Comparison Study of MBA Education between China and Japan

  • Master of Business Administration (MBA) education is growing rapidly in China, while many business schools in Japan are having difficulty in recruiting new students. The MBA education in China and Japan followed a different course and showed very different trends. In this article, we make a comparative study of MBA education in China and Japan. The emphasis is put on analyzing the reasons that caused the difference in the MBA education in the two Asian countries. We trace back the development of MBA education in China and Japan, examining the MBA education from the viewpoint of social environment, enterprise culture, and government support and control as well as the incentive and faculty management system of universities.

Curriculum Development of MSN-MBA Dual Degree Program (MSN/MBA 이중학위 프로그램 개발)

  • Purpose: This study aimed at curriculum development of master of science in nursing(MSN) and master of business administration(MBA) dual degree program. Method: This study performed a comprehensive review of 36 foreign MSN/MBA dual degree programs and 5 MBA programs in Korea, and analyzed philosophy, objectives, required credits to graduation, core subjects and electives, admission criteria of the programs. Results: The proposal of dual degree program consisted of 60 credits which are divided into 24 nursing credits and 36 business administration credits. Another program for graduate school of nursing are composed of 38 credits which includes consists of 14 nursing credits, 20 management credits, and 4 prerequisites. condusion: The curriculum that was proposed in this study will equip nurses to meet the challenges of future healthcare provision and will be a model to other areas of nursing practice and curriculum development.

CEO Characteristics and Firm Performance: A Study of Saudi Arabia Listed Firms

  • This paper aims to investigate the impact of chief executive officer's (CEO) attributes on firms' performance. Specifically, it examines the influence of CEOs' education, professional experience, and tenure on Saudi firms' performance. We look at a sample of 120 listed firms on Tadawul stock exchange from 2014 to 2017. Data on financial and accounting variables are obtained from the annual reports of the selected companies. We follow the existing empirical literature and use a panel model and formulate three different equations using the GMM estimator. Findings prove that CEO educational background does matter. In particular, companies employing CEOs with business administration, economics, finance, or accounting degree will perform outstandingly better. Similarly, stock performance gets improved when the CEO has a postgraduate qualification, i.e., when the CEO holds an MBA, a master, or a PhD degree. Besides, results reveal that executives who have an experience in a related field will positively affect the firm's performance. Finally, evidence shows that high CEOs tenure improves corporate performance. Overall, these findings demonstrate that executives' attributes are key factors that would explain differences in Saudi firms' performance. These results would help shareholders to make the right decision in selecting CEOs to manage the company.

An Exploratory Study on the Business Model for Career and Academic Counseling in Non-Urban High Schools (비도시권 고등학교 학생을 위한 진로교육 비즈니스 모형에 관한 탐색적 연구)

  • Career and academic Counseling is often viewed as the catalyst for frequent and consistent interaction with students, but it is more than simply advising students about which majors, universities or jobs to consider. Ongoing, personal contact of career and academic counselors with students is an essential component in long-term career-related efficacy. But statistics show that high schools in non-urban or rural areas face significant issues different from those schools in metropolitan or suburban contexts, failing to maintain the significant number of teachers enough for effective career and academic counseling. This article proposes an alternative model of career and academic counseling, provided by MBA(Master of Business Administration) alumni based social enterprise in Seoul. This service explores the skills, knowledge and capabilities which MBA alumni gained from their jobs and MBA programs within the context of a career-competency framework. This paper concludes with the social and educational aspect of this shared responsibility strategy that may enhance student motivation and persistence in non-urban high schools.
