 89.5% respectively. In addition to the results, the TN removal efficiency of ASA system was 76.5% comparing to 32.7% of CAS system. It was concluded that the TN removal efficiency of ASA system was 44% higher than CAS system. And the TP removal efficiency was 81.4% in ASA system comparing to 25.2% in CAS system. It also means that over 56% of TP was removed in ASA system comparing to CAS system.
