  • Recent Internet Service Environment has been moved to provide geographic information based on location as well as existent various information. In this paper, we develop an integrated software connecting GIS information to Internet. In the other hand, in GIS S/W, it is important that rapid output of Digital Map and effective trnasmission of specified Digital Map about moving area. To achieve the purpose, we propose a reduced digital format to diminish original digital maps. Also, we develop a GIS-based software engine with functions connecting location information to URL as well as map viewer and map handling. Futhermore, our developed GIS S/W is based Module in LBS application using GPS sensor.

  • This thesis researches on the application of computer, modern communication, GIS, GPS, AIS and World-Wide-Web in the field of navigation-aids information system, and has realized an integrated system consisted of navigation-aids information GIS platform, navigation-aids monitoring system and navigation-aids information distribution system. This system has strong integration capability, and has realized navigation-aids information distribution based on WEBGIS at the first time. It strongly promotes navigation-aids daily management and maintenance, and this system provides technique guarantee fur ships and marine departments to acquire navigation-aids information in time, by rule and line expediently.

  • SIMP is an international project funded by INTAS aimed at improving the information content, which can be inferred from multi-sensor satellite imagery of marine coastal areas. Scientific teams from Germany, UK, Portugal, and Russia focus on the development of novel tools for marine remote sensing of the coastal zone. In particular, the project teams' benefit from the fact that surface films may enhance the signatures of hydrodynamic processes such as plumes, internal waves, eddies, etc., on microwave, optical, and infrared imagery. The project's objectives are to develop a robust methodology for identifying slick-related phenomena/processes through their surface signatures and thereby, to improve the discrimination capabilities between slicks and other oceanic and atmospheric phenomena by taking into account information gained from satellite imagery quasi-simultaneously recorded at microwave, visible and IR wavelengths. The results of the two project years are summarized. Examples are given for the project’s web presentation, laboratory and field experiments, and of the analyses of various satellite data.

  • In this paper, usefulness of marine radar for water waves measurement in coastal waters is presented. We installed a marine radar to acquire radar images of water wave around light beacon at Jujeon in Ulsan. Also, a series of analysis procedures for obtaining the wave information from the acquired image is described with a schematic diagram. We compared analysis results of radar images with measurement values using wave height gauge at light beacon. In order to improve accuracy of analysis results, detailed water depth information is essential. In conclusion, in case of the use of radar for water waves measurement, it is shown that it is very necessary to increase the accuracy of measurement by consideration of the water depth in the dispersion relation of water waves.

  • Diatoms are a major component of the biological community, serving as the principal primary producers in the food web and sustaining oxygen levels in aquatic environments. Among marine planktonic diatoms, the cosmopolitan Skeletonema costatum is one of the most abundant and widespread species in the world's oceans. Here, we report the basic characteristics of a new diatom-infecting S. costatum virus (ScosV) isolated from Jaran Bay, Korea, in June 2008. ScosV is a polyhedral virus (45-50 nm in diameter) that propagates in the cytoplasm of host cells and causes lysis of S. costatum cultures. The infectivity of ScosV was determined to be strain- rather than species-specific, similar to other algal viruses. The burst size and latent period were roughly estimated at 90-250 infectious units/cell and <48 h, respectively.

  • Offshore observation of tsunami and storm surge before arriving to the coast is very important fur coastal disaster prevention. But up to ten years ago, coastal tide stations had been supposed to be the only means to observe tsunami and storm surge profile, fir difficulty of offshore observation (Goda.et.al., 2002). Recently seabed installed coastal wave gauges have been repeatedly reported to successfully observe various tsunami profiles by conducting continuous data acquisition (Goda.et.al., 2001 : Nagai, 2002a; Nagai.et.al, 1996, 2000, 2002b).

  • Many international organizations build a global communications network called the GMDSS by close cooperation, and ITU-R, IMO and IEC apply it for the modernization of the international marine radiocommunication system, but a modernization study of the GMDSS to reflect such a technique by the rapidly development of the wireless communication technology recently progresses. Such effort was submitted for adoption with WRC-12 held in 2012. This paper analyzed standardization trends for marine radiocommunication modernization discussed around ITU-R recently and analyzed research activities for frequency allocation for new technical introduction and described it.
