This paper presents a HILS(Hardware-In-the-Loop Simulation) approach for the verification of the OHT (Overhead Hoist Transport) controller in a semiconductor FAB. Since hundreds of OHTs can run simultaneously on the OHT network of a FAB, the full verification of the OHT controller is very essential to guarantee the stableness of the material handling system. The controller needs to fully consider not only normal situations but also abnormal situations that are difficult to predict. For the verification of the controller, we propose a HILS approach using a virtual environment including OHTs on a rail network, which can generate abnormal situations. The proposed HILS approach has been implemented and tested with various examples.

The higher stage of development of plant factory is discussed, that involves technologies such as process control for the plant growth environment, mechanization for material handling, system control for production and computer applications. Further, the advantages of a plant factory include production stabilization, higher production efficiency, and better quality management of products through a shortened growing period, better conditions, lower labor requirements, and easier application of industrial concepts. Finally, to realize the ultimate plant factory using both solar and artificial light, the intelligent approach from control engineering, physiological ecology and artificial intelligence(AI) may be inevitable and introduced based on some works done by authors.

Facility layout is the early stage of system design that requires a mid-term or long-term plan. Since improper facility layout might incur substantial logistics cost including material handling and re-installment costs, due consideration must be given to decisions on facility layout. Facility layout is concerned with low to arrange equipment necessary for production in a given space. Its objective is to minimize the sum of all the products of each equipment's amount of flow multiplied by distance. Facility layout also is related to the issue of NP-complete, i.e., calculated amounts exponentially increase with the increase of the number of equipment. This study discusses Hybrid GA developed, as an algorithm for facility layout, to solve the above-mentioned problems. The algorithm, which is designed to efficiently place equipment, automatically produces a horizontal passageway by the block, if a designer provides the width and length of the space to be handled. In addition, this study demonstrates the validity of the Algorithm by comparing with existing algorithms that have been developed. We present a Hybrid GA approach to the facility layout problem that improves on existing work in terms of solution quality and method. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is able to produce better solution quality and more practical layouts than the ones obtained by applying existing algorithms.

Automated Guided Vehicles(AGVs) are widely used in computer integrated manufacturing(CIM) systems for material handling purposes. Although automated guided vehicles provide higher levels of flexibility and computer integrability, the installations are limited in number and one of the critical reasons lies in the complexity involved in the operation. The main objective of this research is to alleviate this problem by proposing efficient integrated operational control methods for AGV-based CIM systems. Particularly, this research is concerned with the mixed problem of dispatching automated guided vehicles and scheduling machines operation. The proposed dynamic heuristic algorithm uses various priority schemes and relevant information concerning the load of the system, the status of queues, and the position of AGVs in the scheduling process. The scheduling decision process is hierarchical in the sense that different decision criteria are applied sequentially to identify the most appropriate part to be served. This algorithm consists of two sections, the section of part selection by AGVs for the next service whenever an AGV completes the current assignment, and the section of part selection by machines for next service whenever a machine completes the current operation. The proposed algorithm has been compared with other scheduling schemes using the performance measure of mean flow-time and mean tardiness. Simulation results indicate that the proposed algorithm can reduce the mean flow-time and mean tardiness significantly.
Micro catalytic reactors are alternative propulsion device that can be used on a nano satellite. When used with a monopropellant, $H_2O_2$, a micro catalytic reactor needs only one supply system as the monopropellant reacts spontaneously on contact with catalyst and releases heat without external ignition, while separate supply lines for fuel and oxidizer are needed for a bipropellant rocket engine. Additionally, $H_2O_2$ is in liquid phase at room temperature, eliminating the burden of storage for gaseous fuel and carburetion of liquid fuel. In order to design a micro catalytic reactor, an appropriate catalyst material must be selected. Considering the safety concern in handling the monopropellants and reaction performance of catalyst, we selected hydrogen peroxide at volume concentration of 70% and perovskite redox catalyst of lantanium cobaltate doped with strondium. Perovskite catalysts are known to have superior reactivity in reduction-oxidation chemical processes. In particular, lantanium cobaltate has better performance in chemical reactions involving oxygen atom exchange than other perovskite materials. In the present study, a process to prepare perovskite type catalyst, $La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}CoO_3$, and measurement of its propellant decomposition performance in a test reactor are described.
Flexible production system has been expanded to all sectors of economy with the change of labor market and diversification of employment. The unstable employment with irregular work has replaced stable employment with regular work. This study has investigate the impact pathway of the type of employment on health status especially ill-health symptoms experiences. Among the first Korean Working Conditions Survey data, the employee's response data was used to analyze the path way with multiple regression analysis. The result has shown the direct effect of the type of employment on ill-health symptoms experience. Indirect effect of the type of employment was found the pathway via the exposure to noise, high temperature, low temperature, dust, skin contact to chemicals, painful posture, heavy material handling, standing position, repetitive movement of hands. However the exposure to the other hazardous factors such as organic solvent, wholebody vibration, radiation, lifting people, infectious materials were not influenced by the type of employment.
Cross docking is a material handling and distribution concept in which products move directly from receiving dock to shipping dock, without being stored in a warehouse or distribution center. Depending on the facility and operating conditions or strategies employed, it is possible to generate various cross docking scenarios or models. The cross docking model, which is studied in this research, assumes there are a separate receiving dock and a separate shipping dock. It is also assumed that the products contained in a receiving truck and the products needed for a shipping truck are known in advance. Furthermore, the study is restricted to scenarios where there is only one receiving dock and only one shipping dock at the warehouse. The research objective is to find the best truck spotting sequence for both receiving and shipping trucks to minimize total operation time (i.e., the makespan) of the cross docking system.

BIM has been increasingly deployed to the construction industry in order to minimize ambiguity and to reduce errors of the communicated engineering information, for which poor communication due to fragmented industrial structure is mainly responsible. Known BIM use cases and related researches are focusing either (1) on a specialized solution for a given specialty area (e.g. structural engineering planning and early design, material take-off, constructability simulation, etc.), or (2) on handling interoperabillty issues with Industrial Foundation Classes (IFC); Neither of these approaches have sufficiently catered for collaboration and information management in actual construction projects. This paper proposes the strategy for BIM+PMIS (project management information system) system focused on improving PMIS which has been commercially provided with ASP(Application Service Provider). It also describes the architecture of the BIM-based information management module prototype, which is a key component of the BIM+PMIS system.
We present a novel haptic sculpting system where the user intuitively adds to and carves out material from a volumetric model using new sculpting tools in the similar way to handling real clay Haptic rendering and model deformation are implemented based on volumetric implicit surface. We enhance previous volume-based haptic sculpting systems by presenting fast and stable force computation on 3D models to be deformed. In order to bridge the gap between fast haptic process (1 KHz) and much slower visual update frequency(~30Hz), the system generates intermediate implicit surfaces between two consecutive physical models being deformed. It performs collision detection and force computation on the intermediate surface in haptic process. The volumetric model being sculpted is visualized as a geometric model which is adaptively polygonized according to the surface complexity. We also introduce various visual effects for the real-time sculpting system including mesh-based solid texturing, painting, and embossing/engraving techniques.
An experimental work was conducted to develop an optimum operating system of various hay drying systems ; sun-drying with long hay, sun-drying after chopping, sun-drying after crushing, heated air drying after chopping using batch-type dryer and heated air drying after crushing using tunnel-type dryer. Seombody having 60 cm long and initial moisture content of approximately 79 % in wet basis was used for the experiment. The criteria selected for determining the optimum operating condition were the drying performance rate, the production cost and quality of dried matter of each drying systems. The result of this study are summarized as follows : 1. Drying characteristics of leaves of long stem hay, chopped seombody and crushed one were obtained by maintaining the oven temperature at 70 degrees centigrade. The required drying times for various samples to approximately 15% moisture content in wet basis were about 50 min .for leaves ; 160 min. for crushed hay ; 250 min. for chopped hay ; 340min. for ling hay and more than 360 min .for stems. The drying time of crushed hay was required about 50 % of that for the uncrushed long hay. Such a significant difference of drying of time between the leaf and long stem may indicate that an effective drying of seombody may not be achieved unless any kind of special process treatment for the whole hay is undertaken. 2. In each individual drying system, the following conclusions were drawn: a. After 8 days sun-drying on concrete floor under good days with average tempe?rature at $256{\circ}C$ and relative humidity at 55% at 2 P.M., the moisture content of long hay was still above 25 5'~ and the leaf loss during drying caused by wind and rough handling was more than 50 ~G. b. It was possible to dry the chopped seombody by sun-drying down to about 10 % moisture content within 5 days, however, a stock of heat and discolouration phenomena were observed during the drying, which may be due to the increased deposit-density by chopping, resulting in lowering the quality of the dried product. c. Sun-drying for the crushed material by hay-conditioner was required about 4 days to reduce the moisture content to about 10 %, keeping the quality of dried product at good grade. o. The optimum deposit-depth of the chopped seombody in the batch-type dryer used was about 28cm with about 42kg/hr of drying performance rate. However, it was necessary to overturn the materials between the upper and lower layers in order to obtain a good quality of dried product. d. The drying performance rate by the tunnel-type drier was highest among those of drying systems tested, giving the rate of approximately 400kg/day. 3. On reviewing the individual drying system for seombody, it was possible to draw conclusion that the best system was tunnel drying with the crushed seombody as far as the performance rate was concerned. However, the methods gives the highest operational cost. The system for the lowest operational cost with good quality of dried product was the sun-drying with the crushed material. Accordingly, it may be recommended that the system of sun-drying for the crushed seombody may be the most feasible system presently applicable to farm-level operation.
