Mass Loss Rates and Nutrient Dynamics of Decomposing Fine Roots in a Sawtooth Oak and a Korean Pine Stands

  • Fine root decomposition and nutrient release patterns were examined using in situ buried fine root (< 2mm in diameter) bags inserted vertically into the mineral soil to a depth of the top 15 cm in a sawtooth oak (Quercus acutissima) and a Korean pine (Pinus korainesis) stands in the Jungbu Forest Experiment Station, Kyonggi-do, Korea. The pine roots compared with the oak roots showed rapid mass loss in early stages of decomposition, but decomposed similarly after 12 months of incubation. Decomposition rates of fine roots were about 33%/yr for the oak roots and 37%/yr for the pine roots. Nutrients except for calcium and phosphorus showed similar concentrations between the oak and the pine roots during the study period. However, calcium concentration was significantly higher in the oak than in the pine roots. Nutrient concentrations in both stands except for nitrogen decreased during the study period. In addition, potassium compared with other nutrients was the most mobile ion and about 70% of initial amount was released during the first 3 months of incubation. The results indicate that tree species influence mass loss and nutrient dynamics of fine roots on similar site conditions.

실내사용 목재의 연소 특성 분석(I) (Combustion Properties of Woods for Indoor Use (I))

  • 최근 친환경 재료에 대한 국민들의 관심이 높아지면서 실내사용목재의 이용도 증가하고 있다. 본 연구는 실내사용 목재의 내화성 부여를 위한 기초자료로 활용될 수 있는 열특성 분석에 그 목적이 있다. 열방출률과 열방출량, 가스발생량, 중량감소 등의 연소성질을 열중량 분석(TGA) 및 콘칼로리미터(KS F ISO 5660-1)의 방법으로 분석하였다. 분석결과 목재의 재질적 특성은 연소적 특성으로 발현되었으며, 열적성질과 연소가스 발생량과의 관계는 상관관계가 높게 나타났다. 탄화층 형성에 의한 연소억제 효과도 수종에 따라 현저한 차이를 보였다. 총열방출량과 중량감소량은 상관관계가 높게 나타났다. 점화시간과 총열방출량 등의 자료는 목재의 내화성능부여 등의 기초 자료로서 매우 중요하리라 판단되었다.

양송이의 삼투압 건조에 따른 물질이동 특성과 갈변억제 (Mass Transfer Characteristics and Browning Inhibition by Osmotic Dehydration of Mushrooms)

  • Mass transfer characteristics during osmotic dehydration of mushrooms(Agaricus bisporus) in sugar solution were studied as a function of sugar concentration, immersion time and temperature, and the effect of osmotic dehydration on browning inhibition of air-dried mushrooms was also evaluated. Increasing the sugar concentration, immersion time and temperature increased moisture loss, sugar gain, molality and rate parameter. The changes of sugar gain and rate parameter were more significantly affected by concentration than by temperature of sugar solutions, while 1$0^{\circ}C$ increase in temperature or 10 Brix increase in concentration had the same effect on water loss. Water loss, sugar gain, molality were rapid in the first period of osmotic dehydration especially in the case of higher concentration and temperature of sugar solutions. Effects of osmotic dehydration in sugar solution(60 Brix, 8$0^{\circ}C$) with 18 min of immersion time(O.D.=0.099) rior to air dehydration on browning inhibition of dried mushrooms were more significant than blanching in water(8$0^{\circ}C$) with the same immersion time(O.D.=0.330) and the control (O.D.=0.559).

근감소성 비만에 대하여 근육량을 보존할 수 있는 체중 감량 중재에 대한 고찰 (Review on Weight Loss Interventions that Can Prevent Muscle Mass Loss in Sarcopenic Obesity)

  • Objectives: The objective of this study was to review clinical studies conducted over the last ten years that investigated weight or fat loss interventions that can preserve muscle or fat-free mass in Sarcopenic obesity Methods: PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), Research Information Sharing Service (RISS) and Korea Studies Information Service (KISS) were searched for Randomized clinical trials that had investigated all-type of interventions on the management of sarcopenic obesity from October 2013 to September 2023. Results: A total of 14 studies met all the inclusion criteria. Interventions that increase muscle mass while reducing body fat at the same time included resistance training (including using elastic bands) and whole-body electromyostimulation(WB-EMS) in exercise intervention and Hypocaloric high-protein diet in nutritional intervention, exercise and nutritional combined intervention, and combination intervention of electrical acupuncture and amino acid supplementation. Among them, the most positive method of changing the body composition in sarcopenic obesity was the electric acupuncture and amino acid supplements. Conclusion: Varying diagnostic criteria and management interventions for sarcopenic obesity in the included studies made it hard to maintain homogeneity across the studies. Well-defined criteria for diagnostic sarcopenic obesity should be considered. In addition, since all of the interventions examined did not show sufficient clinical effectiveness, follow-up studies are needed to confirm effective interventions for sarcopenic obesity patients in the future.

소음성 청력손실이 혈압에 미치는 영향에 관한 조사연구 (A Study on the Influences of Noise Induced Hearing Loss to the Blood Pressure)

  • For the purpose of evaluating the effect of noise induced hearing loss on the blood pressure, a cross-sectional study was conducted in 481 manufacturing industrial workers in Pusan area consisted of 275 workers from noisier plant (over 90 dB(A), high exposed group) and 206 workers from less noisy plant (below 85 dB(A), low exposed group) from April to Decepmber in 1985. The summarized results were as follows; 1) The degree of hearing loss according to the audible frequency was most notable in 4,000 Hz. 2) The prevalence of hypertension was 14.8% in total examined subjects. And also in 40 dB(A) hearing lost workers, there was no significant difference between high exposed group as 15.5% and low exposed group as 15.8%. 3) In 3 models analyzed by multiple regression technique to obtain the complexed extents of risk factors related to the diastolic blood pressure, especially model III which contain age, body mass index, smoking, alcohol and family history of hypertension, duration of work, noise exposure level and degree of hearing loss in high exposed group was most remarkable compared to the others. 4) The most potential predictor related to the diastolic pressure in high exposed group was the degree of hearing loss. And the next were body mass index, familial history of hypertension and age in order. But in the case of low exposed group, the potential predictors were body mass index, age and familial history of hypertension.

폐경전 무월경 여성에 있어서 골밀도 측정에 관한 연구 (Bone Mineral Density in Premenopausal Amenorrheic Women with Hypogonadism)

  • Bone mineral density was measured to assess whether the patients with premonopausal hypogonadism, comprised of 19 patients with hypogonadotropic hypogonadism(HH), 55 with premature ovarian failure(POF), 23 with hyperprolactinemia(HPLN), and 8 with Sheehan's syndrome. All aged from 20 to 39, were associated with some decrease in regional bone mass compared with that of 63 normal-associated with some decrease in regional bone mass compared with that of 63 normal-cycling control women matched with age and sex. Measurement of bone mineral density was carried out using Dual photon absorptiometry at four sites; femur neck, ward's triangle, trochanter and spine(L2-L4). Bone mineral density at all four sites were significantly decreased in patients with HH(p<0.01), POF(p<0.01). In hyperprolactinemic patients, the decrease in bone mass was significant at femur neck and Ward's triangle(p<0.05). The patients with POF were noted to be associated with significant bone loss when their duration of amenorrhea exceeded one year. In this study, the degree of loss of bone mass and the affected sites seemed to be different depending on the various types of hypogonadism and POF was noted have caused the appearance of loss of bone mass earlier than other thpes of hypogondism we experienced.

Phase-space Analysis in the Group and Cluster Environment: Time Since Infall and Tidal Mass Loss

  • Using the latest cosmological hydrodynamic N-body simulations of groups and clusters, we study how location in phase-space coordinates at z = 0 can provide information on environmental effects acting in clusters. We confirm the results of previous authors showing that galaxies tend to follow a typical path in phase-space as they settle into the cluster potential. As such, different regions of phase-space can be associated with different times since first infalling into the cluster. However, in addition, we see a clear trend between total mass loss due to cluster tides and time since infall. Thus, we find location in phase-space provides information on both infall time and tidal mass loss. We find the predictive power of phase-space diagrams remains even when projected quantities are used (i.e.,line of sight velocities, and projected distances from the cluster). We provide figures that can be directly compared with observed samples of cluster galaxies and we also provide the data used to make them as supplementary data to encourage the use of phase-space diagrams as a tool to understand cluster environmental effects. We find that our results depend very weakly on galaxy mass or host mass, so the predictions in our phase-space diagrams can be applied to groups or clusters alike, or to galaxy populations from dwarfs up to giants.

밀도에 따른 지표 연료의 연소실험 분석 (A Combustion Analysis of Surface Fuel Burning Experiment According to Density Variation)

  • 본 연구에서는 지표화의 대표적인 연소물질인 굴참나무(Quercus Variabilis: Q.V.)와 소나무(Pinus Densiflora: P.D.) 낙엽을 이용하여 연료의 밀도 변화에 따른 열 유체속도, 연소온도, 질량감소속도, 화염높이 및 연소시간 등의 연소특성을 분석하였다. 바스켓 높이는 10cm, 지름 20, 30, 40 그리고 50cm의 원통형 바스켓에 밀도별로 각각 채운 후 표면에 점화원을 인가하여 실험을 실시하였다. 침엽수종 낙엽의 경우 밀도와 지름의 증가함에 따라 질량감소속도, 화염지속시간, 화염의 높이 그리고 연소시간은 증가한 반면, 활엽수종 낙엽의 경우 질량감소속도와 화염높이는 증가하다가 감소하였으며 화염지속시간과 연소시간은 증가하였다. 또한, 기체유속 및 온도는 화염 높이가 커질수록 증가하는 경향을 나타내었다.

세라믹 코팅 고에너지 제동 디스크의 트라이볼로지적 특성 (Tribological Characteristics of Ceramic Coated High Power Brake Discs)

  • Three different kinds of brake discs including two coated brake discs and one steel disc were tested under the same experimental conditions on a reduced scale braking test bench. A braking test bench was specially designed to analyse thermo-mechanical and frictional behaviors of two types of brake with different sizes in stop and hold braking modes. Plasma spray coating technique was also used to coat the discs with ceramic powder. During the test four commercial brake pads were coupled with discs. Ceramic coated discs showed good stability in friction coefficient at high speed and high energy braking conditions. But they caused large wear loss of pad mass compared with the steel disc. It was shown that thermal barrier effect in ceramic coated discs adjusted the thermal partition between pad and disc. For a steel disc. it showed fluctuating friction coefficient at high speed but small wear loss of pad mass compared with ceramic coated discs.
