  • Burg's algorithm for maximum entropy spectral analysis is studied with respect to its computational efficiency and stableness. The Burg's method is not only less efficient than the Yule-Walker's method but also sometimes unstable due to its mathematical irrationality. This irrationality is demonstrated by analyzing an artificial time series, and more stable and effective method is proposed. An efficient procedure using Goertzel's algorithm to compute power spectral densities is also proposed.

  • In this paper the nonstationary response of accelerating vehicle is firstly obtained by using nonstationary road roughness model in time domain. To get the result of nonstationary response in frequency domain, the maximum entropy method is used for Processing nonstationary response of vehicle in frequency domain. The three-dimensional transient maximum entropy spectrum (MES) of response is given.

  • In order to understand changes of water temperature for thermal discharge of Hadong power plant in Gwangyang and Jinju Bay, it was analyzed for temperature data of representative season by MEM(Maximum entropy method) that is one of the spectral analysises. And due to understand effect of thermal discharge at each point, analyzed spectral data showed reactive energy rate of reference point by calculating energy from 24 time period to height frequency zone. As a result of spectral analysis, it showed that there were 9 points which are largely effected, 7 points which will be estimated, 6 points which is difficult to estimate, 14 points which rarely effected by thermal discharge.

  • In this study, the degree of spectral transfer to lower frequency caused by accumulation of Latic acid inside the muscle is estimated the convintional dip analysis, zero-crossing method and FFT method have intrinsic errors and estimation problems in case of severe noise. The new spectral analysis method using "$2^{nd}$ order Maximum Entropy Method" was applied to estimate mean frequency and we confirmed that this new method yields fast and reliable estimation over the FFT method.

  • With the stochastic process which consists of the harmonic sinusoid and the white nosie, the power spectrum of background EEG is estimated by the Pisarenko Harmonic Decomposition. The estimating results are examined and compared with the results from the maximum entropy spectral estimation, and the optimal order of this model can be determined from the eigen value's fluctuation of autocorrelation of background EEG. From the comparing results, this paper ensures that this method is possible to analyze the power spectrum of background EEG.

  • Texture features can be incorporated in classification procedure to resolve class confusions. However, there have been few application-oriented studies made to evaluate the relative powers of texture analysis methods in a particular environment. This study evaluates the increases in the land-cover classification accuracy of the SPOT HRV multispectral data of Pusan Metropolitan area from texture processing. Twenty-four texture measures were derived from the SPOT HRV band 3 image. Each of these features were used in combination with the three spectral images in the classification of 10 land-cover classes. Supervised training and a Gaussian maximum likelihood classifier were used in the classification. It was found that while entropy produces the best empirical results in terms of the overall classification, other texture features can also largely improve the classification accuracies obtained by the use of the spectral images only. With the inclusion of texture, the classification for each category improves. Specially, urban built-up areas had much increase in accuracy. The results indicate that texture size 5 by 5 and 7 by 7 may be suitable at land cover classification of Pusan Metropolitan area.

  • The power spectral density (PSD) for the road surface roughness on the bridges of minor roads in Wonju city and Hoengseong-gun, Gangwon-do is presented. To obtain the PSD, the road surface roughness on 18 different bridges with various superstructure type and span is measured by GPS at every 10 to 30cm interval. Assuming the PSD as the stationary normal probability process with zero mean value, the PSD of measured road surface roughness is obtained by applying the Maximum Entropy Method (MEM). A simple formula in evaluating the PSD of RC slab bridge, Rahmen bridge and PSC I-girder bridge which is applicable to the dynamic response analysis of bridges considering the road surface roughness is proposed. Using the calculated PSD curves, the road surface conditions on the 18 bridges are evaluated. The statistical relationship between the PSD and the IRI is presented by applying linear regression and correlation analysis.
