  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the shear bond strength between various commercial all-ceramic system core and veneering ceramics, and evaluate the clinical stability by comparing the conventional metal ceramic system. The test samples were divided into three groups: Ni-Cr alloy (metal bond), yttria-stabilized, tetragonal zirconia polycrystal (Y-TZP) (zirconia bond), lithium disilicate (lithium disilicate bond). The veneering porcelain recommended by the manufacturer for each type of material was fired to the core. After firing, the specimens were subjected to shear force in a universal testing machine. Load was applied at a crosshead speed of 0.50 mm/min until failure. Average shear strengths (mega pascal) were analyzed with a one-way analysis of variance and the Tukey test (${\alpha}$=0.05). The mean shear bond strength${\pm}$SD in MPa was $44.79{\pm}2.31$ in the Ni-Cr alloy group, $28.32{\pm}4.41$ in the Y-TZP group, $15.91{\pm}1.39$ in the Lithium disilicate group. The ANOVA showed a significant difference among groups (p<0.05). None of the all-ceramic system core and veneering ceramics could attain the high bond strength values of the metal ceramic combination.

  • This paper proposes a novel airfoil named "KA2" for the blade of the wind turbine systems. Dynamic loads characteristics are analyzed and compared using aerodynamic data of ten airfoils including the proposed airfoil. The blade is divided into the sixteen elements in the longitudinal direction of the blade for applying the Blade Element Method Theory (BEMT) method, and in each element, torque, thrust, and pitching moment are calculated using turbulent time varying wind speed and aerodynamic data of each wing. Additionally, each force and torque is accumulated in the whole region of the blade for the estimation of representative values. The magnitude of such forces is comparatively analyzed for different airfoils. The angle of attack is constant below the rated wind speed due to the fact that the tip speed ratio is kept at the constant value, and it increases in the region of over rated wind speed as the tip speed ratio decreasing with constant rated rpm and increasing wind speed. Such increase in the angle of attack causes the changes of the force acting on the airfoil with different characteristics of lift and drag in the stall region of each different airfoil. Even though the mean wind speed is in the rated speed in a given time, because of the turbulence, it has either the over rated or under rated speed most of the time. Furthermore, the dynamic properties of each force are analyzed in this rated wind speed in order to objectively understand the dynamic properties of the blades which are designed based on the different airfoils. These dynamic properties are also compared by the standard deviation of time varying characteristics. Moreover, the output characteristics of the wind turbine are investigated with different airfoils and wind speeds. Based on these investigations, it was revealed that the proposed airfoil (KA2) is well applicable to the blade with passive pitch control system.

  • Purpose: Direct splinting material should have high flexural strength to withstand force during mastication and low modulus of elasticity to provide some movement while force applied for relief of stress. The purpose of this study was to compare flexural strength and modulus of elasticity of several resinous splinting materials. Materials and Methods: Four materials; Super-Bond C&B, G-FIX, G-aenial Universal Flo, FiltekTM Z350 XT; were used in this study. Fifteen rectangular bar specimens of each material were prepared. Three-point bending test were performed to determine physical properties. Maximum load at fracture was recorded and flexural strength and modulus of elasticity were calculated. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Scheffe's tests at a 0.05 level of significance were conducted on all test results. Results: Statistical analysis reveals that Super-Bond C&B had significant low mean value for flexible strength and the other three materials showed no significant difference. For modulus of elasticity, Super-Bond C&B exhibited statistically lower modulus of elasticity. G-FIX presented intermediate result, showing statistically higher modulus of elasticity than Super-Bond C&B but lower than G-aenial Universal Flo and FiltekTM Z350 XT. There was no significant difference on modulus of elasticity between G-aenial Universal Flo and FiltekTM Z350 XT. Conclusion: Using a G-FIX, the newly commercially available splinting material, which shows higher fracture resistance properties comparable to flowable and restorative composite resin and a relatively flexible nature might be a beneficial for stabilizing teeth mobility.

  • This paper proposes a new power minimization technique for the frame-based multimedia signal processing. The derivation of the technique is based on the newly proposed microscopic DVS(Dynamic Voltage Scaling) method, where, the operating frequency and the supply voltage levels are dynamically controlled according to the processing requirement for each frame of multimedia data. The multimedia signal processing algorithms are also redesigned and optimized to maximize the power saving efficiency of the microscopic DVS technology. The characterization of the mean/variance distribution of the processing load in the frame-based multimedia signal processing provides the major basis not only for the optimized application of the microscopic DVS technology but also for the optimization of the multimedia algorithms. The power saying efficiency of the proposed DVS approach is experimentally tested with the algorithms of MPEG-2 video decoder and MPEG-2 AAC audio encoder on the ARM9 RISC processor. The experimental results with the diverse MPEG-2 video and audio files show The average power saving efficiencies of 50$\%$ and 30$\%$, respectively. The results also agree very well with those of the analytic derivations.

  • Polychlorinated biphenyls(PCBs) are halogenated aromatic compounds with the empirical formula $C_{12}$ $H_{10-n}$C $l_{n}$(n=1~10), and are a mixture of possible 209 different chlorinated congeners. PCBs were widely used as dielectric fluids for capacitors and transformers, plasticizers, lubricant inks and paint addirives. Once released into the environment, PCBs persist for years because they are so resistant to degradation. In addition to their persistence in the environment, PCBs in ecological food chains undergo biomagnification because of their high degree of lipophilicity. In 1970s, the worldwide production of PCBs was ceased and the import of PCBs was prohibited since 1983 in Korea. In spite of these actions, many PCBs seems to be still in use. The environmental load of PCBs will continue to be recycled through air, land, water, and the biosphere for decades to come. This study was conducted to measure the concentrations of PCBs in the serum samples of 112 women by GC/MSD and GC/ECD. The main results of this study were as follows. 1. PCBs were detected in all samples. The mean $\pm$SD levels of PCBs in the serum were 3.613$\pm$0.759 ppb, and median were 3.828 ppb. 2. The correlation coefficients of the concentrations of 13 PCB congeners were from minimum, 0.7913 to maximum, 0.9985, and all was significant(p=0.0001). The correlation coefficient between the concentrations of PCBs and p,p'-DDE was 0.9641(p=0.0001). 3. There was a positive association between age and PCBs' concentrations (simple linear regression ; $R^2$=0.86, $\beta$=0.08023, p<0.001). 4. There was a positive association between total lipids in the serum and PCBs' concentrations (simple linear regression ; $R^2$=0.7058, $\beta$=0.00486, p<0.001). 5. For possible predictors of PCBs and p,p' -DDE levels in the serum, age adjusted model (Y=$\beta$$_{0}$+$\beta$$_1$age+ $B_2$X) was applied. For BMI, major residential area, wether to eat caught fish by angling, where to eat caught fish by angling(by parents in the past), fish consumption, meat consumption, meat consumption, and dairy consumption, there was no association. For total conception frequency and lactation frequency and lactation period, there was negative association.ion.

  • Insertion of cannulae into vessels may disturb the blood flow doing non-physiological load and stress on blood cells such that ADP may increase and result in hemolysis. Authors used the computational method to simulate the 3-dimensional blood flow inside of the cannula using numerical method. We limited the research to within the drainage cannulae with side holes inserted through the human vein. In this paper, 9 different cannulae with side holes categorized by the number of side holes of 4, 12, and 20, and also categorized by the array type of side holes of staggered array, in-line array, and alternative in-line array were studied and compared to the cannula with no side holes by using CFD analysis. We evaluated the flow rate, the wall shear stress, and the shear rate and compared them with one another to estimate the effect of the side holes. The flow rate is not proportional to the number of the side holes. However, larger number of side holes can reduce the mean shear rate. Both the number and the array type of side holes play an important role on the fluid dynamics of the blood flow in cannulae.

  • Statements of problem: Zirconia core is used for posterior fixed partial dentures because it's good mechanical properties. Stress is concentrated on connectors in fixed partial dentures, so the proper design of connector areas is needed for adequate mechanical long-term properties of any prosthesis. The area of connector is critical, but tooth size and surrounding soft tissue limit the connector design. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to compare fracture strengths between different connector designs of zirconia core for posterior fixed partial dentures manufactured with CAD/CAM system and determining the optimal connector design satisfying strength and hygiene. Material and method: The following four groups of 40 posterior fixed partial denture specimens(each group 10) were fabricated as followed; group 1 vertical height of connector is 3mm (control group, all groups have the same condition); group 2, lingual vertical 1mm reinforcement on connector; group 3, lingual vertical 2mm reinforcing on connector and group 4, lingual vertical 3mm reinforcing on connector. Specimens were subjected to compressive loading on the central fossa of pontic by instron. SEM was used to identify the initial crack and characterize the fracture mode. Results: The results were as follows: 1. The mean fracture load of the non-lingual reinforcing group was 1212N and the lingual vertical 1mm reinforcing group was 1510N, the lingual vertical 2mm reinforcing group was 1882N, the lingual vertical 3mm reinforcing group was 1980N. 2. The reinforcing groups were statistically significant compared to non-reinforcing groups(P<0.001). 3. There were 2, 3mm reinforcing groups that were statistically significant compared to 1mm reinforcing groups(P<0.001), and the 3mm reinforcing group was not statistically significant compared to 2mm reinforcing groups(P>0.05) 4. Fractures were initiated in gingival embrasures of connectors and processed to the loading site. Conclusion: In this study, lingual reinforcement of connector for improved strength of zirconia based fixed partial denture is nessasary. And long-term study for clinical application is required

  • The objective of this study is to show practice example let student experience about concurrent servers based multi-processes and multi-thread among the principles of data communication in ICT(information and communications technology). For this, we first implement multi-process server(fork server) and multi-thread server(thread server), and multi-thread client(thread client), Secondly, for experimental environment, we developed small ethernet networks and measure data transfer time with relation to the number of users. Experimental results show that mean transfer time of thread server is less than that of fork server by 20~61 % on average. Furthermore, it is found that the difference of data transfer time between fork server and thread server is proportional to that of the number of users. Main reason of performance difference dues to the difference between process forking time and thread creation time. We can also find that context switching for process and thread affects the load of web server. Our presentation and experimental results can be applied to used as the educational practice materials with which student can experience data communication principles.

  • In this paper. we propose a novel performance monitoring scheme for heterogeneous SOAP nodes. The scheme is basically based on two-level (kernel-level and user-level) packet filtering of TCP flows. By TCP flow, we mean a sequence of raw packet streams on a TCP transaction. In this scheme, we detect and extract SOAP operations embedded in SOAP messages from TCP flows. Therefore, it becomes possible to monitor heterogeneous SOAP nodes deployed on diverse SOAP-based middlewares such as .Net and Apache AXIS. We present two implementation mechanisms for the proposed scheme. The first mechanism tries to identify SOAP operations by analyzing all fragmented SOAP messages on TCP flows. However, a naive policy would incur untolerable overhead since it needs to copy all packets from kernel to user space. The second mechanism overcomes this problem by selectively copying packets from kernel to user space. For selective copying, we use a kernel-level packet filtering method that makes use of some representative TCP flags.(e.g. SIN, FIN and PSH). In this mechanism, we can detect SOAP operations only from the last fragment of SOAP messages in most cases. Finally, we implement a SOAP monitoring system using a component ca]led SOAP Sniffer that realizes our proposed scheme, and show experimental results. We strongly believe that our system will play a vital role as a tool for various services such as transaction monitoring and load balancing among heterogeneous SOAP nodes.
