The conservative treatment of the condylar fracture has been used for a long time because of its simplicity, good prognosis and less complication. Traditionally the conservative treatment has been carried out by maxillomandibular fixation using arch bar and wire. But a simplified technique of maxillomandibular fixation introduced here is a procedure that 4 bone screws are placed above the apecies of the maxillary and mandibular canines and then ipsilaterally placed maxillary and mandibular bone screws are linked by a loop of wire each other. This procedure has several advantages compared with the traditional maxillomandibular fixation method. 1) it provides simplicity for the operators. 2) it sustains maxillomandibular fixation more rigidly compared with arch bar technique. 3) it keeps stable maxillomandibular fixation in the region of the anterior teeth so that anterior open bite tendency can be remarkably minimized. 4) it does not injure the periodontal tissue because the teeth are not engaged and causes less discomfort to the patient. 5) it decreases the possibility of operator's AIDS infection through inadvertent skin puncture. 6) it is highly recommended for the patients whose teeth are available for maxillomandibular fixation. The two male patients were diagnosed as bilateral condylar and symphyseal fracture of the mandible. They restored stable occlusion and functional mandibular movement only by a simplified technique of maxillomandibular fixation.
The prosthesis of the implant installed in inappropriate positions presents aesthetic and functional problems. If the implants are placed in the wrong position, re-implantation is often limited. There are surgical and non-surgical methods for resolving complications without re-implantation. The surgical costs, healing time, discomfort and unpredictability make this choice unpopular. On the other hand, a gingival mask has the advantage of solving complications quickly and simply. The patient was a 80-year-old male with palatally installed implant in maxillary anterior region and dissatisfied with his unesthetic philtrum and food impaction between the upper lip and the prosthesis. It was difficult to predict the prognosis of surgical operation, and the patient wanted treatment economically and physically burdenless because of his age and financial situation. Thus, the gingival mask was planned and the results were satisfactory.
Turner syndrome (TS) is one of the most common chromosomal abnormalities, with an estimated frequency among female live births of 1/2,000-3,000. The syndrome is characterized by the partial or complete absence of one X chromosome (45,X karyotype). We reported a unique case of a 40-year-old woman with TS accompanying unexpected elongated styloid process specific to Eagle syndrome (ES) and followed up-prolactinoma. The present article is the first report to define the cone-beam computed tomographic (CBCT) features of TS accompanying ES. Patients with TS carry various risks that make treatment more complicated; thus advanced imaging techniques for proper treatment and follow-up are extremely important. In the light of CBCT examination, craniofacial abnormalities specific to TS and accompanying syndromes such as the crowding of teeth especially in the maxillary anterior region caused by maxillary narrowness, micrognatic maxilla and mandible, relative mandibular retrusion, malocclusion, open-bite, and an elongated styloid process (length of 32.7 mm) on the right side were illustrated in detail.
Orthodontic treatment planning of cleft lip and palate requires consideration of the characteristic features, growth pattern and functional disorders related to cleft lip and palate patients. Tissue deficiencies and constriction of the scar tissue in surgically treated cleft lip and palate results in disturbance of maxillary growth and deficiency of midfacial region with anterior and posterior crossbite. These patients often present congenital missing of teeth, supernumerary teeth, malformed teeth, or ectopic position of teeth, which should be treated by orthodontic treatment by expanding upper arch followed by fixed appliance. Proper use of retainer and continuous follow-up is needed to prevent relapse after orthodontic treatment has finished. Also we have to pay attention to correct speech disorder which is caused by the velopharyngeal insufficiency.

The purpose of this investigation was to study the spatial changes of the maxillofacial complex following maxillary protraction transmitted to the center of resistance of a dry juvenile human skull by a modified maxillary protraction appliance. Four dry juvenile human skulls (without mandible) with well aligned upper deciduous dentition and early mixed dentition were used as experimental samples. A modified protraction headgear was fabricated from a Delare's facemask, and following an alginate impression, an orthodontic resin maxillary splint was made for each dry skull. Protraction force level was maintained at approximately 1000gm per side for 6 hours. Cephalometric radiographs were taken pre- and post- protraction, and nine reference markers with 1.5 mm length of $.017\times.025$ TMA wire were placed on the right side of the skull for an accurate superimposition of serial cephalometric radiographs. The present investigation demonstrated that vertical changes associated with an anterior displacement of the maxillary complex was observed, and the most prominent effect of protraction headgear was a counterclockwise rotation of the maxilla, that is, a forward and downward tipping around the palatomaxillary region.
Craniofacial complex is influenced by numerical skeletal elements. Though the analysis of growth change has been done by various analytical methods, it was dependent on any method of registration and superimposition, based on reference plane and reference point. However, the craniofacial growth is composed of a number of local growth elements. Therefore, it will be necessary to use a clinically useful method for estimating craniofacial skeletal growth independently. The author analysed longitudinal cephalometric roentgenogram of 15 Korean males and 15 Korean females aged from 6 to 12 years by the finite element method and results were as follows : 1. The finite element method for craniofacial skeletal complex and soft tissue made it possible to analyze the independent local growth. 2. Regression equations from the value of each strain will make it possible to predict the craniofacial growth. 3. The growth of anterior cranial base was different from that of other facial bone. 4. The growth of posterior cranial base influenced the growth of upper pharyngeal region, midfacial region, maxilla and posterior region of mandible. 5. The growth of maxillary complex was vertical rather than horizontal. 6. The growth direction of ramus, mandibular body, alveolar bone was various. 7. The relation between hard tissue and soft tissue by finite element method was variant.
Dentigerous cysts are the most common developmental cysts of the jaws, most frequently associated with impacted mandibular third molar teeth. Dentigerous cysts around supernumerary teeth, however, account for 5% of all dentigerous cysts, with most developing around a mesiodens in the anterior maxilla. This report describes two cases of a dentigerous cyst associated with an impacted mesiodens. Both of the patients complained of swelling in the maxillary anterior region. Radiographic examination revealed an impacted mesiodens surrounded by a large corticated radiolucency in both cases. A provisional diagnosis of infected odontogenic cyst was made. The cysts were enucleated with the removal of the mesiodens in the two cases. Histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of infected dentigerous cyst associated with an impacted mesiodens in both cases. The patients remained asymptomatic, and no complications were noted.

Achieving an aesthetic implant-supported restoration in the single tooth missing case can be challenging when the implant site is in e anterior region. The objective of this report is to focus on presurgical evaluation of implant site and systematic development of related prosthetic modalities. An accurate diagnostic evaluation, a systematically developed pesurgical plan, and knowledge and clinical skill of the various related therapeutic modalities are indispensible. Collection of patient's information, appropriate abutment selection, soft tissue contour, implant axis, and occlusion need to be discussed for aesthetic clinical outcome. For aesthetic restoration, such as surgical guide stent for precise implant positioning customized provisional restoration for development of optimal periimplant soft tissue contours, and fabrication customized abutment (mesiostructure) for veriable emergence profile, are recommended.
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to evaluate dental hygiene students' recognition of safety management and phantom practice in dental radiology. Methods: The study subjects were 409 students in six regions who completed a dental radiology practice course and had on-job experience more than once. After understanding the study purpose and contents, they answered a questionnaire. The main jobs in dental radiology were analyzed. Results: As a result, regarding the most difficult aspects of dental radiology practice, "it is impossible to irradiate the mouth directly with X-rays" was the most common response (29.1%). Regarding the question "what is the main role of students in dental radiology practice?", the answer "it is shooting simulations using phantoms" accounted for 59.7% of responses. The most difficult regions in bisecting and paralleling radiography with a phantom were found to be the maxillary & mandibular molars and premolars. The most difficult technique was reported to be locating XCP maintenance to fit inside the mouth for both molars and premolars. The most difficult region to perform bitewing radiography using the phantom was the molar region (2.87), and the most difficult to perform occlusal radiography approaches were maxillary anterior general occlusal radiography (2.92) and mandibular cross-sectional occlusal radiography (3.00). Conclusions: The most technically difficult point in bitewing and occlusal radiography was the correct positioning of the vertical and horizontal angles. Radiography practice was considered to be more effective than previous mutual practice in terms of analysis of anatomical structures and patient treatment methods. Therefore, it will be necessary to improve policy regarding dental radiography practice at the department of dental hygienics and revise the necessary laws and regulations.
Adenomatoid odontogenic tumor (AOT) usually presents as a unilocular, pericoronal radiolucency in the maxillary anterior region in adolescent females. Very few conditions occur in such a narrow age range and at such a restrictive site. Rarely, these tumors present with varied clinical features. A case of AOT of the mandible is reported with unusual features such as large size, multilocular appearance, and aggressive behavior. The role of radiology in diagnosis of atypical AOT is extremely important. The unique radiological manifestations of the lesion helped in the diagnosis, and it was managed conservatively with no evidence of recurrence.
