Hot dip aluminizing (HDA) is widely used in industry for improving corrosion resistance of material. The formation of intermetallic compound layers during the contact between dissimilar materials at high temperature is common phenomenon. Generally, intermetallic compound layers of $Fe_2Al_5$ and $FeAl_3$ are formed at the Al alloy and Fe substrate interface. In case of cast iron, high contact angle of graphite existed in the matrix inhibits the formation of intermetallic compound layer, which carry with it the disadvantage of a reduced reaction area and mechanical properties. In present work, the process for the removal of graphite existed on the surface of specimen has been investigated. And also HDA was proceeded at $800^{\circ}C$ for 3 minutes in aluminum alloy melt. The efficiency of graphite removal was increased with the reduction of particle size in sanding process. Graphite appears to be present both in the region of melting followed by re-solidification and in the intermetallic compound layer, which could be attributed to the fact that the surface of cast iron is melted down by the formation of low melting point phase with the diffusion of Al and Si to the cast iron. Intermetallic compound layer consisted of $Fe(Al,Si)_3$ and $Fe_2Al_5Si$, the layer formed at cast iron side contained lower amount of Si.

The thermal conductivity and the adhesive properties were measured, after synthesis of thermal conductive composite which was obtained as a result of mixing alumina or graphite with acrylic adhesive synthesized by UV polymerization. The adhesive properties of the composite were evaluated measuring the peel strength at 180 degrees, the retention, and the initial tack;the thermal conductivity was estimated using laser flash analysis. As the filler contents increased, a decrease in peel strength and initial tack and an increase in retention and thermal conductivity were observed. When compared to alumina, the adhesion of graphite showed a dramatic decrease, whereas the thermal conductivity was further enhanced. It was found out that the small size of graphite increased the mechanical interlocking between the polymer and the filler, and it was easier for graphite to come into contact with other graphite in the matrix.
Flake graphite cast irons with the high damping capacity have been used for the control of vibration and noise occurring in the members of various mechanical structures under vibrating conditions. However, the damping capacity which is morphological characteristics of graphite is one of the important factors in reducing the vibration and noise, but hardly any work has deal with this problem. Therefore, the authors have examined the damping capacity of various cast irons with alloying elements and studied the influences of the matrix structures, mechanical properties and morphological characteristics of graphite. The main results obtained are as follows: Effects of pouring temperature on the damping capacities and mechanical properties were investigated in 3.6%C cast iron. At $1400^{\circ}C$, specific damping capacity showed the maximum value, and decreased with increase pouring temperature. Mechanical properties showed opposite trend with the damping capacity. And then, effects of Ni on the damping capacities and mechanical properties have been investigated in 3.6%C gray cast iron. At 0.2%Ni content, specific damping capacity showed the maximum value, and decreased with further increase in Ni content. Graphite length also showed same behavior. This indicates that the specific damping capacity has a close relation with graphite length. In case of Mo addition in 3.6%C-0.2%Ni cast iron, specific damping capacity and tensile strength was 27% and $20kgf/mm^2$ at 3.6%C-0.2%Ni-0.3%Mo cast iron respectively.
In this study we have investigated the effects of Mm, MmH and $MmH_2$ on the matrix development in cast iron, The conclusive summary is as follows: The spheroidal graphite was observed when 0.5wt.% or more of mischmetal was added and the matrix was of ledeburite structure, but bull's eye structure was not observed. On the other hand, the bull's eye structure was observed when 0.25wt.% of MmH, or 0.25wt.% to 0.5wt.% of $MmH_2$ was added. Above limit of the additives, the matrix changed into ledeburite structure. As the hydrogen content of mischmetal compound increased from MmH, the range of additives to obtain bull's eye structure expanded. This reveals the significant effect of mischmetal hydride on matrix development in cast iron and the possibility of practical use of the additives.

The effect of microstructure of gray cast iron disk was investigated by using a pad-on-disk type friction tester. Three different rotors with different microstructures were studied in this work. They showed a pearlitic matrix, a ferritic matrix, and a martensitic structure, respectively. All of them have graphite flakes in common. Drag tests at different pressure and speed conditions were carried out to study friction stability, temperature rise during drags. The rotor containing pearlitic matrix showed lower values of friction coefficient, small amount of temperature rise, and less fading. The results showed that gray cast iron disk containing pearlitic matrix has good friction characteristics.
For the analysis of the relatively volatile lead in blood by GFAAS(graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrophotometer), one can not raise the ashing temperature beyond certain degree due to the elevation of the baseline. Previous investigations showed that background is stabilized when the ashing temperature is raised to $700^{\circ}C$ using a matrix modifier. In this study, same result was obtained at the ashing temperature of around $550^{\circ}C$ even when the matrix modifier is not used and only Triton X-100 is used as a diluent, on an instrument which is equipped with both temperature and current controller(Shimadzu, AA-6501S) and thus the temperature control is fast and accurate. Background correction methods of $D_2$ arc and SR(self reversal) were reviewed. The results show that the absorbance is higher for the $D_2$ arc method, but the background correction is higher for the SR method.
Exfoliated graphite (EFG) with high aspect ratio was incorporated with high density polyethylene (HDPE) for use as high barrier packaging material such as water-sensitivity electric product and pharmaceutical packaging. Also HDPE/EFG nanocomposite films were prepared by adding the compatibilizer for effective dispersion and compatibility. Their chemical properties, crystal structure properties, thermal properties and water barrier properties of as-prepared HDPE/EFG nanocomposite films were investigated as a function of EFG contents. It showed that there is a weak interfacial interaction between HDPE and EFG, however, the water vapor permeations were decreased from 127 to 78 (70 ${\mu}m{\cdot}g/m^2$, $day{\cdot}atm$) by addition of EFG. Especially, the physical properties of HDPE/EFG nanocomposite films were effectively increased up to 0.5 wt%, however, there were no significant improvement of properties in nanocomposite films at the additional EFG loading. To maximize their performance of the nanocomposite films, further research is required to enhance the dispersion of EFG and compatibility of EFG in HDPE matrix.

The effect of varying amounts of graphite and $TiB_2$ on the electrical conductivity of composite bipolar plates was systematically studied. In this study, Titanium diboride ($TiB_2$) which has a high electrical conductivity, was selected as a filler and a additive material instead of conventional graphite. For proper distribution of the filler and matrix materials, ball milling using alumina balls was conducted for 1h, and then the hot press method was applied for the preparation of composite samples. The results showed a rapid increase in the electrical conductivity of composite bipolar plates at the critical filler content. However, $TiB_2$ and graphite composite bipolar plates showed similar increases in the electrical conductivity even though $TiB_2$ has a higher electrical conductivity than graphite. In addition, it was also found that a small addition of $TiB_2$ to graphite filler could be very effective for increasing the electrical conductivity and flexural strength of the composite bipolar plate.

In the case of 0.14%Ti addition in 3.6%C-0.2%Ni-0.02%Sb cast iron, specific damping capacity and tensile strength was 36% and 25 $kgf/mm^2$ which are higher than 32% and 15 $kgf/mm^2$ at 3.6%C-0.2%Ni cast iron respectively.
We examined, using thermoanalytical methods, the effects of $2000^{\circ}C$ heat-treated graphite powders and heating rate of cure after impregnation on the thermal stability and carbon yield of furfuryl alcohol, which is frequently used not only as an impregnant but also as a matrix precursor for carbon fiber-reinforced carbon composites. It was founded that the addition of 30wt% graphite powders to furfuryl alcohol and the heating rate of $35^{\circ}C$/min showed the highest thermal stability of furfuryl alcohol/graphite powder mixture. The carbon yield above $1000^{\circ}C$ was enhanced more than 10% in comparison with the absence of graphite powders. It would be expected that this result can contribute to some extent to reduce the repeating number of processing cycle (carbonization-impregnation-cure-re-carbonization) required to densify a carbonaceous composite.
