Factors Affecting Preparation Stage to Quit Smoking in Men (성인 남성의 금연 준비단계에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • Purpose: This study was done to investigate factors affecting preparation stage to quit smoking in men. Methods: Based on data from the Community Health Survey conducted in Chungbuk Province in 2008, we estimated rates and odds ratio (OR) of smoking cessation intention for 2,639 men who were current smokers. Multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to identify factors affecting preparation stage to quit smoking. Results: Among current male smokers, the rate of smoking cessation intention was 17.1%. The OR of factors affecting smoking cessation was as follows: Compared to men with middle school education, the OR for rate of smoking cessation intention in men with high school education was 1.47 (p=.018), and for college or higher, 1.55 (p=.017). Compared to being single, the OR for cohabitation after marriage was 1.61 (p=.011) and living alone after marriage, 2.23 (p=.005). The OR for attempt to quit smoking, exposure to secondhand smoke and participation in smoking education were 6.80 (p<.001), 1.32 (p=.020) and 1.69 (p=.005), respectively. Conclusion: Results of this study show that it is necessary to decrease exposure to secondhand smoke and to increase participation in smoking cessation education targeting current smokers to move them from precontemplation or contemplation stage to preparation stage.

Moderating Effect of Residential Selection on the Relationship between Marriage and Childbirth - From Perspective of Regional Integration against Local Extinction - (결혼과 출산 간의 관계에서 거주지 선택의 조절 효과 검증 -지방소멸 대응을 위한 광역화 관점에서-)

  • This study is to verify the moderating effect of residential selection on the relationship between marriage and childbirth. According to the analysis results, interactions of first marriage with the financial capacity of local governments for public services, residential stability, the scale of the region, and local economic situation have a moderating effect on childbirth. Interactions of remarriage and marriage with foreigners with the financial capacity of local governments for public services, residential stability, and the scale of the region have a moderating effect on childbirth. These results indicate that when married couples choose to reside in small and medium-sized cities or large cities rather than rural areas, it can more positively affect their intention to have children. While there may be a logical argument against advocating for regional integration based on the moderating effect of residential selection on the relationship between marriage and childbirth, the analysis results of this study and the phenomenon of married couples avoiding rural areas can contribute to raising the need for regional integration.

Factors Influencing Nursing Students' Intention of Childbirth (간호대학생의 출산의지에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • This study investigated how the awareness about marriage, the value of children, and the motivation for childrearing influences childbirth will in nursing students. The data was collected from May 1 to May 30, 2019, and 248 data samples were finally used for analysis. The collected data was analyzed using the SPSS /WIN 22.0 program. Descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficients, t-tests, ANOVA, Scheffe's test and multiple regression analysis were all calculated. The average of awareness about marriage was 3.39±.38, the average of the value of children was 2.72±0.39, the average motivation of childrearing was 2.73±0.78 and the average of childbirth will was 3.12±0.48. The childbirth will according to the general characteristics, was significantly different according to age (F=6.002, p=.003). Among the awareness about marriage, conservative view on marriage(r=.207, p=.001), active view on marriage(r=.226, p<.001), instrumental view on marriage(r=.181, p=.004), and motivation of childrearing(r=.283, p<.001) showed positive correlation ed with childbirth will. Childbirth will was negatively correlated with passive view on marriage (r=-.292, p<.001), and the value of children (r=-.226, p<.001). The factors affecting childbirth will of the study subjects were age(β=.155, p=.007), passive view on marriage(β=-.383, p<.001), motivation of childrearing (β=.315, p<.001), and the explanatory power was 23.6%. According to this study, it is necessary to confirm the effects of developing an intervention program and applying this program to improve the decisions of nursing students concerning marriage and having children.

Predicting the Subsequent Childbirth Intention of Married Women with One Child to Solve the Low Birth Rate Problem in Korea: Application of a Machine Learning Method (저출생 문제해결을 위한 한자녀 기혼여성의 후속 출산의향 예측: 머신러닝 방법의 적용)

  • Objective: The purpose of this study is to develop a machine learning model to predict the subsequent childbirth intention of married women with one child, aiming to address the low birth rate problem in Korea, This will be achieved by utilizing data from the 2021 Family and Childbirth Survey conducted by the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs. Methods: A prediction model was developed using the Random Forest algorithm to predict the subsequent childbirth intention of married women with one child. This algorithm was chosen for its advantages in prediction and generalization, and its performance was evaluated. Results: The significance of variables influencing the Random Forest prediction model was confirmed. With the exception of the presence or absence of leave before and after childbirth, most variables contributed to predicting the intention to have subsequent childbirth. Notably, variables such as the mother's age, number of children planned at the time of marriage, average monthly household income, spouse's share of childcare burden, mother's weekday housework hours, and presence or absence of spouse's maternity leave emerged as relatively important predictors of subsequent childbirth intention.

Study on Divorce Caused by Extramarital Relationship : Content Analysis on TV Drama : "Couples Clinic: Love or War" (혼외관계를 사유로 하는 이혼에 관한 연구: 드라마 "부부클리닉 : 사랑과 전쟁"의 내용분석을 중심으로)

  • This study is to explore how TV drama describes divorce process by the reason of extramarital relationship in the drama. To explore this subject, 30 drama synopses delineating extramarital relationship were analyzed. The results revealed that most of the couples had difficulties in emotional relationship and communication. The couples relationship was described traditionally patriarchal: husbands showed their authorities and wives showed dependency on their husbands. The partners of extramarital relationship were the lovers before current marriage. The patterns of extramarital relationship included 'intention to look for vitality despite satisfying current marriage' for the husbands and 'intention to avoid dissatisfied current marriage temporally' or 'to maintain marriage despite dissatisfaction' for the wives. For those who married 6 years and longer, more extramarital relationship was accepted as a terminator of the marriage. And in many cases, the divorce dose not mean to maintain the relationship with extramarital partner but to collapse of trust in partner. The results imply that the social work needs to be more sensitive to middle-class couples' communication and relationship problems. This will lead to the development of the social work intervention program for the couples.

A Study on Family Values Influencing on University Students' Childbirth Intention (대학생의 출산의도에 영향을 미치는 가족가치관 연구)

  • There's an opinion that it may be a combination of change of values and social economic factors that caused low fertility of Korean society. This study intends to analyze actual conditions of family children values and gender role centered on university students in a marriageable age so draw a policy implication for overcoming low fertility. Main findings of this study are like following. First, as for analysis of childbirth intention shows average score of $3.35{\pm}1.142$ presented sex distinction that men have a higher tendency to women. Second, in gender role attitudes, it shows that gender role related on women's social activities($2.06{\pm}0.739$), traditional gender role in family($2.41{\pm}0.789$) influence on childbirth intention (p<0.001). Third, in family children values indicates moderate scores($2.95{\pm}0.648$) that son's position in family ($2.33{\pm}0.911$), relation between children and parents($2.80{\pm}1.050$), individual's position in family($3.56{\pm}0.671$) influence on childbirth intention(p<0.000) in the traditional values. Measures against low fertility will prove effective when family values are established favorable to marriage, childbirth, rearing, gender equality is settled in a society as a whole and related systems.

The Effects of Demographic Characteristics and Psychological Characteristic on Make-up Behavior of Women (성인여성의 인구통계적 변인과 심리적 특성이 화장행동에 미치는 영향)

  • This study intends to examine the influencing factors in personal intention and show-off of make-up behavior. For the study, a questionnaire survey was conducted of 436 women in between their twenties to fifties residing in the Kyeongnam region. Obtained data were analyzed pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis. The result is summarized as follows.; The influence on personal intention and show-off of make-up behavior can be described into 4 factors that are included in the decision making process of personal intention and show-off, in other words, the demographical characteristic, the body cathexis, the need and the clothing value. The demographic characteristics, the marriage status, the occupation status and the media contact had a direct influence on personal intention, and the educational background had a direct influence on show-off. The body cathexis did not have a direct influence on any subordinate factors of personal intention and show-off, but had indirect influence having the need as a parameter or had no influence having the clothing value as a parameter.

Influence of Job Embeddedness and Resilience on Turnover Intention in Dental Hygienists

  • Background: Maintaining a skilled workforce by minimizing the turnover of competent dental hygienists is very important for securing dental competitiveness. Therefore, it is necessary to find a predictor of turnover and lower turnover intention. To understand dental hygienist turnover, it is necessary to study the resilience, a positive factor of personal characteristics and job embeddedness that induces residual tissue. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of dental hygienists' job embeddedness and resilience on turnover intention. Methods: A survey was conducted on licensed dental hygienists nationwide, from March 19 to July 19, 2020. T-test and one way ANOVA analysis were performed to compare the job embeddedness, resilience, and turnover intention according to the general characteristics. Pearson's correlation analysis was performed to identify the correlation between job embeddedness, resilience, and turnover intention. Multiple regression analysis was performed to determine the effect on the turnover intention. Results: Job embeddedness was the highest with link and resilience scoring 3.57 and 4.16, respectively. The turnover intention scored 3.53. Among the general characteristics, age, marriage, total dental clinic career, education degree, and position showed statistically significant differences in job embeddedness, resilience, and turnover intention. Suitability, link, and sacrifice of job embeddedness were shown to affect the degree of turnover intention, with an explanatory power of 26.2%. Conclusion: In order to reduce the dental hygienists' turnover intention, job embeddedness and resilience should be increased. Thus, measures should be undertaken for professional and systematic program development and human resources management.

The Effects of Role Conflicts and Burnout on Turnover Intention in Nurses of Oriental Medicine Hospitals (한방병원간호사의 역할갈등, 소진이 이직의도에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to grasp the effects of role conflicts and burnout on turnover intention and provide intervention methods to decrease turnover intention in nurses of Oriental medicine hospitals. Method: The Subjects were 103 workimg Oriental Medicine Nurses. The data were analyzed by SPSS 18.0. Result: As a result, the mean scores of turnover intention, role conflicts, and burnout were 3.31, 3.53, and 3.44, respectively. Role conflicts had no significant difference in general characteristics, while burnout showed a difference in age, marriage, a working department, a night shift, and a salary, turnover intention showed a difference only in a night shift. Turnover intention was positively correlated with role conflicts(r=.310, p<.002) and burnout(r=.326, p<.001). Role conflicts and burnout explained 20.9% of turnover intention. Conclusion: Therefore, it is necessary to specify specialized and systematical nurses of roles to decrease turnover, make efforts to reduce burnout, and provide methods to decrease turnover intention in nurses of Oriental medicine hospitals.

Factors Influencing Happiness Index of Hospital Nurses (병원간호사의 행복지수 영향요인)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to provide basic data on the nursing Happiness Index and identify factors influencing nurses by describing their perception of lifestyle, health behavior, nursing professionalism, Happiness Index, and turnover intention. Methods: On July 2012, 700 nurses from 10 general hospitals were surveyed, but 23 were omitted due to missing or incomplete data. The focus of this study was the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Happiness Index, consisting of 11 OECD identified topics concerning living conditions and quality of life. Data were analyzed using $x^2$-tests, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients and multiple regression with SPSS/WINdow 14.0. Results: Mean score for nurses' Happiness Index was 3.03 on a scale of 5. There were significant differences on the Happiness Index for the following: age, marriage, children, education, position, work experience, wages, number of beds, medical institution, health behavior, weight, and meal patterns. There was a positive correlation between the happiness index and nursing professionalism but a negative correlation between the happiness index and turnover intention. Conclusion: Results indicate that factors influencing happiness are autonomy, sense of calling and turnover intention suggesting the need to improve nursing professionalism for a life of happiness among hospital nurses.
