Azole fungicides are one of the most wide-spread antifungal compounds in agriculture and pharmaceutical applications. Their major mode of action is the inhibition of ergosterol biosynthesis, giving depletion of ergosterol, precursors and abnormal steroids. However, metabolic consequences of such inhibition, other than steroidal metabolitesare not well established. Comprehensive metabolic profiles of Saccharomyces cerevisiae has been presented in this study. Wild type yeast was treated either with glucose as control or azole fungicide (ketoconazole). Both polar metabolites and lipids were analyzed with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Approximately over 180 metabolites were characterized, among which 18 of them were accumulated or depleted by fungicide treatment. Steroid profile gives the most prominent differences, including the accumulation of lanosterol and the depletion of zymosterol and ergosterol. However, the polar metabolite profile was also highly different in pesticide treatment. The concentration of proline and its precursors, glutamate and ornithine were markedly reduced by ketoconazole. Lysine and glycine level was also decreased while the concentrations of serine and homoserine were increased. The overall metabolic profile indicates that azole fungicide treatment induces the depletion of many polar metabolites, which are important in stress response.
Purpose: To investigate the effect of progressive resistance training (PRT) on body composition, physical fitness, quality of life, lipid and nutritional profile of patients on hemodialysis (HD). Methods: A non equivalent comparison group pretest and posttest design study was used with 40 participants who were randomly assigned to the exercise group (20 participants) and the comparison group (20 participants). The exercise group received PRT for 30 minutes per session, 3 sessions a week, for 12 weeks, while the comparison group received usual care. The PRT consisted of upper and lower body exercises using elastic bands and sandbags. Outcome measures evaluated were: body composition, physical fitness, quality of life, and lipid profile. Results: Skeletal muscle mass, grip, leg muscle strength, and quality of life all improved significantly in the exercise group. Body fat rate, total cholesterol and triglyceride rate decreased significantly in the exercise group. Conclusion: These results suggest that PRT improves body composition, physical fitness, quality of life, and lipid profile of patients on HD. PRT using elastic bands and sandbags can be utilized as part of a regular care plan for these patients.
A state-of-the-art mechanistic model has been developed to accurately predict the void fraction in the subcooled boiling region having axial nonuniform heat flux. In this study, the void-dependent drift-flux parameters of the Lahey/Ohkawa model were introduced and the mass flux-dependent condensation coefficient were determined by fitting with the experimental data. This model was tested against several experimental data sets to verify its accuracy. Finally the comparison between the predicted void fraction profiles with this model and the profile-fit model for the hot assembly of Kori-Unit 1, Cycle 1 has been performed. It is conclusive that the results show the good agreement between the measured and predicted void fractions, and the profile-fit model has been found to underestimate the void fraction in the subcooled boiling region.
In this study, the method of Cheema et al., which is used to decide stable width and depth of the small alluvial rivers, is improved to consider the stability of mass failure and shear failure of the bank effectively. This improved method is applied to the actual rivers, and this result is compared with the result of the method of Cheema et at.. While the method of Cheema et al. could be applied to the alluvial rivers with channel width below 50m, this improved method shows good results in estimating stable width and depth up to 200m. Therefore, this improved method can be suggested as an effective technique in the profile design of small alluvial rivers.

The old technique of sandblasting which has been used for decoration of glass surface has recently been developed into a powder blasting technique for brittle materials such as glass, silicon and ceramics, capable of producing micro structures larger than 100${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. In this study, we introduced oblique powder blasting, and investigated the effect of the impacting angle of particles, the scanning times and the stand-off distance on the surface roughness and the weight-loss rate of samples with no mask, and the wall profile and overetching of samples with different mask pattern in powder blasting of soda-lime glass. The varying parameters were the different impact angles between 50$^{\circ}$ and 90$^{\circ}$, scanning times of nozzle up to 40 and the stand-off distances 70mm and 100mm. The widths of mask pattern were 0.2mm, 0.5mm and 1mm. The powder was alumina sharp particles, WA #600. The mass flow rate of powder during the erosion test was fixed constant at 175g/min and the blasting pressure of powder at 0.2Mpa.

Germanium (Ge) with higher carrier mobility and a lower crystallization temperature has been considered as the channel material of thin-film transistors for display applications. Various methods were studied for crystallizaion of poly-Ge from amorphous Ge at low temperature. Especially Metal induced crystalliazation (MIC) process was widely studied because low process cost. In this paper, we investigate copper diffusion process of different thick (70 nm, 350 nm) poly-Ge film obtained by MIC process at various temperatures (250, 300, and $350^{\circ}C$) through atomic force microscopy (AFM), Raman spectroscopy, and secondary ion mass spectroscopy (SIMS) measurement. Crystallization completeness and grain size was similar in all the conditions. Copper diffusion profile of 370 nm poly-Ge film show simirly results regardless of process temperature. However, copper diffusion profile of 70 nm poly-Ge film show different results by process temperature.
Three-dimensional flow through a tubular centrifugal fan with airfoil type blades is analyzed, and the effects of turbulence model and numerical scheme on the results are investigated. Standard $k-{\epsilon}$ model and k - w model are tested as turbulence closures. The numerical schemes for convection terms, i.e., Upwind Differencing Scheme (UDS), Mass Weighted Skewed upstream differencing scheme (MWS), Linear Profile Skewed upstream differencing scheme (LPS), and Modified Linear Profile Skewed upstream differencing scheme (MLPS) are also tested, and the performances of these schemes coupled with two turbulence models are evaluated. The static pressure distributions are compared with experimental data obtained in this work, which shows that the $k-{\epsilon}$ model gives better results than the k-w model.
There has been considerable research dealing with the influence of surface roughness along surfaces of rock discontinuities in relation to the peak shear strength of rock masses. Concepts accepted recently for measuring such strength include estimation of a roughness coefficient such as developed by Barton's studies. The method for estimation the Joint Roughness Coefficient (JRC) value of a measured roughness profile is subjective. The aim of this research is to estimate the JRC value of the roughness of a surface profile in a rock mass system using an objective method. The study of roughness of surfaces has included measurement of fractal geometric characteristics. Once the irregularity of the surface has been described by the fractal dimension, the spatial variation of the surface irregularities can be described using variogram and drift analysis. An empirical relationships between the roughness profiles of selected JRC ranges and their fractal dimension with variogram and drift were derived. The application of analyses of fractal dimension, variogram and drift was novel for the analysis of roughness profiles. Also, an empirical equation was applied to experimental data.

The rattle noise originated from the oil-pump system was issued in developing an engine. In this paper, the major concerning factors for rattle noise are analyzed and the NVH developing process is summarized. The main factors are the tip clearance of inner/outer rotor, the clearance between oil pump housing and rotor guide and the rotor mass. Also, the optimization for oil-pump rotor whine noise is performed. The main factors of the rotor whine are the profile of the rotor, the oil pressure and the shape of oil route. This paper will present the design guidelines of the engine oil-pump system.
Effects on the tractor vibrations of tread, wheelbase and axle load distribution were analyzed by using mathematical models of tractor and random road surface. A 4 degrees of freedom tractor model was developed to predict the bounce, pitch and roll motions of tractor. The front axle which is constrained to roll with respect to tractor body was also included in the model. A random road profile was generated and used as an excitation input to the tractor. Output vibrations of the model were predicted and analyzed by a computer simulation method. In general, longer tread tends to reduce rolling and longer wheelbase does bouncing and pitching motions. Tractor vibrations were minimum when the ratio of front to rear axle loads was in the range of 30:70-35:65. Sensitivity analysis showed that rolling and pitching motions most sensitively varied with changes in tread and wheelbase while bouncing motion did with the location of mass center.
