It is very important for consumers to control their buying impulse the modem market environments because of the enormous marketing pressure to induce consumers to buy. In this context, we investigated (i) the relevant factors to construct the strategies for restraining buying impulse, (ii) the frequency with which the strategies are used, and (iii) the variables related to the strategies. Data were gathered through an internet survey(azoomma.com) and total 626 cases were analysed. Self-control strategies prior to the buying impulse comprise four categories: restricting the means of payment and transportation, avoiding shopping stimulus, no-wandering around a shop, and planning a purchase. Self-control strategies after the buying impulse comprise five categories: normative assesment of impulse buying, reconsidering economic condition, postponing purchasing decision, distrusting marketing activities, and partially satisfying buying impulse. Most of married women use these strategies very often, and some psychological variables are more related with them than demographic variables. Based on findings some implications for consumer education are also discussed.
Despite the recent economic depression, the beverage industry is becoming as big as the bakery industry, reaching 3 trillion in scale. With the national income exceeding twenty thousand dollars, the consumption of coffee has greatly risen, of which professionals say that the coffee craze is only in the beginning stage. With this growth, the number of coffee shops is also increasing, and in order to increase competitiveness and to secure profit in the market economy, design marketing is being perceived as a very important factor. By examining domestic coffee shops and their space design, and deducting their marketing strategies and expressive elements of space design through SWOT analysis and 4P analysis, this research aims to analyze domestic coffee houses and their marketing strategies by case studies. This research shows how important expressive elements are through comparison of the various expressive elements of space design used in the individual types of coffee houses. Future research might investigate in depth about each element and their adequateness for the space types.
Purpose - The beauty salon industry is a highly competitive market. Every beauty salon shop aims to keep its customers satisfied and hopes that they will revisit several times. Hence, this paper investigates the key factors affecting the repurchase intention of consumers in the beauty salon industry in Taiwan. Research design, data, and methodology - We first use the content analysis of free-response narratives from beauticians to classify the key factors objectively and develop the questionnaire accordingly. We then distribute the questionnaire to 130 beauty salon consumers to complete the questionnaire. Next, the Grey Relation Analysis is employed to identify the key factors that affect the repurchase intention of consumers in the beauty salon industry. Results - From the perspectives of the beauty salon customers, the factors affecting the repurchase intention of consumers are (1) obvious treatment results, (2) the treatment space considers personal privacy, (3) the offer of promotional prices for treatment/product trials, and (4) the product knowledge of the beauticians. From the perspectives of the beauticians, the factors include (1) the treatment space is well-designed and makes the customers feel relaxed, (2) enhancement of the customer relationship, (3) the treatment space considers personal privacy, and (4) the positive service attitude of the beauticians. Conclusions - We analyze all the key factors and offer some suggestions as a conclusion.
The market of Internet-based fashion/coordination shopping malls have been growing rapidly year by year. In accordance with this growth, Internet fashion shopping malls are also making a lot of efforts to increase their revenue by displaying new fashion products on a high spot or by having professional models wear them to make them more attractive to the customers. If online shopping malls have the functionality of automatically calculating the matching degree of lower and upper clothes, it could play a role of off-line shop assistants and provide a more convenient way of purchasing fashion products for customers. In this paper, we present a learning system adopting the content-based filtering method for online shopping malls, which automatically calculates the matching degree of lower and upper clothes and recommends the most well-matched pair.

A concession business at Incheon Int'l airport has achieved a huge success since its grand opening of 2001. However the duty-free market became matured due to downtown duty free stores and on-line stores. Thus this paper tried to research and suggest strategic planning of VMD at Incheon airport's duty-free after analyzing the relationship among the components of duty-free store's VMD, brand awareness, brand image and customer's loyalty. Components of VMD are constructed in harmony, attractiveness, trendiness and Trust, which are independent variables. In addition, brand awareness and brand image are chosen as control variables. Customer loyalty is also designated as a dependant variable. Focusing those variables, this paper tried to find out the effect of VMD components to brand and consumer loyalty. According to the research result, it is proven attractiveness and harmony have a significant positive impact on brand awareness and brand image. It is also found out brand awareness and image have a positive impact on passenger's loyalty on duty-free stores at Incheon airport.

Semiconductor manufacturing has been emerged as a highly competitive but profitable business. Accordingly it becomes very important for semiconductor manufacturing companies to meet customer demands at the right time, in order to keep the leading edge in the world market. However, due-date oriented production is very difficult task because of the complex job flows with highly resource conflicts in fabrication shop called FAB. Due to its cyclic manufacturing feature of products, to be completed, a semiconductor product is processed repeatedly as many times as the number of the product manufacturing cycles in FAB, and FAB processes of individual manufacturing cycles are composed with similar but not identical unit processes. In this paper, we propose a production scheduling and control scheme that is designed specifically for semiconductor scheduling environment (FAB). The proposed scheme consists of three modules: simulation module, cycle due-date estimation module, and dispatching module. The fundamental idea of the scheduler is to introduce the due-date for each cycle of job, with which the complex job flows in FAB can be controlled through a simple scheduling rule such as the minimum slack rule, such that the customer due-dates are maximally satisfied. Through detailed simulation, the performance of a cycle due-date based scheduler has been verified.
In recent, there has been a great change in the shopping market due to the development of the Internet and the generalization of mobile devices. Customers have become more comfortable with online shopping where they can purchase clothes without having to visit their own shop directly. While online shopping is convenient and easy to buy, it is difficult to judge whether it is suitable for you to buy clothes. This paper proposes an application that users virtually coordinate on their own full-body photo or a user-specified model. The proposed application encourages smart purchases by enabling users to see their virtual coordination on their bodies.
Association rule mining techniques enable us to acquire knowledge concerning sales patterns among individual items from voluminous transactional data. Certainly, one of the major purposes of association rule mining is utilizing the acquired knowledge to provide marketing strategies such as catalogue design, cross-selling and shop allocation. However, this requires too much time and high cost to only extract the actionable and profitable knowledge from tremendous numbers of discovered patterns. In currently available literature, a number of interest measures have been devised to accelerate and systematize the process of pattern evaluation. Unfortunately, most of such measures, including support and confidence, are prone to yielding impractical results because they are calculated only from the sales frequencies of items. For instance, traditional measures cannot differentiate between the purchases in a small basket and those in a large shopping cart. Therefore, some adjustment should be made to the size of market baskets because there is a strong possibility that mutually irrelevant items could appear together in a large shopping cart. Contrary to the previous approaches, we attempted to consider market basket's size in calculating interest measures. Because the devised measure assigns different weights to individual purchases according to their basket sizes, we expect that the measure can minimize distortion of results caused by accidental patterns. Additionally, we performed intensive computer simulations under various environments, and we performed real case analyses to analyze the correctness and consistency of the devised measure.
Ⅰ. Introduction Retailers in the 21st century are being told that future retailers are those who can execute seamless multi-channel access. The reason is that retailers should be where shoppers want them, when they want them anytime, anywhere and in multiple formats. Multi-channel access is considered one of the top 10 trends of all business in the next decade (Patricia T. Warrington, et al., 2007) And most firms use both direct and indirect channels in their markets. Given this trend, we need to evaluate a channel equity more systematically than before as this issue is expected to get more attention to consumers as well as to brand managers. Consumers are becoming very much confused concerning the choice of place where they shop for durable goods as there are at least 6-7 retail options. On the other hand, manufacturers have to deal with category killers, their dealers network, Internet shopping malls, and other avenue of distribution channels and they hope their retail channel behave like extensions of their own companies. They would like their products to be foremost in the retailer's mind-the first to be proposed and effectively communicated to potential customers. To enable this hope to come reality, they should know each channel's advantages and disadvantages from consumer perspectives. In addition, customer satisfaction is the key determinant of retail customer loyalty. However, there are only a few researches regarding the effects of shopping satisfaction and perceptions on consumers' channel choices and channels. The purpose of this study was to assess Korean consumers' channel choice and satisfaction towards channels they prefer to use in the case of electronic goods shopping. Korean electronic goods retail market is one of good example of multi-channel shopping environments. As the Korea retail market has been undergoing significant structural changes since it had opened to global retailers in 1996, new formats such as hypermarkets, Internet shopping malls and category killers have arrived for the last decade. Korean electronic goods shoppers have seven major channels : (1)category killers (2) hypermarket (3) manufacturer dealer shop (4) Internet shopping malls (5) department store (6) TV home-shopping (7) speciality shopping arcade. Korean retail sector has been modernized with amazing speed for the last decade. Overall summary of major retail channels is as follows: Hypermarket has been number 1 retailer type in sales volume from 2003 ; non-store retailing has been number 2 from 2007 ; department store is now number 3 ; small scale category killers are growing rapidly in the area of electronics and office products in particular. We try to evaluate each channel's equity using a consumer survey. The survey was done by telephone interview with 1000 housewife who lives nationwide. Sampling was done according to 2005 national census and average interview time was 10 to 15 minutes. Ⅱ. Research Summary We have found that seven major retail channels compete with each other within Korean consumers' minds in terms of price and service. Each channel seem to have its unique selling points. Department stores were perceived as the best electronic goods shopping destinations due to after service. Internet shopping malls were perceived as the convenient channel owing to price checking. Category killers and hypermarkets were more attractive in both price merits and location conveniences. On the other hand, manufacturers dealer networks were pulling customers mainly by location and after service. Category killers and hypermarkets were most beloved retail channel for Korean consumers. However category killers compete mainly with department stores and shopping arcades while hypermarkets tend to compete with Internet and TV home shopping channels. Regarding channel satisfaction, the top 3 channels were service-driven retailers: department stores (4.27); dealer shop (4.21); and Internet shopping malls (4.21). Speciality shopping arcade(3.98) were the least satisfied channels among Korean consumers. Ⅲ. Implications We try to identify the whole picture of multi-channel retail shopping environments and its implications in the context of Korean electronic goods. From manufacturers' perspectives, multi-channel may cause channel conflicts. Furthermore, inter-channel competition draws much more attention as hypermarkets and category killers have grown rapidly in recent years. At the same time, from consumers' perspectives, 'buy where' is becoming an important buying decision as it would decide the level of shopping satisfaction. We need to develop the concept of 'channel equity' to manage multi-channel distribution effectively. Firms should measure and monitor their prime channel equity in regular basis to maximize their channel potentials. Prototype channel equity positioning map has been developed as follows. We expect more studies to develop the concept of 'channel equity' in the future.
This study aims to investigate the characteristics of Chinese consumers, who are growing up as the global biggest consumption market, according to G sensibility types, and to provide the data base for China market by analyzing the consuming pattern per sensibility and the preferred color. For the investigation, the survey on G sensibility and consuming pattern was conducted for consumers in four cities of China. As a result of classification of G sensibility types, it was found that Chinese consumers tended to behave in accordance with their values and identities and the most general type in them was G1 pursuing the reasonable and logical consumption, unlike Korean consumers who tended to be shown as G3 for the most general type according to the preceding study. As to characteristic of consumption, Chinese consumers preferred to purchase clothes from the department store, and in case of G2 type, the characteristics was corresponded with Actionist's character which shows the wide range of behavior and high-consumption, by preferring the road-shop next to the department store. Chinese consumers tended to purchase the clothes on the basis of their preferred colors, and especially it was shown that achromatic color was very commonly preferred. Also the black color was on the highest preference, and white, dark gray and light gray were followed. Meanwhile, in chromatic color, it was found that brown, orange, red and blue were preferred in order, and in case of G4, it was found that they preferred more various colors compared to the other types. This result could be used as the data base for the marketing strategy of fashion design industry and the related companies, as well as the new communication method for the consumers.
