  • The present study examined the effectiveness of repeated marriage checkups at intervals of six months in a Family Center in Seoul. To achieve this, the pilot study protocol (Park, 2019) was adapted, emphasizing strength-based, counseling-oriented approaches. Two couples and family therapists with master's degrees were trained and their practice was monitored to ensure program fidelity. The methods employed for the assessment of marriage checkup were an online survey, a video recording of couple problem-solving, and a clinical interview. A total of 14 couples participated in the 1st checkup, 10 of whom also completed the 2nd checkup. Couples with varying levels of marital satisfaction participated in the program. Descriptive statistics indicated gradual increases over 8-9 months in diverse indices such as marital satisfaction and relationship strength, while other indices fluctuated slightly but converged to higher levels over time. A non-parametric analysis appropriate for small samples demonstrated statistically significant increases over the 8-9 months in marital satisfaction among couples. The current study evidenced the effectiveness of repeated marriage checkups in the Family Center, which is the primary public institution for family policy and services in Korea. Repeated marriage checkups are therefore a promising way to enhance couples' relationship health and improve the family management system of the Family Center.

To achieve the research objective, the 'Healthy couple relationship' lesson plan developed by the author was executed in two high schools for eight weeks from September 1 to November 3, 2018 from which the effects were analyzed. The results are as follows. First, the 'healthy couple relationship' education for high school students has been effective in improving their relationship performance, which is a part of the home economics curriculum. In S high school, the paired t-test of pre-/post-test comparison results showed statistically significant differences in the areas of 'communication', 'conflict resolution' and 'relationship formation performance'. For Sejong City campus-type joint curriculum group, where Wilcoxson signed-rank test was applied due to small sample size, showed that the overall scores as well as all the subsections of 'relationship formation performance' (i.e., 'communication', 'self-understanding', 'conflict resolution', and 'empathy') have improved, although not statistically significant. Second, the 'Healthy couple relationship' education for high school students had positive effects on the marriage values of high school students. In S high school, students' perception of marriage values rendered a statistically significant positive change, while in campus-type joint curriculum in Sejong City, no statistical significance was detected. In conclusion, the 'Healthy couple relationship' education can help high school students build positive values by cultivating their 'relationship formation competence', which is a part of the competencies listed in home economics curriculum, and also broaden their understanding of marriage, by acquiring knowledge and skills to build healthy couple relationships, and learning to implement the knowledge and skills in their own lives.

  • The notable findings are as follow: First, men show higher level of perceiving open marriage, sex-role, acceptance of extra-marital relationship and intention of extra-marital sex than that of women. Second, the effects of men's perception of sex-role and open marriage, and the acceptance of extra-marital relationship have direct effects on their intention of extra-marital sex. The acceptance of extra-marital relationship shows the mediation effect on the path between that of open marriage and extra-marital sex among men. However, men's perception of sex-role does not affect the acceptance of extra-marital relationship. Lastly, women's perception of sex-role and open marriage, and the acceptance of extra-marital relationship directly influence the intention of extra-marital sex each, including the mediating effect of accepting extra-marital relationship between that of open marriage and extra-marital sex which are similar to the men's trend. Women's perception of sex-role show the direct effect on the acceptance of extra-marital relationship unlike man's trend. Therefore, the fact demonstrates that the effect of perceiving of sex-role on the intention of extra-marital sex is different according to gender. Some practical and political implications are discussed based on the study's findings.

  • The purpose of this research is to examine the relationship between the adult attachment of married employees, their job motivation and marital relationship. For this purpose, a questionnaire survey was carried out with 370 married employees in the Chungnam area as the target from Sep. 10 to Oct. 14, 2016. The collected data was analyzed using SPSS 23.0 using descriptive statistical analysis, the independent sample T-test, ANOVA analysis, Pearson correlation, and structural equation analysis. First, significant differences were revealed in the level of attachment avoidance, satisfaction with the marriage relationship, and job motivation according to the age group, in the level of attachment avoidance and satisfaction with the marriage relationship according to the education level, in the level of attachment avoidance and satisfaction with the marriage relationship according to the marriage period, in job motivation according to the position, in satisfaction with the marriage relationship according to the average household income, and in satisfaction with the marriage relationship according to the work shift pattern. Second, although a significant negative correlation appeared between attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance, a significant positive correlation was found between attachment avoidance and job motivation. Also, although a significant negative correlation appeared between attachment avoidance and marital relationship, a significant positive correlation was found between job motivation and marital relationship. Third, to examine the mediating effect of satisfaction with the marital relationship on the relationship between adult attachment and job motivation, a structural equation analysis was carried out. As a result, the indirect effect of attachment anxiety on job motivation turned out to be significant and its complete mediating effect was confirmed. This suggests that when developing programs to improve job motivation within the workplace or consultative interventions for the enhancement of marital relationships, the above characteristics of individuals should be taken into consideration.
