  • In bioengineering field, current academic trends and informations on crystallization technology for bioproduct separation were summarized. It is essential for utilizing the crystallization technology to understand the fundamental phenomena of crystallization of crystal nucleation, crystal growth, crystal agglomeration and population balance for the design of crystallizers. In general, the crystal nucleation that the crystalline solids occur from the solution is analyzed by Gibb's free energy change in the aspect of thermodynamics and in the present paper the crystal nucleation models based on the above thermodynamics are summarized by their key characteristics. The crystal growth and agglomeration, which have been studied over 50 years and are essential phenomena for separation technology, are reviewed from their basic concept to most leading edge trend of researches. In the material and population balances for the designs of crystallization separation process, the analysis of crystallizers is summarized. Thereon, the present review paper will academically contribute the understanding the crystallization phenomena and the design of the crystallization separation process.

  • Extrusion is one of the most important operations in the polymer-processing industry. Development of models for extrusion and computer tools offer a route to developing reliable and optimized process designs. The models are based on the analysis of physical phenomena encountered during the process. Balance equations for mass, momentum and energy are fundamental to the problem. A predictive computer model has been developed for the single screw extruders with conventional screws of different geometry. The model takes into account melting zones of the extruder and describes an operation of the extruder system, making it possible to predict mass flow rate of the polymer, pressure and velocity profiles along the extruder screw channel. The simulation parameters are the material and rheological properties of the polymer; the screw pitch, and screw speed.

  • A large scale automated material handling system (AMHS) is simulated using real industrial input data to analyze its performance so that one can scrutinize the critical factors that affect the AS /RS performance. The factors included in this study are line balancing efficiency, the distance between machines, and cycle time of the machines. The performance of AS /RS is measured in terms of R/M utilities that are latter used to classify the AS/RS structure into three types such as Good, Normal, and Poor. Among the three factors considered in this study, the line balance efficiency within each AS/RS is found as the most critical factor which statistically affect the AS/RS performance.

  • This paper describes the optimization of injection molding conditions to minimize sink marks. Sink marks, which refer to a small depression on the surface opposite a thick wall thickness, are often encounted in injection molded plastic parts. Part geometry, material properties and processing conditions during injection molding can affect the sink mark depth. We designed the runner system which is possible balanced filling to cavities using CAE program $Moldflow^{TM}$ and then obtained optimal processing conditions by Taguchi's Robust Design technique. By actual injection molding using optimized mold and molding conditions, it confirmed that sink mark depth decreased zero compared to 1mm level in the conventional mold and process.

  • This study presents a method to predict plant-specific and operational history dependent scaling factors. Realistic and detailed approaches are taken to find scaling factors at reactor coolant. This approach begins with fission product release mechanisms and fundamental release properties of fuel-source nuclide such as fission product and transuranic nuclide. Scaling factors at various waste streams are derived from the predicted reactor coolant scaling factors with the use of radionuclide retention and build up model. This model makes use of radioactive material balance within the radioactive waste processing systems. According to input parameters of plant operation history, scaling factors predicted at reactor coolant and waste streams are well brought out the effects of plant operation history.

  • The exergy analysis on the heat storage performance of the senible heat storage unit which consists of the heat storage material in the concentric annulus and the hot fluid flowing through the inner tube is performed. Heat transfer characteristics which are necessary for the performance of the exergy analysis is obtained from the energy balance equations and the second law of thermodynamics. As the index of heat storage performance, the exergy lossnumber $N_{s}$, and exergy storage ratio from the concepts of the second law of thermodynamics are defined. Results are ovtained for the grometry of the storage unit, the Biot number Bi, ambient temperature $T_{o}$ as parameters. From these results the exergy storage ratio can be considered as the efficiency of the hat storage unit and is introduced as a guide to design.

  • The prediction of crosstalk in one of important problems in estimating the EMC of a system for high speed digital signal transmission. Crosstalk curves are shown in terms of characteristic impedance of lines spacing between lines and rise time of pulse by using general multiple coupled transmission line equation and harmonic-balance method. The coupled symmetrical two-line on dielectric material epoxy-glass FR 4(${\varepsilon}_r$), is fabricated to measure crosstalk occuring at the near end and far end of the passive line. The inter-line is inserted to reduce crosstalk between two microstrip lines. The simulation results and the measurement results are shown and found to be very close.

  • In this paper, thermodynamic design data for heating of double-effect absorption system using LiCl-water for evaporator heating source of sofar energy are investigated for the water-LiCl pair and a comparative study of the water-LiCl pair with the water-LiBr pair is given used for the computer simulation. The computer simulation is based on mass, material and heat balance equations for each part of the system. Coefficients of performance and flow ratios for effects of different operating temperatures are investigated. It is found that the heating COP is higher for the water -LiCl pair than for the water-LiBr pair, and FR is lower for the water-LiCl pair than for the water LiBr pair.

  • The object of this research is to develop a carbon molecular sieve(below CMS) which can separate selectively to convert mixture gases spout at waste landfill into fuel. And this research is meaningful from the viewpoint of a quality improvement of CH$_4$ gas and an utilization of by-product. CMS was prepared using coconut shell powder as starting material and the effects of activators, temperature and modifier on the reaction were investigated in this research. Also, pore diameter, surface area of CMS and adsorption rate were measured and studied by cahn balance and ASAP2010. Its specific surface area and pore distribution were controlled easily at 800^{\circ}C and adsorption rate was very good. The CMS prepared in this research is shown to be able to separate landfill gases very effectively.
