다양한 기초 형식에 따른 단자유도 구조물 지진하중 평가를 위한 동적 원심모형실험 (Dynamic Centrifuge Tests for Evaluating the Earthquake Load of the Structure on Various Foundation Types)

  • Soil-foundation-structure interaction (SFSI) is one of the important issues in the seismic design for evaluating the exact behavior of the system. A seismic design of a structure can be more precise and economical, provided that the effect of SFSI is properly taken into account. In this study, a series of the dynamic centrifuge tests were performed to compare the seismic response of the single degree of freedom(SDOF) structure on the various types of the foundation. The shallow and pile foundations were made up of diverse mass and different conjunctive condition, respectively. The test specimen consisted of dry sand deposit, foundation, and SDOF structure in a centrifuge box. Several types of earthquake motions were sequentially applied to the test specimen from weak to strong intensity of them, which is known as a stage test. Results from the centrifuge tests showed that the seismic responses of the SDOF structure on the shallow foundation and disconnected pile foundation decreased by the foundation rocking. On the other hand, those on the connected pile foundation gradually increased with intensity of input motion. The allowable displacement of the foundation under the strong earthquake, the shallow and the disconnected pile foundation, have an advantage in dissipating the earthquake energy for the seismic design.

Effects of Clothing Material Dyed with Astringent Persimmon Extract upon Exercise-Induced Thermal Strain and Sensory Responses in a Warm Environment

  • This study investigated the effects of persimmon-dyed clothing materials upon thermophysiological responses and subjective comfort sensations during exercise and rest in a warm environment. Six healthy, untrained women participated in two separate testing sessions, with cotton materials dyed with astringent persimmon extract (DC) and undyed cotton materials (UDC). The physical characteristics associated with heat and moisture transfer were improved in DC; also, stiffness, anti-drapery stiffness and crispness in the primary hand values were higher in DC. The experimental protocol consisted of a 10-min rest, 15-min exercise on a treadmill (at ${7km{\cdot}h^{-1}}$) and 25-min recovery at $28{\pm}0.2^{\circ}C$ and $50{\pm}3%\;RH$. The results were as follows: When wearing DC rather than UDC, mean body temperature, heart rate, heat storage and body mass loss were significantly lower during the whole experimental period. Clothing microclimate temperature showed different profiles between the two clothing materials, being lower with DC than UDC during the first half of exercise and the second half of recovery. Clothing microclimate humidity was significantly lower with DC than UDC during the whole experimental period. When wearing UDC, subjects felt significantly warmer and less comfortable during exercise, and sensed greater humidity during exercise and recovery. These results suggest that eco-friendly clothing materials dyed with astringent persimmon extract can reduce exercise-induced heat load and improve subjective sensations when exercising and resting in a warm environment, due to greater heat dissipation from the body to the outside environment compared with undyed clothing materials.

  • 본 논문에서는 고 전력밀도 및 저가형으로 구성 가능한 새로운 구조의 계통 연계형 태양광 인버터 시스템을 제안한다. 제안 시스템은 태양전지의 최대 전력점 추종기능과 배터리의 충 방전 기능을 단일 전력단으로 구성함으로써, 고 전력밀도 및 저가격형 시스템 구성이 가능하다. 또한, 제안 시스템은 배터리를 링크 캐패시터에 직렬 연결함으로써 링크 캐패시터의 전압 스트레스를 배터리 전압만큼 저감할 수 있으므로 가격저감 효과가 크다. 최종적으로 제안 시스템의 우수성과 신뢰성 검증을 위하여 1.5kW급 태양광 인버터 시스템의 시작품을 제작하였고, 이를 이용한 실험결과를 바탕으로 제안 시스템의 타당성을 검증한다.

물-공기 지열 멀티형 열펌프 시스템 실증연구 (Verification Experiment of a Water-to-air Ground Source Multi-heat Pump System)

  • The aim of this study is to verify the performance of water-to-air multi-heat pump system with a vertical U-tube GLHX(U-tube system) and a double tube GLHX(double tube system), which were installed in a school building located in Asan. For analyzing the performance of the GSHP system, we monitored various operating da~ including the water temperature of inlet and outlet of the ground heat exchanger, mass flow rate, and power consumption. Daily average COP of the single U-tube system and the double tube system were 4.5 and 4.2 at cooling mode and were 3.5 and 3.8 at heating mode. As a result, We know that performance of water-to-air multi-heat pump unit is reliable at actual condition operated in a part load conditions for all day.

균일하게 탄성지지된 보-기둥요소의 엄밀한 동적강성행렬 유도 (Derivation of Exact Dynamic Stiffness Matrix of a Beam-Column Element on Elastic Foundation)

  • 탄성지반 위에 놓인 보-기둥 요소의 총포텐셜 에너지로부터 변분원리를 적용하여 지배방정식과 힘-변위 관계식을 유도하였다. 4계 상미분방정식 형태의 지배방정식을 4개의 변위 파라메타를 도입하여 1계 연립미분방정식 형태의 선형 고유치 문제로 전환하고, 힘-변위 관계식을 적용하여 엄밀한 정적, 동적 요소강성행렬을 유도하였다. 직접강성법을 이용하여 구조물 강성행렬을 구하고, 2차원 보-기둥구조의 엄밀한 좌굴하중과 고유진동수를 구하고, 결과를 유한요소해와 비교함으로써 본 연구의 타당성을 검증하였다. 이러한 엄밀한 해석방법은 Hermitian 다항식을 형상함수로 도입하여 요소의 강성행렬을 산정하는 유한요소법과 비교할 때, 요소의 수를 대폭 줄일 수 있는 장점이 있다.

Retrofitting of vulnerable RC structures by base isolation technique

  • The scale and nature of the recent earthquakes in the world and the related earthquake disaster index coerce the concerned community to become anxious about it. Therefore, it is crucial that seismic lateral load effect will be appropriately considered in structural design. Application of seismic isolation system stands as a consistent alternative against this hazard. The objective of the study is to evaluate the structural and economic feasibility of reinforced concrete (RC) buildings with base isolation located in medium risk seismic region. Linear and nonlinear dynamic analyses as well as linear static analysis under site-specific bi-directional seismic excitation have been carried out for both fixed based (FB) and base isolated (BI) buildings in the present study. The superstructure and base of buildings are modeled in a 3D finite element model by consistent mass approach having six degrees of freedom at each node. The floor slabs are simulated as rigid diaphragms. Lead rubber bearing (LRB) and High damping rubber bearing (HDRB) are used as isolation device. Change of structural behaviors and savings in construction costing are evaluated. The study shows that for low to medium rise buildings, isolators can reduce muscular amount of base shears, base moments and floor accelerations for building at soft to medium stiff soil. Allowable higher horizontal displacement induces structural flexibility. Though incorporating isolator increases the outlay, overall structural cost may be reduced. The application of base isolation system confirms a potential to be used as a viable solution in economic building design.

종류식 배연 터널 화재시 배연속도가 연소율에 미치는 영향에 대한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Effect of Ventilation Velocity on the Burning Rate in Longitudinal Ventilation Tunnel Fires)

  • In this study, the 1/20 reduced-scale experiment using Froude scaling were conducted to investigate the effect of longitudinal ventilation velocity on the burning rate in tunnel fires. The methanol pool fires with heat release rate ranging from 2.02 kW to 6.15 kW and the n-heptane pool fires with heat release rate ranging from 2.23 kW to 15.6 kW were used. The burning rate of fuel was obtained by measuring the fuel mass at the load cell. The temperature distributions were observed by K-type thermocouples in order to investigate smoke movement. The ventilation velocity in the tested tunnel was controlled by inverter of the wind tunnel. In methanol pool fire, the increase in ventilation velocity reduces the burning rate. On the contrary in n-heptane pool fire, the increase in ventilation velocity induces large burning rate. The reason for above conflicting phenomena lies on the difference of burning rate. In methanol pool fire, the cooling effect outweighs the supply effect of oxygen to fire plume, and in n-heptane pool vice versa.

Determination of global ice loads on the ship using the measured full-scale motion data

  • This paper describes the whole procedures to determine ice-induced global loads on the ship using measured full-scale data in accordance with the method proposed by the Canadian Hydraulics Centre of the National Research Council of Canada. Ship motions of 6 degrees of freedom (dof) are found by processing the commercial sensor signals named Motion Pak II under the assumption of rigid body motion. Linear accelerations as well as angular rates were measured by Motion Pak II data. To eliminate the noise of the measured data and the staircase signals due to the resolution of the sensor, a band pass filter that passes frequencies between 0.001 and 0.6 Hz and cubic spline interpolation resampling had been applied. 6 dof motions were computed by the integrating and/or differentiating the filtered signals. Added mass and damping force of the ship had been computed by the 3-dimensional panel method under the assumption of zero frequency. Once the coefficients of hydrodynamic and hydrostatic data as well as all the 6 dof motion data had been obtained, global ice loads can be computed by solving the fully coupled 6 dof equations of motion. Full-scale data were acquired while the ARAON rammed old ice floes in the high Arctic. Estimated ice impact forces for two representative events showed 7e15 MN when ship operated in heavy ice conditions.

유탄성을 고려한 탱크내 슬로싱에 대한 연구 (A Study on the Sloshing of Cargo Tanks Including Hydroelastic Effects)

  • 선박이 대형화되고, LNG선의 건조가 활발해지면서 액체화물탱크의 내부유동을 뜻하는 슬로싱에 대한 연구가 중요해지고 있다. 슬로싱에 의한 충격압력의 크기와 특성을 파악하기 위하여 직사각형 모델에 대한 체계적인 실험을 수행하여 회전각, 동요주파수, 적재수심에 따른 내부유동의 특성을 분석하였고, 충격압력이 가해지는 탱크벽면의 구조응답을 계측하여 유탄성효과를 고찰하였다. 탱크의 내부유동은 고차경계요소법을 이용하여 해석하였고, 평판의 진동에 의해 유기되는 유체력은 고유함수 전개법을 이용하여 부가질량과 감쇠력으로 표현하였다. 충격하중이 작용하는 경우 유탄성 효과를 고려한 탱크 벽면은 부가질량의 영향으로 그 때의 수심에 해당하는 접수진동수로 진동하였고, 벽면에서 압력은 유탄성효과를 고려하지 않은 경우에 비해 두 배 이상 크게 나타났다. 이를 실험과 계산에서 모두 확인하였고, 충격하중에 의한 평판의 거동에서 유탄성효과를 규명하였다

Hydro-elastic analysis of marine propellers based on a BEM-FEM coupled FSI algorithm

  • A reliable steady/transient hydro-elastic analysis is developed for flexible (composite) marine propeller blade design which deforms according to its environmental load (ship speed, revolution speed, wake distribution, etc.) Hydro-elastic analysis based on CFD and FEM has been widely used in the engineering field because of its accurate results however it takes large computation time to apply early propeller design stage. Therefore the analysis based on a boundary element method-Finite Element Method (BEM-FEM) Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) is introduced for computational efficiency and accuracy. The steady FSI analysis, and its application to reverse engineering, is designed for use regarding optimum geometry and ply stack design. A time domain two-way coupled transient FSI analysis is developed by considering the hydrodynamic damping ffects of added mass due to fluid around the propeller blade. The analysis makes possible to evaluate blade strength and also enable to do risk assessment by estimating the change in performance and the deformation depending on blade position in the ship's wake. To validate this hydro-elastic analysis methodology, published model test results of P5479 and P5475 are applied to verify the steady and the transient FSI analysis, respectively. As the results, the proposed steady and unsteady analysis methodology gives sufficient accuracy to apply flexible marine propeller design.
