Enhanced approach using computational and experimental method is proposed and performed to describe very well the behavior of loudspeaker than conventional method. Proposed procedure is composed of four parts. First, Thiele-Small parameters for test loudspeaker are identified by an electrical impedance method like as a delta mass method. Second part includes the processes to measure physical properties. Physical data like masses and thicknesses of loudspeaker's components are measured by an electrical precision scale and a digital vernier caliper. Third, the identified Thiele-Small parameters are proposed to be used as load boundary conditions for vibration analysis instead of electromagnetic circuit analysis to get a driving force upon bobbin part. Also, these parameters and physical data are used to modify physical properties required for computation to accommodate simulated sound pressure level with measured one for loudspeaker enclosure system. These data like as Young's modulus and thickness for a diaphragm are required for vibration analysis of loudspeaker but not measured accurately. Finally, it was investigated that simulated sound pressure level with full acoustic modeling including an acoustic port for test loudspeaker agreed with experimental result very well in the midrange frequency band(from 100 Hz to 2,000 Hz). In addition, several design parametric study is performed to grasp acoustical behaviors of loudspeaker system due to variations of diaphragm thicknesses and shapes of dust cap.

In this paper, new tethered aerial robots including roaming tethered aerial robots (RTARs) for radioactive material sampling and stationary tethered aerial robots (STARs) for environment monitoring are proposed to meet extremely-long-endurance missions of nuclear power plants. The flight of the proposed tethered aerial robots may last for a few days or even a few months as long as the tethered cable provides continuous power. A high voltage AC or DC power system was newly adopted to reduce the mass of the tethered cable. The RTAR uses a tethered cable spooled from the aerial robot and an aerial tension control system. The aerial tension control system provides the appropriate tension to the tethered cable, which is accordingly laid down on the ground as the RTAR roams. The STAR includes a tethered cable spooled from the ground and a ground tension control system, which enables the STAR to reach high altitudes. Prototypes of the RTAR and STAR were designed and successfully demonstrated in outdoor environments, where the load power, power type, operating frequency, and flight attitude of the RTAR and STAR were: 180 W, AC 100 kHz, and 20 m; and 300 W, AC or DC 100 kHz, and 80 m, respectively.

The time consuming and expensive nature of experimental research on scouring processes caused by flowing water makes it attractive to develop numerical tools for the predication of the interaction of the fluid flow and the movable bed. In this paper the numerical simulation of scour by a wall jet is presented. The flow is assumed to be two-dimensional, and the alluvium is cohesionless. The solution process, repeated at each time step, involves simulation of a turbulent wall jet flow, solution of the convection-diffusion of sand concentration, and prediction of the bed deformation. For simulation of the jet flow, the governing equations for momentum, mass balance and turbulent parameters are solved by the finite volume method. The SIMPLE scheme with momentum interpolation is used for pressure correction. The convection-diffusion equation is solved for sediment concentration. A boundary condition for concentration at the bed, which takes into account the effect of bed-load, is implemented. The time rate of deposition and scour at the bed is obtained by solving the continuity equation for sediment. The shape and position of the scour hole and deposition of the bed material downstream of the hole appear realistic.
Recently, Performance and fuel efficiency of gasoline engines have been improved by adopting direct injection (DI) system instead of port fuel injection (PFI) system. However, injecting gasoline fuel directly into the cylinder significantly reduces the time available for mixing and evaporation. Consequently, particulate matters(PM) emissions increase. Moreover, as the emission regulations are getting more stringent, not only the mass but also the total number of PM should be reduced to satisfy the Euro VI regulations. Increasing the fuel injection pressure is one of the methods to meet this challenge. In this study, the effects of increased fuel injection pressures on combustion and emission characteristics were experimentally examined at several part load conditions in a 1.6 liter commercial gasoline direct injection engine. The main combustion durations decreased about $2{\sim}3^{\circ}$ in crank angle base by increasing the fuel injection pressure due to enhanced air-fuel mixing characteristics. The exhaust emissions and number concentration distributions of PM with particle sizes were also compared. Due to enhanced combustion characteristics, THC emissions decreased, whereas NOx emissions increased. Also, the number concentrations of PM, larger than 10 nm, also significantly decreased.

The proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) is regarded as the most promising alternative power sources for unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) due to its high energy density and silent operation. Since there are many load changes during UAV flight, thermal management is one of the important factor for the performance of PEMFC. In order to reduce the UAV weight for the stable operation of UAV, thermal management system (TMS) studied in this work does not use the fan but use the air flowing into UAV by UAV flight. In order to develop the passive type heat exchanger (HEX) for 1kW PEMFC, four types of HEXs are fabricated and their cooling performances are compared. The parametric study on the cooling performance of HEXs has performed with the variation of operating parameters such as mass flow rates and inlet temperature of air and coolant. Type 4 has the best performance in every case. This study can be helpful to achieve the optimal design of HEX for PEMFC powered UAV.

This paper proposed a technique of structural re-analysis for the evaluation of dynamic responses of bridge structure under moving loads using experimental modal results. For successful structural re-analysis, it is required to have accurate estimation techniques of the modal characteristics of bridge structures. The natural frequencies and mode shapes were identified by direct fourier analysis techniques and damping ratios by the random decrement method, respectively. An interpolation method was also proposed for the extension of mode shape measured on limited DOFs. Second, the structural reanalysis was performed using moving mass model and identified modal parameters. The results from the reanalysis show that the proposed technique is very reasonable to evaluate the actual behavior of bridge structures under moving loads.
The nonlinear numerical analysis of the impact response of reinforced concrete/mortar beam incorporated with the updated Lagrangian method, namely the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) is carried out in this study. The analysis includes the simulation of the effects of high mass low velocity impact load falling on beam structures. Three material models to describe the localized failure of structural elements are: (1) linear pressure-sensitive yield criteria (Drucker-Prager type) in the pre-peak regime for the concrete/mortar meanwhile, the shear strain energy criterion (Von Mises) is applied for the steel reinforcement (2) nonlinear hardening law by means of modified linear Drucker-Prager envelope by employing the plane cap surface to simulate the irreversible plastic behavior of concrete/mortar (3) implementation of linear and nonlinear softening in tension and compression regions, respectively, to express the complex behavior of concrete material during short time loading condition. Validation upon existing experimental test results is conducted, from which the impact behavior of concrete beams are best described using the SPH model adopting an average velocity and erosion algorithm, where instability in terms of numerical fragmentation is reduced considerably.
A steam explosion may occur during a severe accident, when the molten core comes into contact with water. The pressurized water reactor and boiling water reactor ex-vessel steam explosion study, which was carried out with the multicomponent three-dimensional Eulerian fuel-coolant interaction code under the conditions of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Steam Explosion Resolution for Nuclear Applications project reactor exercise, is presented and discussed. In reactor calculations, the largest uncertainties in the prediction of the steam explosion strength are expected to be caused by the large uncertainties related to the jet breakup. To obtain some insight into these uncertainties, premixing simulations were performed with both available jet breakup models, i.e., the global and the local models. The simulations revealed that weaker explosions are predicted by the local model, compared to the global model, due to the predicted smaller melt droplet size, resulting in increased melt solidification and increased void buildup, both reducing the explosion strength. Despite the lower active melt mass predicted for the pressurized water reactor case, pressure loads at the cavity walls are typically higher than that for the boiling water reactor case. This is because of the significantly larger boiling water reactor cavity, where the explosion pressure wave originating from the premixture in the center of the cavity has already been significantly weakened on reaching the distant cavity wall.

In order to investigate the feasibility of a direct ice slurry transporting system for the purpose of district cooling, a case study of field application is performed. The research aims include the field measurement of ice packing factor, the performance of coldness delivery, and the branching characteristics of ice slurry. Two representative types of pipe branch are dealt with in this work. For the slurry flow with ice volume fraction of 0.16 or less, the pipe blocking due to aggregation is not observed. Based on the time-wise variation of temperature in the storage tank, a calculating method of ice packing factor is newly developed, which seems to be useful when the brine concentration is unknown. It is confirmed that the mass flow rate of ice slurry per unit cooling load is markedly reduced with increasing the ice content. The pumping power also decreases, but remains unchanged for high ice fractions. The distribution of ice particle before and after branching shows a good uniformity within the range of 5% difference, but yields a unique trend depending on the flow rate.

Metal stamping is widely used in the mass-production process of the automobile. During the stamping process, air may be trapped between the draw die and the panel and/or between the punch and the panel. Air pocket rapidly not only increases forming load in the final stage, but also deforms the product just formed by compressive air inside the air pocket in knockout process. To prevent these problems air bent holes are drilled in the die to exhaust the trapped air but all processes associated with air bent holes are performed by empirical know-how of workers in the field due to lack of researches. Therefore this study developed an automated design system for predicting the shape and position, and volume of air pocket on the draw die by using the AutoLISP language under AutoCAD circumstance. The system is able to display the shape of air pocket occurred in the draw die and to calculate automatically its volume by strokes. So it makes a stepping stone to calculate theoretical size of an air bent hole and numbers according to it by predicting and analyzing the position and volume of air pocket. Results obtained from the system enable the designers or manufacturers of the stamping die to be more efficient in this field.
