The thermal contact conductance at different temperatures and with different electrode forces and zinc coating morphology was measured by monitoring the infrared emissions from the one dimensionally simulated contact heat transfer experiments. The contact heat transfer coefficients were presented as a function of the harmonic mean temperature of the two contacting surfaces. Using these contact heat transfer coefficients and experimentally measured temperature profiles, the electrical contact resistivities both for the faying interface and electrode-workpiece interface were deduced from the numerical analyses of the one dimension simulation welding. It was found that the average value of the contact heat transfer coefficients for the material with zinc coating (coating weight from 0 g/$mm^2$to 100 g/$mm^2$) ranges from 0.05 W/$mm^2$$^{\circ}C$ to 2.0 W/$mm^2$$^{\circ}C$ in the temperature range above 5$0^{\circ}C$ harmonic mean temperature of the two contacting surfaces. The electrical contact resistivity deduced from the one dimension simulation welding and numerical analyses showed that the ratio of electrical contact resistivity at the laying interface to the electrical contact resistivity at the electrode interface is smaller than one far both bare steel and zinc coated steel.

This paper deals with the dynamic stability of embedded functionally graded (FG)-carbon nanotubes (CNTs)-reinforced micro cylindrical shells. The structure is subjected to harmonic non-uniform temperature distribution and 2D magnetic field. The CNT reinforcement is either uniformly distributed or FG along the thickness direction where the effective properties of nano-composite structure are estimated through Mixture low. The viscoelastic properties of structure are captured based on the Kelvin-Voigt theory. The surrounding viscoelastic medium is considered nonhomogeneous with the spring, orthotropic shear and damper constants. The material properties of cylindrical shell and the viscoelastic medium constants are assumed temperature-dependent. The first order shear deformation theory (FSDT) or Mindlin theory in conjunction with Hamilton's principle is utilized for deriving the motion equations where the size effects are considered based on Eringen's nonlocal theory. Based on differential quadrature (DQ) and Bolotin methods, the dynamic instability region (DIR) of structure is obtained for different boundary conditions. The effects of different parameters such as volume percent and distribution type of CNTs, mode number, viscoelastic medium type, temperature, boundary conditions, magnetic field, nonlocal parameter and structural damping constant are shown on the DIR of system. Numerical results indicate that the FGX distribution of CNTs is better than other considered cases. In addition, considering structural damping of system reduces the resonance frequency.

This article presents an analysis into the nonlinear forced vibration of a micro cylindrical shell reinforced by carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with considering agglomeration effects. The structure is subjected to magnetic field and transverse harmonic mechanical load. Mindlin theory is employed to model the structure and the strain gradient theory (SGT) is also used to capture the size effect. Mori-Tanaka approach is used to estimate the equivalent material properties of the nanocomposite cylindrical shell and consider the CNTs agglomeration effect. The motion equations are derived using Hamilton's principle and the differential quadrature method (DQM) is employed to solve them for obtaining nonlinear frequency response of the cylindrical shells. The effect of different parameters including magnetic field, CNTs volume percent and agglomeration effect, boundary conditions, size effect and length to thickness ratio on the nonlinear forced vibrational characteristic of the of the system is studied. Numerical results indicate that by enhancing the CNTs volume percent, the amplitude of system decreases while considering the CNTs agglomeration effect has an inverse effect.
Sea waves induce significant pressures on coastal surfaces, especially on rocky vertical cliffs or breakwater structures (Peregrine 2003). In the present work, this hydrodynamic pressure is considered as the excitation acting on a piezoelectric material sheet, installed on a vertical cliff, and connected to an external electric circuit (on land). The whole hydro/piezo/electric system is modeled in the context of linear wave theory. The piezoelectric elements are assumed to be small plates, possibly of stack configuration, under a specific wiring. They are connected with an external circuit, modeled by a complex impedance, as usually happens in preliminary studies (Liang and Liao 2011). The piezoelectric elements are subjected to thickness-mode vibrations under the influence of incident harmonic water waves. Full, kinematic and dynamic, coupling is implemented along the water-solid interface, using propagation and evanescent modes (Athanassoulis and Belibassakis 1999). For most energetically interesting conditions the long-wave theory is valid, making the effect of evanescent modes negligible, and permitting us to calculate a closed-form solution for the efficiency of the energy harvesting system. It is found that the efficiency is dependent on two dimensionless hydro/piezo/electric parameters, and may become significant (as high as 30 - 50%) for appropriate combinations of parameter values, which, however, corresponds to exotically flexible piezoelectric materials. The existence or the possibility of constructing such kind of materials formulates a question to material scientists.
In the previous paper (Hyun et al.,2002), we have investigated the shape of storage modulus (G') and loss modulus (G") of complex fluids under large amplitude oscillatory shear (LAOS) flow. As the strain amplitude increases, owever, the stress curve becomes distorted and some important information may be smothered during data processing. Thus we need to investigate the stress data more precisely and systematically. In this work, we have obtained the stress data using high performance ADC (analog digital converting) card, and investigated the nonlinear response of complex fluids, 4wt% xanthan gum (XG), 2 wt% PVA/ 1 wt% Borax, and 1 wt% hyaluronic acid (HA) solutions, using Fourier transformation (FT) rheology. Comparing the strain signals in time domain with FT parameters in frequency domain, we could illustrate the sensitivity and importance of FT rheology. Diverse and unique stress patterns were observed depending on the material system as well as flow environment. It was found that they are not the outcome of experimental deficiency like wall slip but characteristics of the material system. When nonlinear response of complex fluids is analyzed, the intensity and phase angle of higher harmonic contributions should be considered together, and the shape of the stress signal was found to be strongly dependent upon phase angle.ngle.
Since the functionally graded materials (FGMs) are used extensively as thermal barriers in many of applications. Therefore, the current article focuses on studying and presenting dynamic responses of multilayer functionally graded (FG) deep beams placed in a thermal environment that is not addressed elsewhere. The material properties of each layer are proposed to be temperature-dependent and vary continuously through the height direction based on the Power-Law function. The deep layered beam is exposed to harmonic sinusoidal load and temperature rising. In the modelling of the multilayered FG deep beam, the two-dimensional (2D) plane stress continuum model is used. Equations of motion of deep composite beam with the associated boundary conditions are presented. In the frame of finite element method (FEM), the 2D twelve-node plane element is exploited to discretize the space domain through the length-thickness plane of the beam. In the solution of the dynamic problem, Newmark average acceleration method is used to solve the time domain incrementally. The developed procedure is verified and compared, and an excellent agreement is observed. In numerical examples, effects of graduation parameter, geometrical dimension and stacking sequence of layers on the time response of deep multilayer FG beams are investigated with temperature effects.
Laminated composite shells are commonly used in various engineering applications including aerospace and marine structures. In this paper, using semi-analytical finite strip method, the buckling behavior of laminated composite deep as well as thick shells of revolution under follower forces which remain normal to the shell is investigated. The stiffness caused by pressure is calculated for the follower forces subjected to external fibers in thick shells. The shell is divided into several closed strips with alignment of their nodal lines in the circumferential direction. The governing equations are derived based on first-order shear deformation theory which accounts for through thickness-shear flexibility. Displacements and rotations in the middle surface of shell are approximated by combining polynomial functions in the meridional direction as well as truncated Fourier series with an appropriate number of harmonic terms in the circumferential direction. The load stiffness matrix which accounts for variation of loads direction will be derived for each strip of the shell. Assembling of these matrices results in global load stiffness matrix which may be un-symmetric. Upon forming linear elastic stiffness matrix called constitutive stiffness matrix, geometric stiffness matrix and load stiffness matrix, the required elements for the second step analysis which is an eigenvalue problem are provided. In this study, different parameter effects are investigated including shell geometry, material properties, and different boundary conditions. Afterwards, the outcomes are compared with other researches. By considering the results of this article, it can be concluded that the deformation-dependent pressure assumption can entail to decrease the calculated buckling load in shells. This characteristic is studied for different examples.
