This study sought to evaluate the effect of the type of grafts used in sinus lifting. A review of literature through MEDLINE search covering the period 1980 ~ 2006 was performed. After screening, this study was narrowed down to 2,452 patients receiving sinus lift grafts wherein 7,151 implants were placed. In this study, the types of grafts used in sinus augmentation were autogenous bone, allogenic bone, corticocancellous block bone, and various alloplastic materials. The success rate varied from 69% to 100% depending on the graft material type. The highest success rate was reported for the autogenous bone, with high success rates recorded for the most part in most studies.

Radiation therapy for malignancy of head and neck leads to secondary effects, such as mucositis, xerostomia, dental caries and osteoradionecrosis. Osteoradionecrosis is a delayed complication which causes chronic pain, infection and constant deformity after necrosis. It occurs spontaneously or after primary oncologic surgery, dental extraction or by trauma of prosthesis. To reduce the incidence of osteoradionecrosis, appropriate antibiotic usage, atraumic procedure, tension-free primary suture and hyperbaric oxygen therapy are essential. This case is about a 74 years old woman who was treated for osteoradionecrosis after extraction of right lower molar at year 2006. She had received radiation therapy for angiosarcoma on tongue at year 2004. At year 2008 the patient came to our hospital for extraction of the opposite premolar but despite careful treatment, osteoradionecrosis occurred again. She was successfully treated by surgical procedure so we report this case.

The authors investigated the 17 patients with the condylar fractures of the mandible who were admitted in Dept. of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Chosun University, Dental hospital from 1990 to 1993 and could be taken follow-up above 6 months. Helkimo's clinical dysfunction index and mandibular mobility index were applied to the evaluation of the patients and the obtained results were as follows. 1. Mean maximal mouth opening was 38.4 mm in the conservative group, 41.3 mm in the surgical group and that showed no statistically significant difference.(P>0.05) 2. Clinical dysfunction index was higher in the surgical group than in the conservative group but .that showed no statistically difference.(P>0.05) 3. The extent of maximal mouth opening was increased gradually throughout the follow-up period. 4. Both groups didn't show severe clinically dysfunction.

Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a neoplasm that arises most commonly in pleura. Although SFT occasionally occurs in extrapleural locations, the incidence in the oral cavity is rare. SFT is benign in almost cases and surgical excision is the effective treatment. SFT occurred in the left cheek of a 60-year-old man presented with a painless submucosal mass. The tumor was surgically removed. Immunohistochemical study showed that tumoral cells were negative for SMA, S-100, but positive for Bcl-2, CD34. SFT is easily over-diagnosed if strict criteria are not carefully applied, and strict diagnostic criteria are necessary to avoid confusion of SFT with more aggressive lesions.

General anesthesia is necessary to operation in dept. of oral and maxillofacial surgery. Halothane is one of the most commonly used anesthetic agent for general anesthesia because of its property of nonexplosive, inexpensive, strong activeness and chemical stability. Halothane is fluorinated hydrocarbone anesthetic agent and structurally similiar to chloroform. On the contrary halothane has been reported to result in severe hepaitc necrosis in a small number of individuals. Although the mechanism of halothane induced toxic hapatitis is unclear, it appears to be closely related to reducting metabolite, reactant intermediate product, immune reaction, hypersensitivity and so on. This is a case report of 27 years old male patient occured halothane induced hepatitis following after operation of mandible fracture.

We performed costochondral grafting in mmandibular reconstruction including condyle replacement in 5 patients which have 4 cases of ameloblastoma, 1 case of resorption of left condyle due to osteomyelitis. We harvested the 6 th costochondral cartilage of unaffected side. No specific complications were appeared with unexpected fracture of costochondral junction and infection of operation site, These patients show 30-45mm at month opening, near normal of affected side, near normal or normal of unaffected side at lateral excursion. Postoperative coureses was uneventful with improved cosmetic and functional results. Our report is indicated that the costochondral graft is satisfactory to reconstruct mandibular defect including condyle replacement, especially in growing patients.

Pilomatricoma or calcifying epithelioma is a benign tumor of hair follicle origin. Pilomatricoma presents a slowly enlarged and asymptomatic mass that located dermal or subdermal area. It showed mostly on face and upper limb and head and neck represents 50% of all case. And it developed almostly in the first 2 decade of life. Histologically, encapsulated mass composed of solid small basophilic cells and eosinophilic ghost cells. Surgical excision is the treatment choice and rarely recurs. The purpose of this article is to represent of pilomatricoma on subauricular region that treated with mass excision and local transpositional flap. Althrough the presurgical diagnosis of pilomatricoma may be difficult, clinicians must keep in mind the differential of head and neck masses that located subdermal layers.

Mania in psychiatry describes not only the state of temporary elation of the mood but also of the general mental function such as contents of a thought, thinking process, motivation, enthusiasm, interest, behavior, slumber and physical activities. The time of period when the above changes of mood, mental and behavioral disorder appear is called a manic episode. Postoperative mania is very rare and it has been reported only 5 times in english literature. It's an extremely rare case which has not yet been reported in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery. Patients normally deny the symptoms and it is easy to miss the diagnosis since the patient tends to seem content and happy. Patients show the following initial symptoms of mania - postoperative insomnia, atypical gregariousness, euphoria and unstability. Patients who are not disaffected with insomnia can also be included.

Angiomyoma is the vascular type of leiomyoma that the tumor cells are originated from vascular smooth muscle cells. It's frequently found in the subcutaneous tissues of the lower extremities. Such case of an angiomyoma within the oral cavity is rarely found. From a series of 7748 smooth muscle tumors of all types, only 0.06% were found in the oral cavity. This is a rare case of a young woman appeared with oral angiomyoma located in the left mandibular posterior region with plain radiograph, CT and histologic review.

Background: Transverse facial clefts are Tessier's number 7 facial cleft among numbers 1-15 in Tessier's classification of craniofacial malformations, which varies from a simple widening oral commissure to a complete fissure extending towards the external ear. Case presentation: In a patient with a transverse facial cleft, to functionally arrange the orbicularis oris muscle and form the oral commissure naturally, we performed a surgical procedure including orbicularis oris muscle reconstruction and cheiloplasty with Z-plasty. Conclusion: We achieved good results functionally and esthetically by orbicularis oris muscle reconstruction and cheiloplasty with Z-plasty. The surgical modality of our anatomical repair and 3 months follow-up results are presented.
