The use of imported structural steel tubes has been increased in domestic construction field because of its low price, but the mechanical properties of those steel tube are not verified exactly. This study includes coupon test and stub - column compression test on the structural steel tube. The compression test of stub - column was performed to characterize and quantify the material characteristic and strength of column compatibility, in which we compared the experiment formula and the abstract formula by the application of the LRFD standard formula and multiple column curve.
Mechanical properties of shell powder containing mixed recycled plastics were investigated depending on the shell content and surface modification. First, shell powder and LDPE were compounded using the twin screw extruder to manufacture 40 wt% master batch(M/B), and the M/B was blended with LDPE to produce bulk specimens with 10, 20, 30 and 40 wt% shell content. To improve the compatibility of shell powder with mixed recycled plastics matrix, surface of shell powder was chemically modified with cations or cationic surfactant. Surface modified shell was also used to prepare bulk specimens with the same shell content. Mechanical property analysis showed obvious improvement for the surface modified shell containing bulk specimens compared to unmodified ones. These results can lead to the development of new applications for the mixed recycled plastics.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate histologically the resorption and tissue response of various resorbale membranes used for guided tissue regneration procedures, using a subcutaneous model on the dorsal surface of the rat. In this study, 12 Sprague-Dawley male rats(mean BW 150gm) were used and the commercially available materials included dense collagen membrane, freeze-dried bovine dura mater loos collagen membrane, PLA/PLGA membrane. Animals were sacrificed at 3, 6 and 8 weeks after implantation of various resorbable membranes. Specimens were prepared with Hematoxylin-Eosin stain for light microscopic evaluation. The results of this study were as follows: 1. Resorption : Loose collagen membrane group was resorbed most rapidly. Dense collagen membrane group and freeze-dried bovine dura mater group were rarely resorbed. 2. Inflammatory reactions : PLA/PLGA membrane group showed persistent and severe inflammatory reactions for 3 to 8 weeks. Moderate inflammatory reactions and the ectopic formation of calcified material were observed in dense collagen membrane group. Freeze-dried bovine dura mater group and loose collagen membrane group showed mild inflammatory reactions 3. In PLA/PLGA membrane group, multinucleated giant cells by foreign body reactions were observed. In conclusion, the resorption of freeze-dried bovine dura mater didn't happen for 3-6weeks, which showed the best bio-compatibility. Therefore, freeze-dried bovine dura mater was considered proper resorbable membrane for guided tissue regeneration.
In this study, the permeability reduction in the soil-filter systems due to clogging phenomenon was evaluated. An extensive research program was performed using two typical weathered residual soils which were sampled at Shinnae-dong and Poi-dong area in Seoul. Two separate simulation tests with weathered residual soil were performed: one was the filtration test(cross-plane flow test); and the other was the drainage material in the field. The compatibility of the sol-filter system was investigated with emphasis on the clogging phenomenon. The hydraulic behaviour of the soil-filter system was evaluated by changing several testing conditions. Also, experimental results of the permeability reduction are compared with the results obtained from the theoretical model which can monitor the spatial variation of the permeability with time.
The microwave dielectric properties and low temperature sintering of $Ca[Ti_{1-x}(Ni_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})_x]O_3$ system were investigated at the sintering temperature $1,200\~1,350^{\circ}C$. The density and quality factors $(Q{\times}f)$ increased while dielectric constants slightly decreased with the decrease of Ti. The dielectric constant, quality factor, and temperature coefficient of resonance frequency $(\tau_f)$ were 64, 17,000 GHz, and $-9.1\;ppm/^{\circ}C$ respectively, when $CaTi_{1/2}(Ni_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})_{1/2}O_3$ ceramics were sintered at $1,300^{\circ}C$ for 4 h. $2Li_2O-B_2O_3$ was added to $CaTi_{1/2}(Ni_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})_{1/2}O_3$ to decrease the sintering temperature for LTCC application. The microwave dielectric properties of the samples sintered at $925^{\circ}C$ for 2 h with the addition of $6\;wt\%\;2Li_2O-B_2O_3$ were $\varepsilon_r=48.7,\;Q{\times}f=8,460\;GHz$, and $\tau_f=+5.6ppm/^{\circ}C$. Compatibility test of the composition with silver electrode shows no reaction with silver electrode, implying the feasibility as a high-K LTCC material.
Cement zero concrete produced by alkali-activators and industrial by-products such as slag instead of cement, enables to solve the environmental pollution problems provoked by the exhaustion of natural resources and energy as well as the discharge of carbon dioxide. However, researches on the cement zero concrete are still limited to material studies and thus, study on the structural behavior of relevant members is essential to use the cement zero concrete as structural materials. This paper aims to evaluate experimentally and analytically the flexural behavior of RC beams using 50 MPa alkali activated slag concrete. To achieve such a goal, flexural tests on three types of RC beam specimens were conducted. A nonlinear analysis model is proposed using the modulus of elasticity and stress-strain relationship of alkali activated slag concrete. The analysis results obtained by the proposed model agree well with the experimental results, which could verify the validity of the proposed model.
This study investigates the property of graphene filled polymer nanocomposites in LEO(Low Earth orbit) environment conditions. In order to improve compatibility with polymer matrices and resistance of carbon material against AO(Atomic oxygen) attack, silanization of graphene oxide with organosilane was carried out. The corresponding moieties were characterized through X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Graphene oxide filled nanocomposites were prepared using solution based processing methods. The sets of specimen series were tested in an accelerated LEO simulated space environment facility. Graphene oxide and silane treated graphene oxide reinforced nanocomposites were compared with neat epoxy. The comparison revealed that the silane treated graphene filled polymer composite shows inherent resistance against atomic oxygen attack while the lack of silane treatment resulted in a reduction in performance.

An impeller is difficult to machine due to the complex, overlapping and twisted shapes that form the blades of an impeller. Therefore, most CAM software companies have developed a CAM module for manufacturing an impeller in addition to their CAM software. However, it is not easy for inexperienced users to machine impellers. The purpose of this paper is to outline the development of an automatic CAM module for the manufacturing of an impeller (E-ICAM) which is based on visual basic language and which uses a CATIA graphical environment in order to simplify the machining of impellers. The automatic CAM module generates a tool path and proposes the recommended cutting condition according to the stock and tool material. In addition, it includes a post-processor for five-axis control machining. Therefore, a user can easily machine impellers using this automation module. There are two types of impellers: the closed and open types. The closed-type impeller consists of the body and cover parts. To combine these two parts, it is necessary to create tap holes on the shroud of the body. Therefore, in the study, a drilling CAM program for a closed-type impeller is developed and manufactured by creating NC data from the developed drilling program. After manufacturing the test specimen, its compatibility was verified.

In this paper, we analyzed and evaluated noise suppression characteristic of EM wave absorber. We fabricated several absorber samples in different ratios of Sendust and Amorphous with CPE(Chlorinated Ploy-ethylene) as binder and calculated material constants by measured S-parameter. Then, we confirmed that the noise suppression characteristic of EM wave absorbers using microstrip line. A microstrip line with EM wave absorber placed on its top was used to evaluate the conduction noise suppression. As a result, noise suppression effect show different charateristic by changing relative permeability. Therefore, EM wave absorber using Sendust show excellent characteristic. In particular the maximum power absorption over 90 % in 1.7 GHz to over 6 GHz has obtained when composition of Sendust:CPE=80:20wt.%.
Biodegradable polymeric blends are expected to be widely used by industry due to their environmental friendliness and comparable mechanical and thermal properties. Poly (lactic acid) (PLA) and poly (butylene succinate) (PBS) are such biodegradable polymers which aim to replace commodity polymers in future applications. Since cost and brittleness of PLA is quite high, it is not economically feasible to use it alone for day to day use as a packaging material without blending. In this study, blends of PLA and PBS with various compositions were prepared by using a laboratory-scale twin-screw extruder at $180^{\circ}C$. Morphological, thermal, rheological and mechanical properties were investigated on the samples obtained by compression molding to explore suitability of these compositions for packaging applications. Morphology of the blends was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Morphology showed a clear phase difference trend depending on blend composition. Modulated differential scanning calorimetry (MDSC) thermograms of the blends indicated that the glass transition temperature ($T_g$) of PLA did not change much with the addition of PBS, but analysis showed that for PLA/PBS blend of up to 80/20 composition there is partial miscibility between the two polymers. The tensile strength and modulus were measured by the Instron Universal Testing Machine. Tensile strength, modulus and percentage (%) elongation at break of the blends decreased with PBS content. However, tensile strength and modulus values of PLA/PBS blend for up to 80/20 composition nearly follow the mixing rule. Rheological results also show miscibility between the two polymers for PBS composition less than 20% by weight. PBS reduced the brittleness of PLA, thus making it a contender to replace plastics for packaging applications. This work found a partial miscibility between PBS and PLA by investigating thermal, mechanical and morphological properties.
