Analysis of Real-Time Estimation Method Based on Hidden Markov Models for Battery System States of Health

  • A new method is proposed based on a hidden Markov model (HMM) to estimate and analyze battery states of health. Battery system health states are defined according to the relationship between internal resistance and lifetime of cells. The source data (terminal voltages and currents) can be obtained from vehicular battery models. A characteristic value extraction method is proposed for HMM. A recognition framework and testing datasets are built to test the estimation rates of different states. Test results show that the estimation rates achieved based on this method are above 90% under single conditions. The method achieves the same results under hybrid conditions. We can also use the HMMs that correspond to hybrid conditions to estimate the states under a single condition. Therefore, this method can achieve the purpose of the study in estimating battery life states. Only voltage and current are used in this method, thereby establishing its simplicity compared with other methods. The batteries can also be tested online, and the method can be used for online prediction.

  • 리튬 이온 배터리의 잔존수명 추정은 품질보증, 운전계획, 교체주기 파악 등을 위해 활용된다는 점에서 그 필요성이 점점 커지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 에너지 저장 장치용 배터리의 잔존 수명을 단일지수 용량열화 모델과 마코프체인 몬테카를로(MCMC) 방법을 이용하여 추정한 결과를 제시한다. MCMC방법은 사전 정보가 제대로 주어지지 않았을 때, 추정결과가 모델 초기값과 입력 설정값에 따라 크게 변하게 되는 단점이 있어, 실제 현장에서 배터리 모델과 추정법에 익숙하지 않은 사용자가 활용하는데 어려움이 있다. 이러한 어려움을 극복하기 위해, 본 논문에서는 베이지안 추론법의 이론식을 전역 탐색하여 구한 이론값과 MCMC 추정값을 비교해서, 초기값과 설정값을 결정하는 과정을 제안한다.

  • 본 논문에서는 인지 무선 (Cognitive Radio; CR) 네트워크에서 Radio Frequency (RF) 에너지 수집 (Energy Harvesting; EH) 기능을 갖는 2차 사용자 (Secondary User; SU)가 최대 2개의 서로 다른 채널을 순차적으로 센싱하여 주사용자 (Primary User; PU)가 사용하지 않고 비어 있는 채널을 확보하는 경우를 고려하였다. EH SU는 데이터를 전송하기 위해 비어 있는 채널을 정확하게 검출해야 할 뿐만 아니라 충분한 에너지를 보유하고 있어야 한다. 기존의 SU와 마찬가지로 데이터 전송에 의한 에너지 소모와 더불어 자체적으로 에너지 수집이 가능하기 때문에 EH SU의 에너지 상태는 감소와 증가를 반복하게 되며, 본 논문에서는 이와 같은 EH SU의 배터리 상태를 Markov 모델로 구축하였다. 해당 모델로부터 EH SU가 에너지를 완전히 소모할 안정상태 확률을 도출하였으며, 이에 근거하여 패킷을 성공적으로 전송할 확률을 도출하였다. 제안된 Markov 배터리 모델을 분석하기 위해 Monte-Carlo 모의실험을 진행하여 Energy Outage 확률과 패킷 전송 성능 분석의 정확성을 검증하였다.

Energy Harvesting in Multi-relay Multiuser Networks based on Two-step Selection Scheme

  • In this paper, we analyze average capacity of an amplify-and-forward (AF) cooperative communication system model in multi-relay multiuser networks. In contrast to conventional cooperative networks, relays in the considered network have no embedded energy supply. They need to rely on the energy harvested from the signals broadcasted by the source for their cooperative information transmission. Based on this structure, a two-step selection scheme is proposed considering both channel state information (CSI) and battery status of relays. Assuming each relay has infinite or finite energy storage for accumulating the energy, we use the infinite or finite Markov chain to capture the evolution of relay batteries and certain simplified assumptions to reduce computational complexity of the Markov chain analysis. The approximate closed-form expressions for the average capacity of the proposed scheme are derived. All theoretical results are validated by numerical simulations. The impacts of the system parameters, such as relay or user number, energy harvesting threshold and battery size, on the capacity performance are extensively investigated. Results show that although the performance of our scheme is inferior to the optimal joint selection scheme, it is still a practical scheme because its complexity is much lower than that of the optimal scheme.

Performance Evaluation of the RIX-MAC Protocol for Wireless Sensor Networks

  • Energy efficiency is an essential requirement in designing a MAC protocol for wireless sensor networks (WSNs) using battery-operated sensor nodes. We proposed a new receiver-initiated MAC protocol, RIX-MAC, based on the X-MAX protocol with asynchronous duty cycles. In this paper, we analyzed the performance of RIX-MAC protocol in terms of throughput, delay, and energy consumption using the model. For modeling the protocol, we used the Markov chain model, derived the transmission and state probabilities, and obtained the equations to solve the performance of throughput, delay, and energy consumption. Our proposed model and analysis are validated by comparing numerical results obtained from the model, with simulation results using NS-2.

Dynamic Computation Offloading Based on Q-Learning for UAV-Based Mobile Edge Computing

  • Emerging mobile edge computing (MEC) can be used in battery-constrained Internet of things (IoT). The execution latency of IoT applications can be improved by offloading computation-intensive tasks to an MEC server. Recently, the popularity of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) has increased rapidly, and UAV-based MEC systems are receiving considerable attention. In this paper, we propose a dynamic computation offloading paradigm for UAV-based MEC systems, in which a UAV flies over an urban environment and provides edge services to IoT devices on the ground. Since most IoT devices are energy-constrained, we formulate our problem as a Markov decision process considering the energy level of the battery of each IoT device. We also use model-free Q-learning for time-critical tasks to maximize the system utility. According to our performance study, the proposed scheme can achieve desirable convergence properties and make intelligent offloading decisions.

거시경제변수(巨視經濟變數)와 주가(株價) - 한국주식시장(韓國株式市場)에서의 실증분석 -

  • 본 논문에서는 재정가격결정모형(裁定價格決定模型)(Arbitrage Pricing Model)을 기초로 우리나라 주식시장에 영향을 주는 거시경제변수가 무엇인가를 찾고자 하였다. 방법론면에서는 과거변수(過去變數)(lagged variables)에 의해서만 기대치를 형성시키는 AIRMA(Autoregressike Integrated with Moving Average) 방법을 이용하기보다는 마코프속성(屬性)(Markov Property)을 갖는 상태공간모형(狀態空間模型) (State Space Model)을 이용하여 보다 합리적인 거시경제 요인의 이노베이션을 하였다. 또한 단순한 요인분석(要因分析)(factor analysis)에 의한 요인추출은 요인의 표본의존성(標本依存性)(Sample dependency)이 심하므로 그룹간 요인분석(inter-battery factor analysis)을 행하여 추정(推定)된 요인(要因)(요인값 : factor score)과 요인수를 결정하여 관련 거시경제변수를 선택한다. 그룹간 요인분석을 위한 그룹을 형성할 때 그룹내에서는 동질성을 그룹간에는 이질성을 최대한 살리는 것이 필요한데, 이를 위해 군집분석(群集分析)(Cluster Analysis)을 사용한 것이 특징이다. 결론적으로 우리나라 주식시장에 영향을 미치는 거시경제요인(巨視經濟要因)으로 단위노동비율, 제조업제품재고지수, 채권프리미엄, 수출물가지수, 정부부문 통화공급, 회사채수익률, 종합주가지수 등 7가지가 있는 것으로 분석되고 있다.

  • In a recent paper [1], the authors investigated the maximum stable throughput region of a network composed of a rechargeable primary user and a secondary user plugged to a reliable power supply. The authors studied the cases of an infinite and a finite energy queue at the primary transmitter. However, the results of the finite case are incorrect. We show that under the proposed energy queue model (a decoupled M/D/1 queueing system with Bernoulli arrivals and the consumption of one energy packet per time slot), the energy queue capacity does not affect the stability region of the network.
