  • The purpose of this study was to examine the characteristics of prosody of utterance of ambiguous sentences in patients with neurogenic communication disorders. Ambiguous words on which prosody may have an impact were used to investigate this matter. The characteristics of tone duration, pitch and intensity were analyzed to examine the characteristics of prosody in patients with lesions in the left or right hemisphere and normal controls. The whole process was recorded using a Praat 4.3.14 and for statistical analyses, two-way Anova and multiple comparative analyses were carried out using SPSS10.0 for Windows. The conclusions of this study are as follows: The length of vowel in homograph in Korean was different depending on the meaning and the duration of vowel was the longest in patients with lesions in the left hemisphere. There was agreed that they had problem of timing of prosody(Danly & Shapiro, 1982). On the other hand, there found that patients with lesions in the right hemisphere had deficiency of changeability in pitch. Among various acoustic parameters, this study focused on the duration which are closely related to suprasegmental characteristics of prosody. More acoustic parameters should be taken into account in future studies.

  • This paper describes a preliminary work on prosody modeling aspect of a text-to-speech system for Thai. Specifically, the model is designed to predict symbolic markers from text (i.e., prosodic phrase boundaries, accent, and intonation boundaries), and then using these markers to generate pitch, intensity, and durational patterns for the synthesis module of the system. In this paper, a novel method for annotating the prosodic structure of Thai sentences based on dependency representation of syntax is presented. The goal of the annotation process is to predict from text the rhythm of the input sentence when spoken according to its intended meaning. The encoding of the prosodic structure is established by minimizing speech disrhythmy while maintaining the congruency with syntax. That is, each word in the sentence is assigned a prosodic feature called strength dynamic which is based on the dependency representation of syntax. The strength dynamics assigned are then used to obtain rhythmic groupings in terms of a phonological unit called foot. Finally, the foot structure is used to predict the durational pattern of the input sentence. The aforementioned process has been tested on a set of ambiguous sentences, which represents various structural ambiguities involving five types of compounds in Thai.

  • Objective : I would like to study the relationship between the theory of 'Lock, Door and Axis' with the principal of following to the 'Tip, Root and Middle qi' in Huang-Di-Nei-Jing. It can be analysed from the relativeness among the sentences to appearing in Shang-Han-Lun. And consider the theoretical relationship of the two books. Method : First, I search out the exact meaning of 'Lock, Door and Axis' theory. Second, The principal of following to the 'Tip, Root and Middle qi' is closely associated with 'Lock, Door and Axis' theory. Third, I would like to prove that the several sentence in the Shang-Han-Lun are closely related to the Huang-Di-Nei-Jing. Result : Zhang Zhong-jing's Shang-Han-Lun quote a theoretical basis in the Huang-Di-Nei-Jing. Furthermore, it extensively quote to explan a disease and treatment, and so on. Conclusion : It is necessary to study hard the Huang-Di-Nei-Jing for understand clearly the sentences of Shang-Han-Lun. I think that Huang-Di-Nei-Jing have a decisive effect on the Zhang Zhong-jing's thinking to the disease and his medical theory.

  • Deaccentuation' means the phenomenon that the accent on the particular element which deserves to be accented, disappears and loses the property of intonational prominence. Based on some theoretical background, we divided the cases where deaccentuation can be placed into six categories : the first, the case that the words already mentioned are repeated in the context; the second, the case that the element can be recovered anaphorically or situationally; the third, the case that the elements are semantically weightless; the fourth, the case that the meaning of the word is empty; the fifth, the case that the elements are less informative, so that they are easy to predict; the sixth, the case that the elements are located after the focused words. Then we organized the context and the experimental sentences corresponding to each category. The utterances of Korean and English native speakers were recorded and analysed based on the ToBI system and compared to each other, in order to find out that Korean speakers can distinguish the difference within each sentence pair, and produce them with appropriate intonation similar to that of native speakers.

  • As technology advances, the amount of fake news is increasing more and more by various reasons such as political issues and advertisement exaggeration. However, there have been very few research works on fake news detection, especially which uses grammatical transformation on deep neural network. In this paper, we shall present a new Fake News Detection Model, called FAGON(Fake news detection model using Grammatical transformation On deep Neural network) which determines efficiently if the proposition is true or not for the given article by learning grammatical transformation on neural network. Especially, our model focuses the Korean language. It consists of two modules: sentence generator and classification. The former generates multiple sentences which have the same meaning as the proposition, but with different grammar by training the grammatical transformation. The latter classifies the proposition as true or false by training with vectors generated from each sentence of the article and the multiple sentences obtained from the former model respectively. We shall show that our model is designed to detect fake news effectively by exploiting various grammatical transformation and proper classification structure.

  • Sometimes, literary therapy is to create an abscission layer at the mind and remove the signifier of love, by the abscission layer. The purpose of this study is to reveal the mechanism of literary therapy by mutation in human-created sentences and to activate literary therapy. In Gosijo, the abscission layer of Seo Gyeongdok's mind is present in the layer of the "falling leaf" of the his Sijo's last sentence, and the abscission layer of Hwang Jin-yi's mind exists in the layer of the "falling leaf" of the her Sijo's last sentence. The "falling leaf" created by the abscission layer of Seo Gyeongdok's sentence acts as an action potential to the nervous system of Hwang Jin-yi. In Hwang Jin-yi's Sijo, the abscission layer is also activated, forming a "leaf". Hwang Jin-yi's Sijo constructs a new sensory layer that is extended and mutated more than the meaning of space between lines of Seo Gyeongdok's Sijo. In her Sijo, Hwang Jin-yi twists and twists Seo Gyeongdok's sentences to squeeze the sound. She accepts the Seo Gyeongdok's sentences and twists in the first sentence and twists out of the second sentence once more to produce the mutation in the last sentence. As a result of her sentence twist, Seo Kyung-duk's visual sense of "falling leaf" is mutated into a "falling leaf's sound" of auditory sense. This mutation process works as a healing mechanism in the human body. If this study will continue in the future, it will be possible to activate literary therapy by Sijo.

  • I try to formalize the system of modal logic and interpret it in view of constructivism through this study. As to the meaning of a sentence, as we saw, Frege endorsed extensions in view of the fact that they are enough to provide for a compositional account for truth, in particular that (1) the assignment of extensions to expressions is compositional ; (2) the assignment of extensions to sentences coincides with the assignment of truth values. But nobody would be willing to admit that a truth value is what a sentence means and that consequently all true sentences are synonymous. So, if what we are after is meaning in the intuitive sense, then extensions would not do. This consideration has later become the point of departure of modal and intensional semantics. So, it is clear that the language of modal logic do not allow for an extensional interpretation. ${\square}$ is syntactically on a par with ${\vdash}$, hence within the extensional framework it would have to denote a unary truth function. This means that if modal logic is to be interpreted, we need a semantics which is not extensional. The first attempt to build a feasible intensional semantics was presented by Saul Kripke. He came to the conclusion that we must let sentences denote not truth values, but rather subsets of a given set. He called elements of the underlying set possible world. Hence each sentence is taken to denote the set of those possible world in which it is true. This lets us explicate necessity as 'truth in every possible world' and possibility as 'truth in at least one possible world'. But it is clear that the system of modal logic is not only an enlargement of propositional logic, as long as the former contains the new symbols, but that it is of an other nature. In fact, the modal logic is intensional, in that the operators do not determine the functions of truth any more. But this new element is not given a priori, but a posteriori from construction by logicist.

  • We implemented a system being able to suggest example sentences for multiple choice tests, considering the level of students. To build the system, we designed an automatic method for sentence generation, which made it possible to control the difficulty degree of questions. For the proper evaluation in the multiple choice tests, proper size of question pools is required. To satisfy this requirement, a system which can generate various and numerous questions and their example sentences in a fast way should be used. In this paper, we designed an automatic generation method using a linguistic resource called WordNet. For the automatic generation, firstly, we extracted keywords from the existing sentences with the morphological analysis and candidate terms with similar meaning to the keywords in Korean WordNet space are suggested. When suggesting candidate terms, we transformed the existing Korean WordNet scheme into a new scheme to construct the concept similarity matrix. The similarity degree between concepts can be ranged from 0, representing synonyms relationships, to 9, representing non-connected relationships. By using the degree, we can control the difficulty degree of newly generated questions. We used two methods for evaluating semantic similarity between two concepts. The first one is considering only the distance between two concepts and the second one additionally considers positions of two concepts in the Korean Wordnet space. With these methods, we can build a system which can help the instructors generate new questions and their example sentences with various contents and difficulty degree from existing sentences more easily.

  • In this paper, we propose a new method to select colors representing the meaning of text contents based on the cognitive relation between words and colors, Our method is designed on the previous study revealing the existence of crucial words to estimate the colors associated with the meaning of text contents, Using the associative probability of each color with a given word and the strength of color association of the word, we estimate the probability of colors associated with a given text. The goal of this study is to propose a system to recommend the cognitively plausible colors for the meaning of the input text. To build a versatile and efficient database used by our system, two psychological experiments were conducted by using news site articles. In experiment 1, we collected 498 words which were chosen by the participants as having the strong association with color. Subsequently, we investigated which color was associated with each word in experiment 2. In addition to those data, we employed the estimated values of the strength of color association and the colors associated with the words included in a very large corpus of newspapers (approximately 130,000 words) based on the similarity between the words obtained by Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA). Therefore our method allows us to select colors for a large variety of words or sentences. Finally, we verified that our system cognitively succeeded in proposing the colors associated with the meaning of the input text, comparing the correct colors answered by participants with the estimated colors by our method. Our system is expected to be of use in various types of situations such as the data visualization, the information retrieval, the art or web pages design, and so on.

  • The meaning of zero as a number signifying nothing is introduced as a number 1 less than 1 in the first grade mathematics textbook. In addition, the first appearance of the properties of zero are described by exemplary situations of adding zero, subtracting zero, and multiplying by zero in the first and second grade mathematics textbooks. The meaning and the properties of 0, however, are not explicitly dealt with any longer in the follow-up learning. In this study, we discuss the way of introducing zero and the applications of the properties of zero for solving number sentences so that they could help elementary school students understand the meaning and the properties of zero. Based on these results, we suggest some educational implications on teaching and learning mathematics of zero.
