  • In this paper, we develop the Jeffreys' prior, reference priors and the probability matching priors for the intraclass correlation coefficient of a symmetric normal distribution. We next verify propriety of posterior distributions under those noninformative priors. We examine whether reference priors satisfy the probability matching criterion.

  • This study determines matching size for digital elevation model (DEM) production according to land cover property from IKONOS Geo-level stereo image. We applied area based matching method using correlation coefficient of pixel brightness value between the two images. After matching line (where "matching line" implies straight line that is approximated to complex non-linear epipolar geometry) is established by exterior orientation parameters to minimize search area, the matching is carried out based on this line. The experiment is performed according to land cover property, which is divided off into four areas (water, urban land, forest land and agricultural land). In each of the test areas, matching size is selected using a correlation-coefficient image and parallax image. As the results, optimum matching size of the images was selected as $81{\times}81$ pixels window, $21{\times}21$ pixels window, $119{\times}119$ pixels window and $51{\times}51$ pixels window in the water area, urban land, forest land and agricultural land, respectively.

  • The location template matching (LTM) method is a technique of identifying an impact location on a structure, and is often applied to structural health monitoring and large scale human-computer interface (HCI) systems. The LTM method utilizes a certain measure of similarity between two time signals. The correlation coefficient is most widely used for this purpose, and the group delay based method is recently proposed to improve the accuracy of finding the best matching pair of signals. In practice, one of key essential consideration for implementing the LTM method is to guarantee that a sufficient number of vibration modes must be contained in the measured signal, and yet the lower sampling rate is needed for a real-time implementation. In this paper, the properties of correlation coefficient and group delay with respect to the number of vibration modes are investigated. A few important results are obtained through extensive computer simulations and experiments. If the number of vibration modes contained in the measured signal is more than four it is sufficient for the correlation based LTM method, while the group delay based LTM method requires smaller number of vibration modes.

  • This paper introduces a correlation-based surface matching algorithm that can be used to reconstruct the surface topography of an object that is scanned from multiple overlapping regions by an AFM. The image matching technique is applied to two neighboring images intentionally overlapped with each other. To account for the inaccuracy of the coarse stage implemented in AFM, all the six axes including the rotational degrees of freedom are successively matched to maximize the correlation coefficient. The results show that the proposed 6-axes image matching method is useful for expanding the measurement range of AFM.

  • We investigated the structure of inductive coupler and its magnetic coupling to increase the transmission coefficient for power line communication. A Rogowski coil, which is an air-cored inductive coupler, and a magnetic cored coupler were fabricated to analyze the transmission coefficient for different coupler parameters. This paper proposes the impedance matching method using lumped elements and an impedance transformer to increase the transmission coefficient. In the experiment, the transmission coefficient of the proposed system was increased in both narrowband and broadband cases, and a trade-off between the transmission coefficient and the bandwidth was shown. This method will be useful for the further study of impedance matching with the load variation.

  • 0.65 mol% MgO-doped LiNbO$_3$single crystals were grown by CZ method. The obtained single crystals were colorless and transparent. Noncritically phase-matched second harmonic generation (SHG) of 532-nm radiation from 1064-nm in MgO-doped LiNbO$_3$has been investigated by using pulsed Nd:YAG laser. The phase-matching temperature was room temperature. SHG conversion efficiencies were typically achieved higher than 50% at the phase-matching temperature with no photorefractive damage in the region of fundamental power density which was used in this experiment. The thermo-birefringence coefficient and the electro-birefringence coefficient of SHG were calculated from the temperature phase-matching profile with the electric field.

  • Measuring similarity between two signals is a key element of the location template matching (LTM) method which is one of impact source localization technique. As a measure of similarity, the correlation coefficient is most widely used, and the group delay based method is recently proposed to improve the accuracy of finding the impact source. In practice, the LTM method assumes that the similarity between two signals decreases as the distance between two corresponding impact points increases, where the distance between two neighboring impact points defines the grid spacing. In this paper, it is shown that this assumption is not always true but the correlation coefficients fluctuate forming a main robe and many side robes as the distance between two neighboring impact points increases. On the other hand, the standard deviation of group delay sharply increases with a small increase of the grid spacing. These are demonstrated by using a simple cantilever beam. Based on these findings, an optimal way of implementing the LTM method may be suggested by combining the correlation coefficient and the group delay based approaches.

  • In the stagewise arithmetic orthogonal matching pursuit algorithm, the weak threshold used in sparsity estimation is determined via maximum iterations. Different maximum iterations correspond to different thresholds and affect the performance of the algorithm. To solve this problem, we propose an improved variable weak threshold based on the stagewise arithmetic orthogonal matching pursuit algorithm. Our proposed algorithm uses the residual error value to control the weak threshold. When the residual value decreases, the threshold value continuously increases, so that the atoms contained in the atomic set are closer to the real sparsity value, making it possible to improve the reconstruction accuracy. In addition, we improved the generalized Jaccard coefficient in order to replace the inner product method that is used in the stagewise arithmetic orthogonal matching pursuit algorithm. Our proposed algorithm uses the covariance to replace the joint expectation for two variables based on the generalized Jaccard coefficient. The improved generalized Jaccard coefficient can be used to generate a more accurate calculation of the correlation between the measurement matrixes. In addition, the residual is more accurate, which can reduce the possibility of selecting the wrong atoms. We demonstrate using simulations that the proposed algorithm produces a better reconstruction result in the reconstruction of a one-dimensional signal and two-dimensional image signal.

  • With the development of industry and standard of living, the quantity of groundwater consumption has been increasing. For the analysis of groundwater, to determine the hydraulic parameters of aquifer is very important. Various numerical methods have been developed to solve aquifer tests and eliminate the subjectivity of traditional graphical type curve methods. The slope-matching method, which matches the slope of the Theis type curve to the slope of the field data, can be used to numerically solve pump tests for both leaky and nonleaky aquifers. A FORTRAN program on based slope-matching method was developed to obtain the transmissivity, storage coefficient, and leaky factor from pumping test data automatically. Results derived from published data show that the improved slope-matching method gives parameters close to the ones derived by the slope-matching method.

  • The demand for stable plasma has been on the rise because of the increased delivery power amount in the chamber for improving productivity, and fast and accurate plasma impedance matching become a crucial performance measure for radio frequency (RF) power system in semiconductor manufacturing equipment. In this paper, the overall impedance matching was understood, and voltage and current values were extracted with voltage - current (VI) probe to measure plasma impedance in real-time. Actual matching data were analyzed to derive calibration coefficient for V and I measurements to understand the characteristics of VI probe, and we demonstrated the tendency of RF impedance matching according to changes in load impedance. This preliminary empirical research can contribute to fast RF matching as well as advanced equipment control for the next level of detailed investigation on embedded system based-RF matching controller.
