Two-Parameter Characterization for the Resistance Curves of Ductile Crack Growth (연선균열성장 저항곡선에 대한 2매개변수의 특성)

  • The present paper considers the constraint effect on J-R curves under the two-parameter $J-A_2$ controlled crack growth within a certain amount of crack extension. Since the parameter $A_2$ in $J-A_2$ three-term solution is independent of applied loading under fully plasticity or large-scale defor-mation $A_2$ is a proper constraint parameter uring crack extension. Both J and $A_2$ are used to char-acterize the resistance curves of ductile crack growth using J as the loading level and $A_2$ are used to char-acterize the resistance curves of ductile crack growth using J as the loading level and A2 as a con-straint parameter. Approach of the constraint-corrected J-R curve is proposed and a procedure of transferring the J-R curves determined from standard ASTM procedure to non-standard speci-mens or real cracked structures is outlined. The test data(e.g. initiation toughness JIC and tearing modulus $T_R$) of Joyce and Link(Engineer-ing Fracture Mechanics 1997, 57(4) : 431-446) for single-edge notched bend[SENB] specimen with from shallow to deep cracks is employed to demonstrate the efficiency of the present approach. The variation of $J_{IC}$ and $T_R$ with the constraint parameter $A_2$ is obtained and a con-straint-corrected J-R curves is constructed for the test material of HY80 steel. Comparisons show that the predicted J-R curves can very well match with the experimental data for both deep and shallow cracked specimens over a reasonably large amount of crack extension. Finally the present constraint-corrected J-R curve is used to predict the crack growth resistance curves for different fracture specimens. over a reasonably large amount of crack extension.   • Successful design, construction and maintenance of geotechnical structure in soft ground and marine clay demands prediction, control, stability estimation and monitoring of settlement with high accuracy. It is important to predict and to estimate the compression index of soil for predicting of ground settlement. Lab. and field tests have been and are indispensable tools to achieve this goal. In this paper, Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) model with Levenberg-Marquardt Algorithm and field database were used to predict compression index of soil in Korea. Based on soil property database obtained from more than 1800 consolidation tests from soils samples, the ANNs model were proposed in this study to estimate the compression index, using multiple soil properties. The compression index from the proposed ANN models including multiple soil parameters were then compared with those from the existing empirical equations.

  • Free and forced vibration analysis of the global ship structure using the 3-dimensional finite element(FE) method requires not only the specialized knowledge such as ship structure interacted with fluid, damping and various excitations due to propulsion system but also time-consuming manual tasks in FE modeling, analysis and response evaluation. As a result, the quality of the vibration analysis highly depends on engineer's expertise and experience. In this study, a framework system to improve the efficiency of global ship vibration analysis is introduced. The system promising the utilization of MSC/Patran and MSC/Nastran consists of various modules to support data management, FE modeling of ship structure and loading, input deck generation for free and forced vibration analysis, data extraction and evaluation of analysis results, and databases for FE models of marine diesel engines and vibration criteria. The system may be useful for pursuing standardization of uncertain analysis factors as well as reducing time, cost and human dependency in ship vibration analysis.

  • 경제성장에 따른 항만구조물의 건설 및 유지관리에 관한 관심이 급격히 고조되고 있다. 이러한 항만구조물은 해양환경에 노출되어 콘크리트에 매입된 철근의 부식을 야기시키는 요인에 접해있다. 한편, 콘크리트 내부의 염분침투는 매입철근의 부식을 가속화시켜 콘크리트 구조물의 내구성에 상당히 큰 피해를 입힐 수 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 여러 가지 방식제를 사용함과 동시에 물/시멘트을 달리한 실험변수를 이용한 시험체에 대한 부식평가 및 매입철근의 적절한 부식방지 기법의 개발에 있다. 해양환경 조건을 simulation한 해수 및 담수 순환장치를 이용한 실내 시험체의 철근 부시도 평가 및 항만현장에 직접 거치된 시험체 등 다양한 조건하의 2년간의 실험이 현재 진행 중에 있다. 40주에 걸쳐 간헐 침투되는 해수조건에서 60개의 콘크리트 시험체의 철근 부시도 평가결과를 기초하여 180여개의 콘크리트 시험체를 새로이 제작하여 Half-Cell Test를 통한 Instant-Off Potential, Current Method를 통한 Corrosion current, Chloride Content 및 시험 종료후 시험체를 파쇄하여 부식된 철근의 무게측정등을 통하여 거동 및 부식을 예측.평가하고 이를 통한 부식방지기법을 개발하고자 한다.

  • The primary objective of this study is to firstly survey and analyze the working environment and actual condition, secondly know their problems, and then provide the basic data about how to improve their working conditions. The specific study items for getting the goal above is as follows: 1. How does the industrial company connect with highschool vocational education well? 2. How does the mechanical technical highschool graduate apply with industrial field? The result of study is as follows: 1. In case of employment's information and the industrial educationed cooperation, the workers who has the working history in less than 5 years takes short to find the job. National high school graduates and those who get the job through the school and the teacher changed their job at short period compared to other. 2. There was no benefit about the same major's worker at industrial field. The workers admitted that there is the exemption fo military service and the certification's allowance, only for which is related to their job. The longer the workers stay their job, the more they had the chance to get the exemption of military service. National highschool were carried out the curriculum well as planed especially for their major subjects. Whereas, the public and private highschools weren't. The seniors of their job and the coworkers are very helpful for learning the actual knowledge. The workers said that the school's curriculum and club activity weren't effective applying with their working field. 3. The study says that the important things of their job is the knowledge of their major. Those who 80% answered that the worker must improve the knowledge of their major to be a good engineer. Learning from their senior in working field was very helpful. The question above was ranked as the first. 4. The answer says that the new changed job's pay is more than the previous job. That is, the reason of leaving the job is the pay gap. The most dissatisfaction and problems in present job was the environment of working and the working condition. 5. Regarding to asking next year's plan, the answer says that keeping the job was ranked as the first. That answer means that they conservative.

A Study on Improving the Efficiency of the Survival Rate for the Offshore Accommodation Barge Resident Using Fire Dynamic Simulation (화재시뮬레이션을 이용한 해양플랜트 전용생활부선 거주자의 생존율 향상에 대한 연구)

  • The offshore plant crews that were commissioned in the commercial startup phase boarded the offshore plant in two shifts until the end of the project. The crews who were hired by the owner side stayed in the original offshore plant during the project. However, most of the offshore plant commissioned members who were dispatched from the shipyard were accommodated in the offshore accommodation barge. For this reason, they were exposed to many accidents since there are a lot of people staying in a small space. This study suggested a method for improving survival rate at offshore accommodation barge in terms of life safety. It is assumed that the fire accident among unfortunate events which take place in the offshore accommodation barge mainly occurred. So, this study analyzed the safety evacuation for offshore plant employees using fire simulation model based on both domestic and international law criteria. In particular, When fire occurs in the offshore accommodation barge, the periodically well trained crews are followed safety evacuation procedure. whereas many employees who have different background such as various occupations, cultural differences, races and nationality can be commissioned with improper evacuation behaviors. As a result, the risk will be greater than normal situation due to these inappropriate behaviors. Therefore, This study analyzed the Required Safe Escape Time (RSET) and Available Safe Escape Time (ASET). Also it was suggested the improvement of structure design and additional arrangement of safety equipment to improve the survival rate of the residents in offshore accommodation barge.

  • Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), especially eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) have significantly beneficial effects on health in relation to cardiovascular, immune, and inflammatory conditions and they are involved in determining the biophysical properties of membranes as well as being precursors for signaling molecules. PUFA biosynthesis is catalyzed by sequential desaturation and fatty acyl elongation reactions. This aerobic biosynthetic pathway was thought to be taxonomically conserved, but an alternative anaerobic pathway for the biosynthesis of PUFA is now known to contain analogous polyketide synthases (PKS). Certain fish oil can be a rich source of PUFA although processed marine oil is generally undesirable as food ingredients because of the associated objectionable flavors that are difficult and cost-prohibitive to remove. Oil-seed plants contain only the 18-carbon polyunsaturated fatty acid alpha-linolenic acid, which is not converted in the human body to EPA and DHA. It is now possible to engineer common oilseeds which can produce EPA and DHA and this has been the focus of a number of academic and industrial research groups. Recent advances and future prospects in the production of EPA and DHA in oilseed crops are discussed here.

A Study on the Legal Status of Apprentice Officers on the Merchant ship (위탁승선실습생의 법적지위 -목포해양전문대학생을 중심으로-)

  • Students of the Mogpo Merchant Marine College must complete one year's shipboard training course according to IMO(International Maritime Organization) regulations as an obtaining matter of Certificate of Competency. The purpose of this shipboard training course lies int he student's acquiring practical knowledge and sill as a part of a course of study and, in the future, fostering essential adaptability and leadership, especially in bad circumstances on the sea. The shipboard training course has two kind that the students can be trained either on the training ship or on a merchant ship of the shipping company. In this paper, I only thought over the legal status of apprentice officers on the merchant ship and analyzed the problems practicably during shipboard training. This paper is made up of five chapters. The first chapter contains the purpose contents and method of this study, in the second, the meaning of shipboard practice education and training, in the third, the legal status of apprentice officers on merchant ship, in the fourth, the analysis of the provisions of the seamen act applied to apprentice officers on a merchant ship. And in the last chapter 5, the contents mentioned is summarized and directions are presented to amend the provisions of the seamen act applied to apprentice officers. The conclusions are as follows. 1.In case of shipboard training on overseas employment ship, the seamen act applied to the manning agent employing the apprentice officers should be reinforced. 2. The provisions of disembarkation in mid course by discipline of the seamen acts Article 24 should be relaxed. And the provisions in relations to seamen's duty to be a reason of discipline applied to apprentice officer among the provisions for ship's public order maintenance should be abolished. 3. The provision of repartriation completely should be applied to apprentice officers and the provisions of a journey expenditure during their embarkation or disembarkation have to be established. 4. The apprentice officers in shipboard training also need securing a basic wages provision to be criterion of an accident compensation. 5. The apprentice officers in shipboard training should not be in charge of third officer's or third engineer' study.

A Study on the Drift Phenomenon of a Ship on the Waterway near the Breakwater of Busan and Gamcheon Port (부산항과 감천항 방파제 인접 항로에서 선체에 작용하는 횡압류 현상에 관한 연구)

  • In order to secure the traffic safety especially in the entrance waterway of harbour, it is important that the breakwater and the port facilities should be designed properly considering ship-handling difficulty and traffic flow. In this study, the lateral force acting on ship hull under the external force(wind, current, wave) is investigated quantitatively for the container ship approaching to the Busan and Gamcheon breakwater. The relation of ship-handling difficulty to the breakwater and the arrangement of ship's routine are examined based on the lateral force under the external force. Some of reviews to secure traffic safety on the design of breakwater are discussed.
