  • In this study, the validity and applicability of the multipurpose fishway which has been constructed for the upstream migration of fish at Chuksan river in Uljin is assessed and analyzed by a commercial software. The upper slab types of fishway in this investigation are reinforced concrete slab (S1 type) and reinforced concrete slab with steel plate (S2 type). The three different sizes of subway passage ($0.8m{\times}0.1m$, $0.8m{\times}0.2m$, $0.8 m{\times}0.3m$) and velocities (0.6 m/s, 1.2 m/s, 1.8 m/s) of Chuksan fishway was investigated and compared for the Chuksan in government design code. The analysis showed that the maximum stress and bending moment of S1 type decreased 1~21 % and 12~27 % compared to the Chuksan in government design code, respectively. Also, the maximum stress of and bending moment of S2 type decreased 11~32 % and 27~39 %. From the numerical analysis, it was found that the S2 type was greatly effective and the subway passage size of $0.8m{\times}0.2m$ was most safe. This result can be utilized to be the basic data for design of the Multipurpose fishway.

  • This study verified the stability of a high-strength combined buried pile retaining wall and its applicability in the field. A cast-in-place (C.I.P) retaining wall and the high-strength combined embedded pile retaining wall were compared and analyzed numerically. The numerical analysis assessed the ground behavior and stability (and thus field applicability) of a high-strength combined buried pile retaining wall using data measured in the field. The experimental results showed that the cross-sectional force and displacement of the high-strength bonded pile retaining wall were reduced by 13.6~19.7%, the shear force increased by 0.7~4.7%, and the bending moment increased by 4.5~8.8% relative to the values for the C.I.P retaining wall. Examination of the amount of subsidence in the ground around the excavation showed that the maximum settlement of the C.I.P retaining wall was 46.89 mm and that at the high-strength combined buried pile retaining wall was 39.37 mm. Overall, designing a high-strength combined embedded pile retaining wall by applying the maximum bending moment and shear force calculated using the elastic beam method to the site ground was shown to achieve the safety of all members, as member forces were generated within the elastic region.

  • It is increasing construction of long span railway bridge with concrete track system for speed up of railway and efficient maintenance of track. As the sleeper of the concrete track system layed on a bridge is fixed on deck of the bridge, the displacement of the sleeper and deck is same. Therefore, the spacing between two sleeper installed at the end of the adjacent deck near the expansion joint of bridge becomes vary according to the longitudinal expansion of a deck by temperature change. By the way, if the spacing of sleepers become increase excessively, it causes large bending stress of in a rail, and it can leads failure or reduction of fatigue life of the rail. Further more, the excessive displacement of the rail may induce decrease ride comfort as well as corrugation of rail surface. Therefore, it is required to determine the allowable maximum sleeper spacing to prevent such problems. For the purpose, investigation on the influence factor on sleeper spacing for straight track was carried out. Variation of bending moment in a rail, wheel force, and the ratio of primary and secondary deflection of the rail according to sleeper spacing was investigated, and, as a result, the maximum allowable sleeper spacing at the bridge expansion joint was suggested.

  • Dynamic centrifuge model test was conducted to evaluate the dynamic stability of the pile-supported slab track method during dynamic railway loading and earthquake loading. The centrifuge tests were carried out for various condition of embankment height and soft ground depth. Based on test results, we found that the bending moment was increased with embankment height and decreased with soft ground depth. In addition, it was confirmed that the pile-supported slab track system could have dynamic stability for short-period seismic loading. However, in case of long-period seismic loading, such as Hachinohe earthquake, the observed maximum bending moment reached to pile cracking moment at the return period of 2,400 year earthquake. The criterion of ratio between embankment height and soft ground depth was suggested for dynamic stability of pile-supported slab track system.

  • While the existing pile foundation had the role of supporting the superstructure or reducing the earth pressure, recently there are cases where it is integrated with the superstructure to increase the lateral resistance. This study aims to evaluate a lateral resistance of block-type breakwaters with group piles by modelling experiments. The lateral resistance and bending moments of the piles by penetrated depths for the piles were measured. As a result, it was found that the lateral resistance increased as the depth of embedment of the group piles. In particular, the lateral resistance was 1.52 times greater in the case where the pile embedded up to the riprap layer than the case where the pile was embedded into the block. For the bending moment, the rear piles ware larger than the front piles, and the outside piles were larger than the inside piles. The location of the maximum bending moment in the ground was shown at the interface between the riprap layer and the natural ground.

  • This paper deals with the NREL (National Renewable Energy Laboratory) 5-MW reference wind turbine. The controller which include MPPT (Maximum power point tracking) control algorithm and tower load reduction control algorithm was designed by MATLAB Simulink. This paper propose a tower damper algorithm to improve the existing tower damper algorithm. To improve the existing tower damper algorithm, proposed tower damper algorithm were applied the thrust sensitivity scheduling and PI control method. The thrust sensitivity scheduling was calculated by thrust force formula which include thrust coefficient table. Power and Tower root moment DEL (Damage Equivalent Load) was set as a performance index to verify the load reduction algorithm. The simulation were performed 600 seconds under the wind conditions of the NTM (Normal Turbulence Model), TI (Turbulence Intensity)16% and 12~25m/s average wind speed. The effect of the proposed tower damper algorithm is confirmed through PSD (Power Spectral Density). The proposed tower damper algorithm reduces the fore-aft moment DEL of the tower up to 6% than the existing tower damper algorithm.

  • Thermo-mechanical and flexural behavior of a wire-bond plastic ball grid array (WB-PBGA) are characterized by high sensitive $moir{\acute{e}}$ interferometry. $Moir{\acute{e}}$ fringe patterns are recorded and analyzed at several various bending loads and temperature steps. At the temperature higher that $100^{\circ}C$, the inelastic deformation in solder balls became more dominant. As a result the bending of the molding compound decreased while temperature increased. The strain results show that the solder ball located at the edge of the chip has largest shear strain by the thermal load while the maximum average shear strain by the bending moment occurs in the end solder. The results also show that $moir{\acute{e}}$ interferometry is a powerful and effective tool in experimental studies of electronic packaging.

  • In this study, a five-story steel frame was designed in accordance with KBC2005 to evaluate the effects of the beam-column connection on the structural behavior. The connections were designed as fully rigid and semi-rigid. The fiber model was used to describe the moment-curvature relationship of the steel beam and the column, the power model for the moment-rotation angle of the semi-rigid connection and the three-parameter model for the hysteretic behavior of the steel beam, column, and connection. The structure was idealized as separate 2-D frames and as connected 2-D frames. The peak ground accelerations of four earthquake records were modified in a time-history analysis for the levels of the mean return period and for the maximum base-shear force in a pushover analysis. The top story displacement, base-shear force, story drift, demanded ductility ratio for the semi-rigid connection, maximum bending moment of the column, beam, and connection, and distribution of the plastic hinge were examined in the time-history analysis. The frame with the semi-rigid connection yielded a lower base-shear force, less magnitude, and increasing ratio in the bending moment of the column, beam, and connection than the frame with a fully rigid connection. The TSD connection was deemed to have secured the economy and safety of the sample structure that was subjected to seismic excitation for the Korean design level.

  • Static behaviors of railway plate girder bridges designed by the L-22, a standard load type of the railway specification in Korea, are evaluated by widely eight load cases. The load cases are three real loads, which contain three locomotive types of Saemaul PMC, diesel, and Korea Train Express(KTX), and three design loads, L-22, L-18, and HL-25 loads, in railway specification. Plate girders for analysis have the length of spans of six types:6m, 9m, 12m, 22m, 24m, and 30m. For analysis SAP2000n ,a commercial FEM tool, is used. Dominant axial load types are taken from these results that are maximum deflections, reaction forces, and absolute maximum bending moment in girders.

  • In this thesis, the crack investigation, the damage investigation, the drawing check, and the structural analysis were performed on a curved hollow RC(reinforced concrete) slab bridge structure to assess the structural safety of that. From the crack investigation result, main reason of crack occurrence is guessed with travelling of the large truck. Therefore reinforcement of slab structure is necessary by using the steel plate. When structural analysis, the straight beam model, the curved beam model, and the curved plate model is used. From the results of structural analysis for curved hollow RC slab bridge, the maximum bending moment and the maximum shear force was not a difference in each models. But the vertical displacement of mid span using the curved beam model was greater than that using the other models.
