The objective of this study was to assess the statistics and associated criteria for field-scale model used to simulate nutrient concentrations in paddy field. CREAMS-PADDY, a modified version of the field-scale CREAMS model, simulates the hydrologic, sediment, and nutrient cycles in paddy fields was applied in this study. The model was calibrated and validated using data from study rice paddy fields in Republic of Korea. The calibration statistics include mean and the minimum-maximum range associated with a "temporal window" that spans a period of several days. Because nutrient concentrations in paddy filed are typically sampled infrequently (on a weekly basis, at best) and represent only an instant in time, it is not reasonable to expect any model to simulate a daily average concentration equal to an observed value on a particular day. The 5-day window and related calibration statistics were applied in this study and the applicability of this concept was tested for field-scale water quality model. As a result of calibration and validation, the ponded water nutrient concentration values showed only small changes except the fertilization period. Because of the small changes in ponded water concentration, the size of 5-day window was too small to capture the observed values. Further study is required to establish the 5-day window calibration method for field-scale water quality modeling.

Thermal spatial representativities of meteorological stations over Korea have been investigated using land surface temperature (LST) based on MODerate resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) satellite observation. The linear regression method was used to estimate air temperatures from MODIS LST product. To compare MODIS LST with observed air temperatures at six meteorological stations, the mean values of MODIS LST with nine given window sizes were calculated. In this case, the position of centered pixel in each given window size is correspond to that of each meteorological station. We also applied $4^{\circ}C$ threshold for RMSE comparison, which is based on a analogous study on daily maximum air temperature model using satellite data. In this study, the results showed that each station has a different representativity; Deajeon $15km{\times}15km$, Chuncheon $11km{\times}11km$, Seoul $7km{\times}7km$, Deagu $5km{\times}5km$, Kwangju $3km{\times}3km$, and Busan $3km{\times}3km$.

Forests have been considered one of the most important ecosystems on the earth, affecting the lives and environment. The sustainable forest management requires accurate and timely information of forest and tree parameters. Appropriately interpreted remotely sensed imagery can provide quantitative data for deriving forest information temporally and spatially. Especially, analysis of individual tree detection and crown delineation is significant issue, because individual trees are basic units for forest management. Individual trees in aerial imagery have reflectance characteristics according to tree species, crown shape and hierarchical status. This study suggested a method that identified individual trees and delineated crown boundaries through adopting gradient method algorithm to amplified greenness data using red and green band of aerial imagery. The amplification of specific band value improved possibility of detecting individual trees, and gradient method algorithm was performed to apply to identify individual tree tops. Additionally, tree crown boundaries were explored using spectral intensity pattern created by geometric characteristic of tree crown shape. Finally, accuracy of result derived from this method was evaluated by comparing with the reference data about individual tree location, number and crown boundary acquired by visual interpretation. The accuracy ($\hat{K}$) of suggested method to identify individual trees was 0.89 and adequate window size for delineating crown boundaries was $19{\times}19$ window size (maximum crown size: 9.4m) with accuracy ($\hat{K}$) at 0.80.

In this paper, we have proposed a FCB detection algorithm for the GSM system which is european cellular standard. The detection algorithm can be implemented using received signal sampler, correlator, and post detection combiner. GSM mobile phone can use the proposed algorithm for detection of the Broadcasting Channel, and to obtain the initial timing estimate. The proposed algorithm has a architecture which is suitable for DSP or ASIC implementation, and required memory size is small. The performance of the algorithm is a function of the processing data window size and the threshold values. Proper window size and the threshold values can be determined by analyzing the correlator and combiner. The proposed algorithm has been implemented using DSP, and the performance was verified using baseband simulation. The simulation assumed frequency offset values of 0ppm and 15ppm with the receiver filter bandwidth set at both minimum and maximum. It is shown that the algorithm is robust under various assumptions, and suitable for real implementations.
In this paper, we present the concept of generalization in constructing windows for subsequence matching and propose a new subsequence matching method. GeneralMatch, based on the generalization. The earlier work of Faloutsos et al.(FRM in short) causes a lot of false alarms due to lack of the point-filtering effect. DualMatch, which has been proposed by the authors, improves performance significantly over FRM by exploiting the point filtering effect, but it has the problem of having a smaller maximum window size (half that FRM) given the minimum query length. GeneralMatch, an improvement of DualMatch, offers advantages of both methods: it can use large windows like FRM and, at the same time, can exploit the point-filtering effect like DualMatch. GeneralMatch divides data sequences into J-sliding windows (generalized sliding windows) and the query sequence into J-disjoint windows (generalized disjoint windows). We formally prove that our GeneralMatch is correct, i.e., it incurs no false dismissal. We also prove that, given the minimum query length, there is a maximum bound of the window size to guarantee correctness of GeneralMatch. We then propose a method of determining the value of J that minimizes the number of page accesses, Experimental results for real stock data show that, for low selectivities ($10^{-6}~10^{-4}$), GeneralMatch improves performance by 114% over DualMatch and by 998% iver FRM on the average; for high selectivities ($10^{-6}~10^{-4}$), by 46% over DualMatch and by 65% over FRM on the average.

In order to measure sound transmission loss (STL) of a shipboard window of small size, a special partition is built into the test opening between two reverberation rooms and the specimen is placed in that partition. For high sound insulation, the filler wall often has multi-layered structure such as double-brick wall or buckhead structure with thick steel plate, absorptive material, and sandwich panels. This paper discusses the installation method of a multi-layered filler wall that consist of gypsum boards, lead plates, and glass wool. The experimental results of various wall structures are introduced. The comparison between the results show that the sound bridge effect plays a significant role in lowering the maximum STL of the filler wall. It is also found that the higher the sound insulation performance of the filler wall is, the more important the franking transmission through other side wall of the test facility is.

We present a novel statistically adaptive method using the Minimum Description Length(MDL) principle for unsupervised segmentation of magnetic resonance(MR) images. In the method, Markov random filed(MRF) modeling of tissue region accounts for random noise. Intensity measurements on the local region defined by a window are modeled by a finite Gaussian mixture, which accounts for image inhomogeneities. The segmentation algorithm is based on an iterative conditional modes(ICM) algorithm, approximately finds maximum ${\alpha}$ posteriori(MAP) estimation, and estimates model parameters on the local region. The size of the window for parameter estimation and segmentation is estimated from the image using the MDL principle. In the experiments, the technique well reflected image characteristic of the local region and showed better results than conventional methods in segmentation of MR images with inhomogeneities, especially.

This paper proposes a congestion avoidance algorithm which provides stable throughput and transmission rate regardless of buffer size by limiting the TCP congestion window in fixed bandwidth networks. Additive Increase, Multiplicative Decrease (AIMD) is the most commonly used congestion control algorithm. But, the AIMD-based TCP congestion control method causes unnecessary packet losses and retransmissions from the congestion window increment for available bandwidth verification when used in fixed bandwidth networks. In addition, the saw tooth variation of TCP throughput is inappropriate to be adopted for the applications that require low bandwidth variation. We present an algorithm in which congestion window can be limited under appropriate circumstances to avoid congestion losses while still addressing fairness issues. The maximum congestion window is determined from delay information to avoid queueing at the bottleneck node, hence stabilizes the throughput and the transmission rate of the connection without buffer and window control process. Simulations have performed to verify compatibility, steady state throughput, steady state packet loss count, and the variance of congestion window. The proposed algorithm can be easily adopted to the sender and is easy to deploy avoiding changes in network routers and user programs. The proposed algorithm can be applied to enhance the performance of the high-speed access network which is one of the fixed bandwidth networks.
To develop a biomarker predicting tumor treatment efficacy is helpful to reduce time, medical expenditure, and efforts in oncology therapy. In clinics, microvessel density using immunohistochemistry has been proposed as an indicator that correlates with both tumor size and metastasis of cancer. In the preclinical study, we hypothesized that vascular morphometrics using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) could be potential indicators to estimate the treatment efficacy of breast cancer. To verify this hypothesis, a 13762-MAT-B-III rat breast tumor was grown in a dorsal skinfold window chamber which was applied to a nude mouse, and the change in vascular morphology was longitudinally monitored during tumor growth and metronomic cyclophosphamide treatment. Based on the daily OCTA maximum intensity projection map, multiple vessel parameters (vessel skeleton density, vessel diameter index, fractal dimension, and lacunarity) were compared with the tumor size in no tumor, treated tumor, and untreated tumor cases. Although each case has only one animal, we found that the vessel skeleton density (VSD), vessel diameter index and fractal dimension (FD) tended to be positively correlated with tumor size while lacunarity showed a partially negative correlation. Moreover, we observed that the changes in the VSD and FD are prior to the morphological change of the tumor. This feasibility study would be helpful in evaluating the tumor vascular response to treatment in preclinical settings.
In wired networks, packet losses mostly occur due to congestion. TCP reacts to the congestion by decreasing its congestion window, thus to reduce network utilization. In wireless networks, however, losses may occur due to the high bit-error rate of the transmission medium or due to fading and mobility. Nevertheless, TCP still reacts to packet losses according to its congestion control scheme, thus to reduce the network utilization unnecessarily. This reduction of network utilization causes the performance of TCP to decrease. In this paper, we predict packet loss by using RSS(Received Signal Strengths) on the wireless and suggest adding RSS flag bit in ACK packet of MH. By using RSS flag bit in ACK, the FH(Fixed Host) decides whether it adopt congestion control scheme or not for the maximum throughput. The result of the simulation by NS-2 shows that the proposed mechanism significantly increases sending amount and receiving amount by 40% at maximum.
