A brake lever in a basic railway brake system is an important safety device that delivers braking force from the brake cylinder to the brake pad. The safety guidelines for designing rolling stock only qualitatively describe that the brake lever should have sufficient strength. Each train has a different type of brake lever. One brake lever that was designed with a factor of safety of 1.27 has failed, so the material was changed to increase the strength. Therefore, the stress distribution and weak points of the lever were identified by theoretical analysis. and structural analysis. Different brake lever designs were examined for KTX high-speed trains, which have a split-type structure, as well as for electric locomotives, which use an electric multiple unit (EMU) with a unity-type structure. A fracture test was also done to look at the relationship between the vertical stress and the bending stress during braking. The results were used to find a safety factor to apply to each train and suggest quantitative minimum guidelines. We also looked at changing the unity-type EMU brake lever to the split type under the same conditions and analyzed how much the design change affected the factor of safety.

This study was performed to investigate a hospital nurses' knowledge and attitude about cancer pain management and to make use of base material for education. The research design was descriptive survey study, and the data were collected from 303 nurses who were working at a university hospital. A instrument study was the inventory consisting 107 questionnaires for cancer pain management. The data were analysed by SPSS WIN 18.0. The study showed that the percentage of correct answers for general knowledge about pain was 79.6%, for knowledge about cancer pain was 82.2%, for knowledge about analgesics use was 55.6%, for attitude about pain management was 65.2%, and the percentage of correct answers for each item was 70.7%. The knowledge about analgesics use was significant difference in age, education level, position, years of nursing practice, present place of working, years of present working place, pain education program experience, the attitude about pain management was significant difference in gender, education level and present place of working. Consequently it needs the persistent educational programs development and the clinical application to improve of nurses` knowledge and attitude about cancer pain management.
In leaner-controlled environment where learners can decide and restructure the contents, methods and order of learning by themselves, it is possible to apply individualized learning in consideration of each learner's characteristics. The present study analyzed learners' learning path pattern, which is one of learners' characteristics important in Web-based teaching-learning process, using the Apriori algorithm and grouped learners according to their learning path pattern. Based on the result, we designed and implemented a multi-dimensional learning path pattern analysis system to provide individual learners with teaming paths, learning contents, learning media, supplementary teaming contents, the pattern of material presentation, etc. multi-dimensionally. According to the result of surveying satisfaction with the developed system satisfaction with supplementary learning contents was highest (Highly satisfied '$24.5\%$, Satisfied'$35.7\%$). By learners' level, satisfaction was higher in low-level learners (Highly satisfied'$20.2\%$, Satisfied'$31.2\%$) than in high-level learners (Highly satisfied'$18.4\%$, 'Satisfied'$28.54\%$). The developed system is expected to provide learners with multi-dimensionally meaningful information from various angles using OLAP technologies such as drill-up and drill-down.

The Electro-Mechanical Brake (EMB) is the next generation braking system for automobiles and railway vehicles. Current brake systems for high-speed trains generate a braking force using a pneumatic cylinder, but EMB systems produce that force through a combination of an electric motor and a gear. In this study, an EMB operation mechanism capable of generating a high braking force was proposed, and structural and vibration analyses of the gears and shafts, which are the core parts of the mechanisms, were performed. Dynamic structural analysis confirmed that the maximum stress in the analysis model was within the yield strength of the material. In addition, the design that maximizes the diameter of the motor shaft was found to be advantageous in strength, and large shear stress could be generated in the bolt fixing the gear and eccentric shaft. In addition, a test apparatus that can reproduce the mechanism of the analytical model was fabricated to measure the strain of the fixed bolt part, which is the most vulnerable part. The strain measurement results showed that the error between the analysis and measurement was within 10%, which could verify the accuracy of the analytical model.

The main reason for heat accidents occurring at the after stern tube bearing (STB) is excessive local pressure caused by the deflection of the propulsion shaft due to propeller loads. The probability of a heat accident is increased by the low flexibility of the shaft system in very large crude oil carriers (VLCCs) as the engine power and shaft diameter increase and the distance decreases between the forward and after STBs. This study proposed shaft system with only an after STB and no forward STB for a flexibility acquisition method for a VLCC shaft system under hull deformation. A Hertzian contact condition was applied, which assumes a half-elliptical pressure distribution along the contact width for the calculation of the local squeeze pressure. The propeller loads, heat effect, and hull deflection under engine operating conditions are also considered. The results show that the required design criteria were satisfied by building a partial slope at the white metal, which is the material at the axial contact side in the after STB. This system could reduce building cost by simplification of the shaft system.

This study evaluated the importance of technical characteristics in manufacturing street furniture using 3D printing technology to suggest the direction of development of high priority 3D printing technology. The importance was analyzed by the QFD, quantified by scores and the priority of the items was summarized. As a result, the 'output size', 'shrinkage of material', and 'output angle' were derived as technical elements that should be prioritized in development and research. For verification, the design of atypical street furniture was made into a large 3D printed output and the development direction was suggested by applying the technical elements of priority during the manufacturing process. Street furniture should be designed based on functionality and stability, as well as economic efficiency, productivity, and aesthetics. Therefore, the 'output size' ensured stability by minimizing the division of parts, and the 'contractability of materials' satisfied the aesthetic and productivity by minimizing the error of form. Finally, the 'output angle' was verified by improving the quality of the output and selecting an angle with efficient and structural stability through various output angles.

With the advantage of a rapid exothermic reaction property, jet set concrete may be used as a cold weather concrete because it can reach the required strength before being damaged by cold weathers. And it can be hardened more quickly if the field temperature is properly compensated by heating. Because ordinary concrete cannot be hardened well under sub-zero temperatures, anti-freeze agents are typically added to prevent the frost damage and to ensure the proper hardening of concrete. While the addition of a large amount of anti-freeze agent is effective to prevent concrete from freezing and accelerates cement hydration resulting in shortening the setting time and enhancing the initial strength, it induces problems in long-term strength growth. Also, it is not economically feasible because most anti-freeze agents are mainly composed of chlorides. Recent studies reported that magnesia-phosphate composites can be hardened very quickly and hydrated even in low temperatures, which can be used as an alternative of cold weather concrete for cold weathers and very cold places. As a preliminary study, to obtain the material properties, mortar specimens with different mixture proportions of magnesia-phosphate composites were manufactured and series of experiments were conducted varying the curing temperature. From the experimental results, an appropriate mixture design for cold weathers and very cold places is suggested.

Fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) has been generally accepted by civil engineers as an alternative for steel reinforcing bars (rebar) due to its advantageous specific tensile strength and non-corrosiveness. Even though some glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) rebars are available on a market, GFRP is still somewhat uncompetitive over steel rebar due to their high cost and relatively low elastic modulus, and brittle failure characteristic. If the price of component materials of GFRP rebar is not reduced, it would be another solution to increase the performance of each material to the highest degree. The tensile strength generally decreases with increasing diameter of FRP rebar. One of the reasons is that only fibers except for fibers in center resist the external force due to the lack of force transfer and the deformation of only outer fibers by gripping system. Eliminating fibers in the center, which do not play an aimed role fully, are helpful to reduce the price and finally FRP rebar would be optimized over the price. In this study, the effect of the hollow section in a cross-section of a GFRP rebar was investigated. A GFRP rebar with 19 mm diameter was selected and an analysis was performed for the tensile test results. Parameter was the ratio of hollow section over solid cross-section. Four kinds of hollow sections were planned. A total of 27 specimens, six specimens for each hollow section and three specimens with a solid cross-section were manufactured and tested. The change by the ratio of hollow section over solid cross-section was analyzed and an optimized cross-section design was proposed.
The spherical lens is typically classified by the refractive power into two groups such as (+) diopter lens and (-) diopter lens. The deformation occurred by the external force that is applied to a lens is caused by the increase or the decrease in the diopter of a lens. In this paper, the deformation of the lens was quantitatively measured by using ESPI (Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry) which have been used in the optical measurement field for past few years. ESPI has an advantage that the deformation of an object can be measured precisely by using coherence of the light. The experiment was carried out to the totally 16 types of plastic lens. It was confirmed that the deformation was decreased by increasing the diopter of the lens when same displacement was applied to the lens in case of (+) diopter lens and was increased by decreasing the diopter of the lens in case of (-) diopter lens. Also, it was found that the deformation of (+) diopter lens is less than that of (-) diopter lens. Therefore, with these results, it is expected that the possibility of the quantitative measurement for variation of the optical defect caused by the deformation of a lens when the deformation is occurred to the various types of the lens can be presented and that the application in the lens industrial field can be performed.

The simplified method drawing the S-N curves in welding joints of the cover plates, the transverse stiffners and the gusset plates of the plate girders by calculation and its computer program without the direct fatigue tests, was established. And the method was applied to the Young- Dong Great Bridge, the 3 th Han River Bridge and the Kang Chon Bridge. Before this, SS 41, SS 50, SWS 50 and SWS 58 were selected, then the compact tension specimens were made by the use of these materials, the things welded by these materials transversely and the ones longitudinally to the crack propagation direction. The fatigue tests were performed by the use of these 'specimens, and the values of material constants c and m were obtained. By these results the followings were obtained. It was showed that the fatigue: strength in the case of the cover plates was much lower than in the case of other two cases. It was showed that, in the case of the cover plates with the cover plates thicker the fatigue strength was lower, but besides this the fatigue strength was not much influenced by the size of specimens. It was showed that in the difference from this the fatigue strength was sensitively influenced by the values of c and m. It was showed that in accordance with the lower values of c and m the fatigue strength was fairly higher, in accordance with the lower values of m the gradient of the S-N curves was abrupter. It was considered that if such data were accumulated continuously, in the near future the basic pattern used availably in providing the indicater of the fatigue design of the plate girders, and presuming the life-proof of the existing plate girders.
