A Case Study on the Analysis of Characteristics of Marine HVAC Duct - For the Development of Maintenance Robot's Movement Algorithm - (선박 공조닥트의 특성분석에 관한 사례 연구 - 유지관리용 로봇의 이동 알고리즘 개발을 위한 분석 -)

  • This study is focused on the analysis of the characteristics of marine HVAC duct. These results will be applied to develope a robot which is for maintaining a cabin comfort, convenience and healthy through HVAC duct. The followings are the results of this study. (1) The evaluated items which proposed by at the view point of robot's function can be adapted to other vessels for the same purpose, (2) For the case of round type duct. the maximized conditions which robot has to have are straight length of 40.152mm, inclination of $45^{\circ}$. horizontal bending of $90^{\circ}$. increasing diameter of 1.28 times, and 0.625 times decreasing diameter in branch. (3) For the case of rectangular type duct. the maximized conditions are straight length of 15.987mm. aspect ratio of 4.17:1, inclination of $18.92^{\circ}$. horizontal bending of $90^{\circ}$, and 0.65 times decreasing diameter in branch.

  • 최근 작업자 숙소 및 이송용 외에 작업용으로 사용 가능한 Barge선의 일종인 Accommodation Work Barge 선의 건조량이 증가 추세인 바 현재 중국에서 건조 중인 해당 선박의 HVAC & Refrigeration system에 대하여 정리하였다. 본 시스템은 R404A Direct expansion 냉각방식 (직접팽창방식)이 적용되었으며 HVAC system 중 Air conditioning 부분에 대해서는 선박의 각 Deck 기준으로 Zoning 하여 개별적인 Air handling unit와 Condensing unit를 구성하였으며 (각 unit의 용량은 필요용량의 100%), 냉동 창고의 Refrigeration system은 해당 격실 (육고, 어고, 야채고)에 각각 Unit cooler를 설치하고, Condensing unit를 기계실에 설치하였다. 장비는 전체 용량 100%에 대하여 항시 운전하는 100% 용량의 장비와 비상시에 운전하는 100% 용량의 예비 장비로 구성된다. 냉동 창고에 인접한 Dry provision store는 냉동 창고와는 별개로 중앙 공조기로부터의 냉각 공기를 이용하여 Spot cooling하였다. 본 System의 구성에 대한 장점 및 단점은 아래와 같다. 1. Air conditioning system이 각 Zone에 대하여 구성되므로 각 Zone에 대하여 제어가 가능하다. 2. Air con. 실에 Air handling unit와 Condensing unit가 설치되므로 냉매 배관의 길이가 짧다. 3. Air con. 실에 Air handling unit와 Condensing unit가 설치되므로 실내의 Maintenance space 상에 여유가 없다.

A Measurement and Evaluation on the Indoor Thermal Conditions in Spring of a New Training ship (신조 운항실습선의 봄철 실내 온열환경 실측평가)

  • The purpose of this study is to measure and analyze the ship's indoor thermal conditions and also to integrate experimental database of those, supplied and controlled by ship's HVAC. On this study, temperature, humidity and air volume of 6 different needs' cabin are measured on a newly-launched training ship during 2nd through 5th of April, 2007. Followings are the results of this study. (1)Because only partial loads are needed in spring season, the air volume from diffusers are measured as below 20%. (2)The temperatures are ranged between $20{\sim}25^{\circ}C$ and those are within comfort temperature range proposed by AHREA. (3)But humidities in cabins are very low and it could be the reason of a cold and/or a skin disease. (4)From the student cabins' measurements which have different supply diffuser(s), it is clear that the design is suitable for this case. (5)Because of low humidity, only 16.1% among the measured data are satisfied with the comfort standard range proposed by ASHREA. To improve the predictability and the comfort, HVAC should maintain the humidity as $40{\sim}60%$.

  • The purpose of this study is to measure and analyze the ship's indoor thermal conditions and also to integrate experimental database of those which are supplied and controlled by marine HVAC. On this study, temperature, humidity and air volume of 6 different needs' cabin are measured like previous report on a newly-launched training ship during 25th through 27th of July, 2007. Followings are the results of this study. (1)The air supply volumes to each cabins are measured 250CMH(Recreation room), 800CMH(Conference room), 1.000CMH(Bridge), 5,100CMH(Lecture room) respectively. (2)The temperatures are maintained at $21{\sim}27^{\circ}C$ in almost cabins through measuring period, but the temperatures are fluctuated over ${\pm}4^{\circ}C$ at the bridge and conference room. (3)The relative humidities are shown between $40{\sim}60%$ known as comfort conditions, but the conference room is needed to dehumidified because of over 70% humidity. (4)From the student cabins' measurements which have different supply diffuser(s), it is clear that the design is suitable for this case. (5)Because of temperature diversities, only 32% among the measured data are satisfied with the comfort standard range proposed by ASHREA.

A Seasonal Indoor Thermal Conditions of a Newly-launched Training Ship

  • The living performances of crews and passengers in cabins have been less received attention, while Korea is a top leading country in ship building industry. To develop a high value added ships like 5-star cruisers, researches on the comfort and productivity in cabins should be carried out with urgent. The purpose of this study is to measure and analyze of the ship's indoor thermal conditions in spring, summer and winter, and also to compare the seasonal differences, of which conditions are supplied from and controlled by marine HVAC The temperature, humidity and air supply volume of 5 different needs of cabins on a training ship were measured through a year, which was launched at Dec. 2005 and totally 246 crews can go on board for education. The following results were obtained: (1)In the spring, the temperature in cabins was measured as $20{\sim}25^{\circ}C$ and humidity was below 30%. (2)In the summer, the temperatures was controlled at $21{\sim}27^{\circ}C$ in almost cabins and humidity was between $40{\sim}60%$ which is known as comfort conditions. (3)In the winter, temperature and humidity was maintained between $19{\sim}26^{\circ}C$, and humidity was between $10{\sim}50%$. (4)It is clear that the humidity conditions in cabins are not properly controlled at all through a year to satisfy the Comfort Standards provided by ASHRAE and/or ISO, In conclusion, humidification and dehumidification of cabins must be treated with importance for more comfort living and working environments for crews and passengers.

  • Energy consumption in buildings is close to 40% of the total national energy consumption in developed countries such as US and Japan, and Korea accounts for 24% of total energy consumption. In buildings, HVAC can't freely control the cooling flow rate according to the required calorie, so energy is not used efficiently. Therefore, by using the energy saving valve, the flow rate can be controlled by the required amount of heat and the energy can be saved. In this paper, we define basic conditions and develop control and monitoring boards for building energy saving valves based on PIC processor with low power and high cost-effectiveness. The designed board displays and transmits in real time information about two temperature values, flow values and calculated calories for temperature difference measurement. The developed board will be useful for real - time monitoring of the state of the valve in the future and development of the valve for the offshore.

  • The purpose of this study is to measure and analyze the indoor thermal conditions in the spring of a korean coastal passenger ship which is 590-passenger Ro-Pax type built at 1997. Especially this study has focussed on the relations between the diffuser open ratio, which can be controlled by 12 steps, and the comfort. Followings are the results of this study. (1) The supply air volume to cabins are maximum 4.3 and 2 times more than design quantity when the diffusers in cabins are open 100% and 50%, respectively. (2) Regardless of diffuser open ratio, the supply air maintains constantly high temperature and below 10% of relative humidity through the experimental days. (3) All the cabins are not satisfied with the ASHRAE comfort criterion at the condition of 100% and 50% of diffuser open ratio, because of high temperature and low relative humidity. (4) At a low diffuser open ratio, number of cabins which satisfy the ASHRAE comfort criterion are increased. (5) Humidifying and dehumidifying, and hvac control system of each cabin must be reviewed and studied at the view of passengers to service more comfort environments.

Computational Analysis on the Noise Characteristics of Ship Large Duct (선박용 대형 덕트의 소음 특성 전산해석 연구)

  • Noise prediction for HVAC(Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning) systems are normally performed by empirical method suggested by NEBB(National Environmental Balancing Bureau, 1994). However, the method is not suitable for large ducts in ships. In this paper, computational analysis methods are used to develop a noise prediction method for the large ducts in ships. To develop regression formula of attenuation of sound pressure level in large ducts, Boundary Element Method(BEM) is used. BEM and Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD) are applied to the analysis of flow-induced noise in ducts with stiffeners inside. Loud noise above 100 dB can be generated in some cases. Breakout noises of large ducts are also analyzed by using BEM and Finite Element Method(FEM). The acoustic pressure level shows about 10-15dB difference between inside and outside of the duct. Utilizing the results of this study, it is expected that shipyard planners can predict noise of the HVAC system for ships.

  • Building energy saving is one of the most important issues in these days. Control algorithm for energy saving should be designed properly to reduce power consumption in building. Recently, building energy system consists of hybrid energy system coupling with RE (Renewable Energy) source. In this paper, an optimum control algorithm for building energy saving is applied to BEMS (Building Energy Management System) by using an outdoor air temperature prediction strategy. BEMS coupling with renewable energy can control HVAC (Heating, Ventilating and Air-Conditioning) system effectively. In order to verify the effectiveness of building energy saving, BEMS was tested for several months at a laboratorial chamber with an air conditioner, fan and heater. To this end BEMS embedded control algorithm has been tested successfully.

A Numerical Analysis of the Pressure Drop according to the Shape of TiO2 Photocatalyst-coated Module in a HVAC Duct (HVAC 덕트 내에 설치된 광촉매코팅 모듈의 형상이 압력강하에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the shape of photocatalyst-coated module for improve the IAQ, which is installed at inside of ductwork and detachable. Including 3 column types(square, circle, diamond) and 2 fin types(diamond and square), totally 5 types are previously declared for numerical analysis and comparison, 5 types are. As the results of numerical analysis, almost the velocity varied at the range of ${\pm}0.3m$ from the module, except the Type A-3(diamond column type) which is affected to ${\pm}0.4m$ range and shows the biggest velocity differences. Among the 5 types, the diamond fin type(Type B-1) is analyzed as the most stable in velocity. And the results of local pressure drop show that the difference of pressure coefficient of Type B-1 is computed as 0.59, and that of Type A-3 is 2.44. Meanwhile, from the effect analysis of the number of module, the flow conflict happens and the pressure difference between before and after the module increases if there are over 3 modules inserted.
