  • In this paper, the solutions of TE (transverse electric) scattering problems by a conductive strip grating over grounded two dielectric layers are analyzed by applying the PMM (point matching method) known as a numerical method of electromagnetic fileld. The boundary conditions are applied to obtain the unknown field coefficients, the scattered electromagnetic fields are expanded in a series of Floquet mode functions, and the conductive boundary condition apply to analysis of conducting strip. The most normalized reflected powers of the sharp variations in minimum values are scattered in direction of the other angles except incident angle. The numerical results for normalized reflected power are analyzed by according as the width and spacing of conductive strip, the relative permittivity and thickness of the two dielectric layers, and incident angles. The numerical results of present numericl analysis are shown in good agreement compared to those of the existing papers using FGMM (fourier galerkin moment method).

  • Currently, active research is being performed on printing of electronic devices such as RFID devices, flexible displays, solar cells, and e-paper. This technique has several advantages over existing technologies such as lithography and etching. In particular, RFID devices, flexible displays, solar cells, and e-paper require flexibility and a mass production system. Thus, attention is being focused on the roll-to-roll process. High quality should be guaranteed in the roll-to-roll printed electronics systems, and good thickness and roughness qualities must be ensured. Experimental design was applied to this problem to analyze the main effects and interaction effects of various factors. Matching technology between the nip roll characteristics and the quality of the print pattern in roll-to-roll printed electronics systems was proposed to improve the printing quality.

  • The design of radar absorbing structures(RAS) is a discrete optimization problem and is usually processed by stochastic optimization methods. The calculation of radar cross section(RCS) should be decreased to improve the efficiency of designing RAS. In this paper, an efficient method using impedance matching is studied to design RAS for minimizing RCS. Input impedance of the minimal RCS for the specified wave incident conditions is obtained by interlocking physical optics(PO) and optimizations. Complex permittivity and thickness of RAS are designed to satisfy the calculated input impedance by a discrete optimization. The results reveal that the studied method attains the same results as stochastic optimization which have to conduct numerous RCS analysis. The efficiency of designing RAS can be enhanced by reducing the calculation of RCS.

  • The main goal of this paper is to determine hydraulic properties and to predict drawdown for the efficient and stable development of groundwater in the Daejong-Chun area, North of Kyungsang-Do. Based on geological survey and analysis of well logging data conducted in 1991, it is found that the type of aquifer of this area is considered to be an anisotropic unconfined aquifer with saturated thickness of 19.8 m. In order to characterize this aquifer pumping test was conducted, and the resulting drawdown data were utilized for the analysis by applying both type curve matching technique and semi-log straight line method. As a result, the average specific yield of this aquifer is estimated as 32.3%, and the average ratio of $K_H$ to $K_V$ is only 2.7, which means that gravitational effect is not significant factor for this type of aquifer. For the validation of the estimated hydraulic properties, the analytical model which was developed with Newton-Raphson iteration procedure in this study, was employed to generate the drawdown. And, the resulting drawdown was compared against actual drawdown data and it shows the excellent matches. The actual drawdown data for 9 hours of pumping were used for history matching purposes and relatively satisfactory matches were achieved in this match. Then, the model was run by using the tuned parameters that are obtained during history matching stage, and the drawdown was predicted for the next 30 years of pumping with $3,000m^3/day$ of constant pumping rate. Its result indicates that the drawdown was stabilized as 1.41 m from 20 days with $3,000m^3/day$ of constant pumping rate, which is the required amount of water to be safely supplied to this area.

  • In this paper, the solutions of TE(transverse electric) scattering problems by a condutive strip grating over a dielectric layer are analyzed by using the FGMM(fourier galerkin moment method) and PMM(point matching method) known as a numerical method of electromagnetic fileld. The scattered electromagnetic fields are expanded in a series of floguet mode functions, the boundary conditions are applied to obtain the unknown field coefficients, and the conductive boundary condition is used for the relationship between the tangential electric field and the induced surface current density on the strip. The numerical results for the reflected and transmitted power of zeroth mode analyzed by according as the width and spacing of conductive strip, the relative permittivity and thickness of dielectric layer, and incident angles. Generally, according to the relative permittivity of dielectric layer increased, also the normalized reflected power of zeroth mode increased. To examine the accruacy of this paper, the numerical results of FGMM shown in good agreement compared to those of PMM.

  • Magnetic and Ka-band absorbing properties have been investigated in Ti-Co substituted M-type barium hexaferrites with $BaTi_{0.5}Co_{0.5}Fe_{11}O_{19}$ composition. The ferrite powders were prepared by conventional ceramic processing technique and used as absorbent fillers in ferrite-rubber composites. The magnetic properties were measured by vibrating sample magnetometer. The complex permeability and dielectric constant were measured by using the WR-28 rectangular waveguide and network analyzer in the frequency range 26.5~40 GHz. For the Ti-Co substituted M-hexaferrites, the ferromagnetic resonance is observed at Ka-band (29.4 GHz). The matching frequency and matching thickness are determined by using the solution map of impedance matching. A wide band microwave absorbance is predicted with controlled ferrite volume fraction and absorber thickness.

  • Objectives: This study analyzed the difference in color caused by different thickness in enamel layer of composite resins when applied with single and layering placement technique, and evaluated if the results agreed with the shade guide from the manufacturers to verify reliability of the color matching process of the manufacturers. Materials and Methods: For single composite resin samples, 6 mm diameter and 4 mm thickness cylindrical samples were fabricated using Ceram-X mono (DENTSPLY DeTrey) and CIE $L^*a^*b^*$ values were measured with spectrophotometer. Same process was done for layering composite resin samples, making 3 dentinal shade samples, 4 mm thickness, for each shade using Ceram-X duo (DENTSPLY DeTrey) and enamel shade resins were layered in 2 mm thickness and CIE $L^*a^*b^*$ values were measured. These samples were ground to 0.2 mm thickness each time, and CIE $L^*a^*b^*$ values were measured to 1 mm thickness of enamel shade resin. Results: Color difference (${\Delta}E^*$) between single and layering composite resin was 1.37 minimum and 10.53 maximum when layering thicknesses were between 1 mm and 2 mm and 6 out of 10 same shade groups suggested by manufacturer showed remarkable color difference at any thickness (${\Delta}E^*$ > 3.3). Conclusion: When using Ceram-X mono and duo for composite resin restoration, following the manufacturer's instructions for choosing the shade is not appropriate, and more accurate information for Ceram-X duo is needed on the variation and expression of the shades depending on the thickness of the enamel.

  • An improved crystal rotation method with increased accuracy and range is proposed and experimentally verified for simultaneous measurement of molecular tilt angle and thickness of LC (liquid crystal) layer of an LC cell. The improvement is brought about by direct determination of difference between phases instead of intensities of two components of orthogonal linear polarization of the light passing through an LC cell filled with uniformly oriented molecules. By comparing the experimental data with theoretical result the thickness and pretilt angle are determined more precisely. Further improvement is brought about by use of a liquid gate filled with an index matching liquid in which the LC cell is immersed. Because of the index matching liquid reflection of light at the surfaces of an LC cell almost completely disappears and the range of angle of refraction in the LC layer increases significantly, which gives rise to increased signal to noise ration as well as decreased statistical error. With this improvement precise measurement for either very thin (<10 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$) and/or higher pretilt angle($\geq$10$^{\circ}$) LC cells become possible.
